Totally worth it. Remember that it's had ALL the servicing done to it by the dealer.

Just imagine the stacks of records they must have with a car that's been driven about 450 miles a year. ....let's see, for me that would be one round trip to the dealer for an oil change each year + 250 "fun" miles. confused smiley

Bet it was owner by a little old lady who drove it to church at the end of her block once a week.

Re: Boxsters starting to appreciate? Might not be that bad...

Actually, this might not be such a bad purchase for a collector. First year available? Well optioned?

It says, "Only 6500 miles! This is one fo the 1st 200 Boxsters ever built (actually rolled off the line in Zuffenhausen!). Absolutley perfect Glacire White over Nephrite Green Special Leather. This is the nicest example 986 available anywhere. Over $50K new, this Boxster is equipped from the factory with Aluminum Hard Top, Sport Package, Tonneau Cover (only year available), Heated Front Seats, Aluminum Door Sills and Leather front console and 17" Boxster Wheels."

Although I found this line odd, "Please confirm the accuracy of the included equipment by calling us prior to purchase." Not very confidence inspiring.
That car would never sell ...

... in our SoFla market at that price.
Allow $1,500 for the hardtop
Allow $1,500 for the low mileage
That makes it $16,900 for a '97.
It's about $10,000 too high!
But, remember what Mr. Barnum said, although they now say he didn't say it winking smiley
Happy Boxstering,

Pedro, I don't understand your math. You stated that with the hard top and low mileage the price would be $16,900. They are asking $19,900....$3,000 higher, not "$10,000 too high." What am I missing here?
Here's the math...
Pedro (Odessa, FL) - Friday, 24 February, 2012, at 11:36:36 am
Asking ........................... $19,900.00
Hard Top allowance ........ -1,500.00
Low mileage allowance ... -1,500.00
Asking price of 1997 .... $16,900.00
Value of 1997 car ........... $6,900.00
Difference ..................... $10,000.00

In other words, this car, in the SoFla market should be worth:
$6,900.00 + $1,500.00 + $1,500.00 = $9,900.00.
It's $10,000.00 too high.

Happy Boxstering,
Pedro

I'm not sure if it will sell in the local market for that price, despite the mileage.
A 15 year old, low mileage car, with some options, but having an interior color that won't appeal to everyone--then the price.
I'm with Pedro on this one--$10K sounds about right despite mileage.

Well, I sold my '99 for $19K late in '07. I had more than twice the miles and not near this equipment level.
While the asking price here is rather lofty, I don't think $15K would be out of reach on this thing. I still think the early standard Boxsters are really sweet cars. I love my 'S', but there are a few qualities that the first cars had that are missing from the later cars, including the 'S' models.
In tracking the values the last year or so, it doesn't seem as though prices are dropping off as fast as they were. Remember, sales of the new Boxster have been slow for a number of years now, and the market isn't as flooded as it once was. Less cars are available.
At any rate, I think the Boxster/Cayman chassis is Porsche's best. Anyone wishing to snag one of the most enjoyable cars on the planet cannot go wrong by choosing one. And the pre-owned cars that are well taken care of are a bargain.
Agree! *NM*

That's a good price but...

1. it was 4 years ago
2. it was pre-financial meltdown. By 2008 or so, Boxster, Caymans, and other Porsches were sitting on lots, and it seems (for Boxsters and Caymans at least), sales have not fully recovered.

I don't think a '99 would go for any near $19k now. ("Should" is a better word, there may be buyer out there.)
