Advice on Selling a Boxster
Brasco - Saturday, 21 July, 2012, at 1:16:51 pm
Hello I'm thinking of Selling my 98 Boxster 73000 miles. I'm worried about SELLERS remorse.
Do you think selling at $12,500.00 is a good deal from a Sellers perspective? Or is it too LOW?
Appreciate your comments!! Thanks

... $12,500 that's a great price!
Those cars are selling for about $8,000 in our market.
I know, I have one and do PPIs every week.
Happy Boxstering,
Pedro

Thank you so much Pedro. My first good advice came from yourself on my car's first day.
I trust its the same great advice on its last day!!!

Don't know where you are at but 12.5K may be optimistic

There is a 98 Tip with just under 100K miles for sale by owner in our town for $9K and he's not getting much action. The car has been for sale for about three weeks and I've seen it in person. The car looks fine, not perfect but certainly looks like it's been cared for. I'm not in the market so I haven't called on the car.

Last fall I sold a white 98 manual car for $8,200 that had 117K miles but ran great and had new tires/brakes and up to date maintenance.

Best of luck with your sale.

Last March bought my MY2000 base model Boxster with 81K miles, all receipts since new, incredible condition (recent IMS/RMS, serpentine belt, starter, alternator, rear suspension arms, brakes, rear tires, lots of stuff done) for $7900 needing only a clutch, This was a California car in a very nice color... I think your asking price is definitely high.

BTW - my car was listed on this site only.

$12,500 is too high. My advice to you is set your asking price on market conditions (i.e. what other similar Boxsters are selling for), NOT what you paid for it.
I checked. It isn't a crazy asking price.

Out of curiosity, I looked on cars.com for all 1998 boxsters for sale. They had 31 listed. A few didn't have asking prices or mileage shown. Of the remainder, the average asking price was $12,275. There were 6 cars with around 70k-80k miles. For those, the asking prices were spread around almost evenly between 9k and 14k.

Thank you all, for your comments and advice, Just to clarify, it's not that I'm looking to sell for 12,500, but rather I feel i sold for too little at 12,500.
The car is sold, and I was having seller's remorse that I sold too low. But judging by your comments, I'm now feeling that I got a pretty good deal.

Thanks

Steve - there is a marked difference between "Asking" price and selling prices, never let one confuse you with the other. The other factor is that many or most of those would be "dealer" prices which are very much artificially inflated hoping a sucker pays it. If you want actual selling prices go to eBay and look at completed or "sold" prices and that will give you a realistic value. What some asks for something has little or no relation to what they get.

When deciding what a car might be worth going to Autotrader or Cars.com then search similar cars but only "for sale by owner" would give a better understanding of what to ask as an owner but still doesn't give you any information as to waht they might have sold for.
