Engine transplant seems to be going well
JackintheBoxster - Saturday, 6 October, 2012, at 6:01:56 pm
For those following my saga, my engine transplant seems to be going well (80K engine into a 2001 base, engined died at 129K because of shattered shaft connected to one of the valves, I think, not the IMS). Misfires have cleared up, CEL code cleared now that O2 unit has been replaced, along with some plugs. Some vibration indicates the tires need to be rebalanced. Am driving it now to clear out the system in preparation for inspection. Need to clear the rear window and replace a fuse affecting the radio, but these are minor points.

With the above caveats, the car drives like a dream at the moment. If the economy does not get better for me, I'll keep the car or, if the repairs don't last, let it go in good conscience. If I fall into a pot of money, at some point I'll probably trade it for a newer Boxster or, depending on the size of the pot, a 911 -- a convertible in what I always think of as '80s drug lord red or arms dealer black.
