NBC...wiperless windshield tech

From Verge...Wiperless windshield tech

Wonder how long before we will see something similar on a Porsche...
I saw a prototype...

... not in a McLaren, BTW.
It was being tested in a VW Golf.
With average raindrops it worked fine.
With bugs it worked great.
With heavy downpour it was worse!

Car manufacturers, in order to comply with the new CAFE Standards are doing away with anything that creates drag such as sideview mirrors, windshield wipers, etc.
Porsche has stated that the sideview mirrors alone on a Panamera are responsible for a loss of 0.75 mpg.

We'll all soon be getting ultrasounded, among other things!
Happy Porscheing,
Pedro

Racecar spelled backwards is Racecar

"Racing is life. Anything before or after is just waiting" ... Steve McQueen as Michael Delaney in "LeMans"

"If you wait, all that happens is that you get older"... Mario Andretti

"Being second is to be the first of the ones who lose" ... Ayrton Senna

If they really got that to work, I'd be willing to purchase it as an option, even if it mean doing without PDK.

I can see road spray in light rain and freezing rain as being a real challenge.

It would do away with wipers, wiper motor, washer fluid reservoir, washer jets and pump and electric drain from the washer jet heaters.

"A mile of highway will take you one mile. A mile of runway will take you anywhere."
Minus 40 degrees... Is that Fahrenheit or Celsius?
