I happened to see this one-hour retro/comparison drive. Surprisingly good - two drivers (from "everyday cars", which appears to be mysterious on the 'net) drive one each of the 8 generations on the same mountain roads, giving their impression and making comparisons. Much more than a fluff piece - the sad result is, after watching, I want one of each (mostly).

Now off to France....

The long haired guy really liked the 996 and insisted that the G50 trans. was the only was to go on the Carrera models (obvious conclusion). No mention of the known IMS issues though.
I thought some carrera models had the earlier tranny...

I especially liked the barb that traditionalists don't like it because it shares parts with a "lesser" Porsche model, the Boxster! I thought the best sounding car was the white 996 done up like an early euro only GT3. It must have had straight pipes on, sounded sweet.

flew in a day early for meetings, caught the TGV to LeMans, walked much of the track, saw the musee,
and spent hours in the AMAZING midevil old town - vastly more authentic than most.

This time I think i'll be confined to Nice.
