Hmm, my photo links didn't work as planned - little help? Nevermind, fixed it.by nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum
Trip Update - Success! Thanks to everyone for the good advice on routes. We didn't hit them all but did a lot of driving and made great memories. A really good father/son experience. We took off from Michigan in separate cars so we could each have our own driving fun. Unfortunately, just as we were leaving Knoxville and headed to the foothills, my son's Mustang GT 350 broke a transmission andby nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum
Thanks everyone. We've got lodging secured and a bunch of possible routes identified. Staying near Lake Santeetlah and driving as far west as Waynesville. Thanks JG for your local knowledge, we picked many of your suggestions. Probably won't make it as far east as Little Switzerland, but there seems to be plenty of fun opportunities. We are allowing 3 days in the mountains plus 4 days down aby nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum
Thanks, Gary. I like the one too. I'm starting to realize it will be hard to hit it all. The BRP seems to vary in road condition quality just from a few "street view" checks. Are there any sections to avoid? Also, what lodging spots would you recommend between Little Switzerland and, say Robbinsville?by nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum
Thanks for the tips. Lot's of choices to make.by nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum
Thanks, Carlos. There are a couple new routes here that I hadn't found via google yet. Do you have any experience actually driving these? Just wondering about real world experience with the roads and venues. Thanks again.by nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum
Hi all, My son and I are looking into a father-son road trip to the Blue Ridge region from Michigan. Life is short and we want to make some memories. I will be driving my Boxster RS60 and he will be driving his Mustang GT350 Shelby (I know what your thinking, but it's actually a very capable car, even in the twisties). The only BRBS routes I see in the forum are from 2019 but I know the groupby nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum
Thanks for the link - very helpful. I got a notice in the mail from the law firm (not Porsche) so my radar was up. Other Perks Board members might want to check it out. I intentional have not listed the URL, but can if requested. i didn't want to give the impression I am pushing this program, just curious. BTW, I've not contributed to the Board in a long time but am always lurking. Usuallyby nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum
I just got a notice in the mail about a class action lawsuit settlement for certain Porsche owners. Has anybody heard of this or had experience with it? They cite a web site to go to, but I am always leery of such sites that want personal info to register a claim.by nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum
Thank you, Pedro. I could feel the hard cable inside and I assumed they were not hoses but I didn't know how else to describe them. There is some wear where they touch that sensor bracket but not too deep. I will consider my spring service complete, close the engine bay and get her back on the road. Winters are tough but it's like getting a new car every spring!by nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum
Hello all. Long time, no post. I have still remained a long time lurker. During my spring time prep I noticed some chaffing on these two hoses (cables). I have no idea what these are and none of my manuals reference them. Can you help identify their purpose? The chaffing is in several places where the make contact with metal brackets and such. I need help getting pics to post, but this liby nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum
Audi club HDPE events specifically preclude Boxsters and any convertable without a role cage. I would love to participate in their events so if we find a decent aurgument I would like to get it to them for a decision.by nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum
Yup, Pedro nailed it. I just did the same repair on my RS60 this winter during hibernation. You need to put the top in "service position", then remove a couple velcro straps that anchor the top liner to allow better access. The elastir strap is anchored to the top frame with a small torx screw. The strap has button holes in it so you can try tightening the strap to the next button hole. We had snow here today again. I am sooo ready! It's been a tough winter in northern Michigan,by nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum
OK, finally remembered how to post pictures. Love showing it off anyway. Purchased new in 2009 like BobTesa said - sitting on a dealer lot with no takers. First boxster was a 2001 986 triple black.by nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum
Ditto again, #1088 with red leather interior and black top. Did my first DE with it this fall and WOW! This car continues to impress.by nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum
Thanks all. I'll keep looking for the smaller square bits.by nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum
I've had intermittent "depress clutch" warnings and fail to start problems, so I am replacing the clutch switch (the grey one, not the red cruise control one) on my 2008 987. There is only one screw holding it in place, but the screw head faces towards the side of the footwell and you can't directly see it. I put my iphone camera up there and it looks like a small square type screw head. It'sby nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum
Bob, I've always used just a damp microfiber cloth to clean. Then condition with McGuires leather conditioner. I used to use Lexol, but actually prefer the McGuires for eas of use, etc.by nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum
Great idea, and I had already done that. It has really helped to visualize the turns and get familiar with the laps. You have to be careful though, and pay attention to the type of car. Some are smooth as silk, and others are squalking the tires at every turn. Think I'll go for smooth as silk, with an occasional squalk!by nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum
Thanks everyone. All good advice. In addition to the two day DE, I am also doing my first autocross prior to the track time. Looks like I'm fine on pads, I still have way more thickness than the backing plate (only 17,000 street miles). I have routinely flushed brake fluid every 2 years and had it flushed today using the higher boiling point fluid. Also had new PS2's put on the rear today (yby nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum
Finally decided to do a DE thru my regional PCA. Need newbie advice. Lot's of questions, but a few are: Tech inspection requires 50% brake pad thickness. 50% of what? I can't find OEM thickness anywhere? Tire pressure - what works best on a stock setup (PS2's) Any different for Autocross setup? (trying that before the track days) Helmets - need to buy one. Open face vs. full. I don'tby nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum

I've been driving Boxsters for about 10 years now, but only recently joined PCA. My local region is located a couple of hours from me, and while they are active, most events are just too far. Turns out the National Porsche Parade by PCA (a week long convention) is literally right in my back yard this year - 10 minutes from my house. I didn't sign up for anything because I don't know much abby nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum
I had a great improvement just installing new dash speakers in my previous 01. The OEM amp powered them just fine. I didn't do the head unit because I wasn't looking for all the connectivity you are. Be aware that to replace the dash speakers requires some modification/fabrication to the speaker mounting bracket. I have some old pics I can dig out if you need guidance, but there are other souby nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum

I've had Conti's, Bridgstone, and Michielin PS2's on my boxsters. Prefer the PS2. Road experience only, but the feel and confidence has always been good. I found the Conti's got noisy quickly with age. The Bridgstones gripped well, but tended to flat spot easily when cold. Good luck! There's no better feeling than a new pair of shoes!by nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum
I switched to Apple for home use a year ago after being a PC since the 80's. I like the platform a lot but have been disappointed that Quicken doesn't really support Apple OS anymore. Any advice from you Apple boarders about what personal finance software you recommend? PS. Sorry to burst the bubble of the 19 haters but I think they meet the highest criteria of form and function. They look awesome how they fill the wheel well and the ride with PASM is on par with 18's. The notion that they ride harsher I don't find to be true. They are more expensive than the 17's or 18's - no argument there. I've pounded the pavement on long trips and found very little not tooby nmanitou (Doug in MI) - Main Forum
