Ollie, In high school or college we had a 6 ft slide rule. Didn't need batteries either. Do you have a nice leather case for yours? Edby Ed B - Main Forum
Electrons are elusive. Our FD Freightliner Tanker truck will sound its brakes low air alarm when the portable radios are keyed. Disconcerting until you know what is happening. The radios have also opened the the fire house doors occasionally. Ed B in warm (25F) and sunny NHby Ed B - Main Forum
Lots of wind and drifts. Chill factor was between -30 and -40F depending on the wind gusts. Snow is a good insulator so the house will stay warmer. Drivers were pretty good yesterday. Very few incidents. While I was plowing my driveway, a large GMC SUV came over the hill way too fast, spun and put it in the ditch. Four wheel drive just lets you get further off the road before you get stuck. Curby Ed B - Main Forum
Ollie had a similar problem this summer with his early Boxster on engine #2. I hooked up the PST 2 and cycled the cam actuator a few times. It's been running fine since. A PST 2 can cycle many components. I'm still learning how to use it. Ed Bby Ed B - Main Forum
Is the play more axial or radial? Some rear axles have a clip in the diff housing to limit axial movement. They have been known to break. Limited slip OK? Worn clutches might contribute to axial play. Is there an axle nut or is the flange part of the axle? (Loose axle nut/worn splines) Garage is finished. No more shoveling the roof! Spring is a long time coming. Think snow! Edby Ed B - Main Forum

A little play in the bearing may be OK on that type of axle. Any lube leaking in the area? A bad wheel bearing will be noisy and if bad enough, leak axle lube. If the Wrangler has hub centric wheels, perhaps it didn't seat firmly the last time it was off. After running a while it became fully seated leaving the lug nuts loose. (Or maybe you forgot to tighten them) Edby Ed B - Main Forum
I replied to the IMS problem on PPBB so I'll only make a few points here. The bearing is a Class 1 out of 9, with 9 being the highest standard precision. Motor oils do not have a high enough viscosity to keep the asperities of the surface finishes from contacting in a Class 1 bearing. The grease used probably has a high viscosity oil., but the grease will be used up. With oil, at higher speeds, aby Ed B - Main Forum
Marc, you're not alone with road trip problems. Over the years...... Broken crank in Porsche powered VW. Drove it 20 miles home. Broken clutch cable on a S90 in Quebec. Drove it home. Burned hole in a piston in my '67 911S west of Toronto. Pulled plug wire and rocker arms on that cylinder and drove home to NH. Lost a CD box and coil on same car in Colorado. Got another coil and drove home w/oby Ed B - Main Forum
