Still looking for help! We plugged the thumb drive into a Windows 7 machine and it seems to run. Friend suggested that I take the good hard drive from the Toshiba and plug into another more modern machine that has PCMCIA Type III capability. Anyone know of a newer machine that I might try? We are Ok. Only 2.7" of rain and high winds in New London NH. There was one structure fire. Lot of damage but the house looks salvageable. I got home from the fire about 11:30 pm. We had lost our power at 7pm and it's still out.. Got the generator going about an hour ago. It's warm, 55 degrees plus, so no heat issues. We are fortunate. Ed Bby Ed B - Main Forum
Several companies offer kits. I made my own from aluminum mesh I bought a my local hardware store. I left it unpainted to match my silver Boxster. Ed Bby Ed B - Main Forum
I've lost Fred's phone number. Do you have it? Ed Bby Ed B - Main Forum
My IT friend determined that the hard drive on the Toshiba Sat Pro 480 is OK and the failure is probably the power supply or the mother board. He managed to download the data to a thumb drive and we looked at some of it. The operating system seems to be Windows 3.1 or maybe DOS. His suggestion was to find a working Toshiba 480 and swap hard drives or find a laptop with Windows 3.1 and download thby Ed B - Main Forum
Just had clear film installed on the bumper cover, half hood, fenders and mirrors of the GT3 by Protection Plus in Shrewsbury Mass. Not inexpensive but cheaper than a repaint. Great professional installation. Dave said if I get a wind whistle from the film on the mirrors remove it. Not a problem with the great engine and transmission sounds of a GT3. There were pictures of a GT3 RS being entirelby Ed B - Main Forum
Mark, I tried the Norton Ghost procedure. No luck, maybe because Windows isn't my native language. I got the following messages. "This image has been created with one of the IA, -ID, or -IR switches Ghost Explorer cannot view the partition contents" Other info: File system CDFS. On the D drive, D:\PST2.GHO, I got FAT 16, Dos extended, FAT16 extended, and unknown. Can you or anyone else helpby Ed B - Main Forum
Thanks. I'll try it. Ed Bby Ed B - Main Forum
Hi all, The latest news. The IT tech at my former employer will look at the Toshiba and tell me what's wrong. I installed the copy of the PST2 software I have on my HP running Windows XP. The PST2 software is .GHO file. Anyone know how to open it? Web was no help. Ed Bby Ed B - Main Forum
Damon, Do you know where this battery is located? Edby Ed B - Main Forum
Eric, Interesting. May have to find a good hacker. I was talking to Peter Smith, (Porsche Technician and PCA Technical Committee Chairman) at the Parade and the dealership he is at still uses the PIWIS connected to Porsche Germany. I have not been getting updates and I don't remember what version software but it worked on my '04 GT3 last month. Even if the software is dead I would still expect tby Ed B - Main Forum
If I recall the Toshiba laptop was running Windows 95 or 98 when it died. The original PST2 probably ran 3.1. Edby Ed B - Main Forum
Mike, Under Diagnosis Card in the manual : "The PC card (PCMCIA Type III) is a special development" It goes on to describe what it does. The Diagnosis Card Porsche p/n is 000 721 958 83. Bosch p/n 0 684 400 401. Edby Ed B - Main Forum
Damon, Thanks for your response. I bought the unit legally and it wasn't cheap. The battery had not gone dead and the "on" light is lit. The battery charge light and function light also work. I don't know if the copy of the software is any good and as you probably know, it is coded to a dealer. I do have a manual for the PST2 and a sheet showing IBM Thinkpad functions. It has the Porsche and Bosby Ed B - Main Forum
I hope someone here can help. The last time I used it, everything was fine. I turned it on the other day and the screen was dark. Yes, the battery is charged and OK. The computer is a Toshiba Satellite Pro 480CDT. I took it to my local Toshiba repair shop and they wouldn't look at it. "Too old". "Can't get parts". Haven't contacted Toshiba directly, yet. I do have a copy of the software,(I hope)by Ed B - Main Forum
Bought a really nice set of 1.5" headers some time ago for my '00 S and am just getting around to installing. They eliminate the pre-cats. What to do? Car must pass state inspection. Ed Bby Ed B - Main Forum
Fortunately, we were only an hour from Tire Rack in South Bend. Could have been worse. Chuck's Repair and Towing in Sturgis was great. tdby Ed B - Main Forum
Made it back to NH on schedule yesterday. Wednesday was a very long day. Tire failure was due to lack of rubber on the cords. Right rear was down to the crds, too. Wouldn't have stared the trip if I knew they were that thin. I did check them. Couldn't have have been the "average speeds". Edby Ed B - Main Forum
Hi ALl, We ate on our way back from the Parade in the GT3. Lots of Boxsters, Some new and some old and Pedro'S Board members. lots of chances to exersise the car. Western drivers are good, mostly , about keeping right. From eastern Iowa, not so good. Watch out for drivers just west of Chicago. We were run off th road three times, one 20 wheel belly dump and two cars. I guess Speed Yellow isn'tby Ed B - Main Forum
Be sure you remove the key from the ignition switch. You won't get the warning light if yo remove the key. Ed Bby Ed B - Main Forum
Pedro, We have been giving you a chance to rest. I'll be ordering a Techno Power kit. I've been busy on other projects. Might not be until late July since we are going to the Parade. Ed Bby Ed B - Main Forum
Marc, The BMW cycle worked. Hard to drive the GT3 that slow though. I try to avoid Az in the summer. But it's a dry heat. Looks like we will be taking the GT3 instead of the 944 turbo to the Porsche Parade in SLC in a couple of weeks. Its got much better A/C. Thanks again, Ed Bby Ed B - Main Forum
I searched Rennlist and found a BMW driving cycle that will complete readiness monitors on 993's. Since the GT3 uses an earlier version ECU than the Boxster, it might work. I'll try it. Ed Bby Ed B - Main Forum
There didn't appear to be any interference with the fuel lines but I may have fixed it by taking the sender out. I then filled it through the normal filler with no problems. Gauge reads full. There is a 996 service bulletin to add some tie wraps to the fuel hoses. Next time! Thanks all, Ed Bby Ed B - Main Forum
The PST2 said that the gauge reads 13.8 gallons and the sending unit reads 13.8 gallons. I took out the sending unit and it looks like there is 13.8 gallons in the tank. It's not full. I guess the problem is in the fill system. Ed Bby Ed B - Main Forum
The DE event was for two days and included some heavy braking and acceleration. The problem wasn't evident until an hour later when I got home and filled it again on the second day. I'll plug in the PST2 today and see if I can find anything. Edby Ed B - Main Forum
I haven't heard from my Bosch tech yet. Since the car is such a blast to drive, I'll try another drive or two with less Interstate and more stop and go. Thanks, Edby Ed B - Main Forum
Marc, Thanks. I forwarded your information to my Bosch tech. I'm curious to see what he says. Edby Ed B - Main Forum
Marc, Here is some more info. Readiness Monitors: Air System, Catalyst and Evap System are "not ready". All other systems are ready or not supported. It's been rejected by two separate test stations. Besides the PST2 I have a Innova 3110 CANOBD2 scanner. The car is stock and I do run top tier gas from busy stations. I haven't checked, and I will, could there be a fuse involved? I'm sure my Bby Ed B - Main Forum
