thing that can happen? Is the car a utility you'd just replace? Or is this car an object of affection that you'd pay any price to keep forever? You say you'd keep it a long time. Can you afford a $3k expense? A $7k engine swap? How would you feel about the sure $2k expense against a 25% probability of a $7k expense? (That probability is not based on any facts, BTW, just had to pluck one.) Whaby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

permanent jobs these days? I was lucky to be in the right place and prepared when it came to retirement but that meant giving up many job offers along the way and going Porsche-less for 34 years. If I were working now, I'd take the job offers because you can't depend on being lucky enough to be employed through 6 changes of ownership, 5 turns in technology and 37 years as I was. Good luck Marby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

the heat wafted up around the driver and made me snug while everyone around almost crashed from looking at the crazy kid. Kinda like driving in the rain with the top of the Boxster down until you can find a bridge to stop under and raise the top.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
that starts at the floor pan under the seat and extends up to the seat is the issue? Is it the metal support welded to the floor pan that is the issue? Anything get jammed under there? Wreckers may have some exact match for the seat and the mounting. Of course care when assembling because the air bags could go off if there is power to the unit. And there is liability should someone be injuredby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
In a hard to match Arctic Silver and did a superb job. No one ever could tell they weren't painted at the factory. Never seen a complaint on the forums. You have also always been one to share your knowledge on PPBB and here. You deserve to succeed.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
Much sympathy. I know the feeling of being responsible for one less Porsche riding around, my first thought when I crashed mine was "oh no, I pranged a Porsche". I wasn't worried about me, it was the car I felt bad for. To lose two cars with personal history like these at the same time, double tough. I hope you have good insurance. for large units that can be centrally fueled, not cars that run all over the place until an enormous infrastructure is first built out for the units that big rigs on certain routes. Plus the shielding of the tanks becomes an issue the smaller you get. Lots of bus systems have run on natural gas for years. I'm in a county that has potential for fracking. The economics of that have suddenly gone tby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
What bearing was put in? What pre-replacement inspection process was followed to assure there weren't particles before the IMS replacement? Was the "oil pan" removed and inspected? What were the results? What was the expertise of the mechanic who replaced the IMS?by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

Feel free to develop such a thing. Be sure to amortize the costs of lawyers, testing on multiple engine over multiple years, documentation, user support, tool development, etc etc. I figure about a million if done right. And then you have to figure the costs of marketing against the more than half a dozen products already out there that are known and have some exposure in the real world. for about 2 years in a Model A '30 two door sedan. Mechanical brakes and air pipe over the exhaust manifold. Rain or shine and in the snow. Then my son got married in a small town in northern Germany and the car that transported them from the church to the castle where the reception was held was a Model A. How it ever found its way to Germany is beyond me. Now, in my small community, there isby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
She spun the pickup that ran the red light around 190 degrees. After I got out and was sure everyone was OK and the police arrived, I gave her my card and the insurance company called me two days later. Only now the guy who drove the pickup and got out saying he was sorry had no memory of running the red light. She had been focused on the green light and hadn't seen him cross 4 lanes on red to gby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
I bought a 4wd CRV just to have an alternative to the Boxster in the snow. And then pranged my first Boxster on glare ice the first cold day. It's a balmy 56 here in mid-NC today, going down to 12 Thursday night. Have had so much rain walking on the lawn or fairway is like walking on a carpet laid on an inch of water. I swapped batteries once in my 2001 S and reset the radio. Nothing else needed doing. By the time I dropped the top, lowered the windows and got out of my neighborhood all was well. Since it was an Optima install and I had to install the mounting kit before installing the battery and go get a slightly longer grounding strap, it took lots longer than normal. I didn't need the dealer nor a Pby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
A CPO costs the dealer a mechanic's time to inspect the car and fill out the report and money to purchase the warranty. Dealers want to maximize profits. So why not first offer it at top dollar without investing any more in it, if it doesn't sell, you can always go the CPO route later. If it does sell you have top dollar and no investment beyond carrying costs. No CPO can actually tell youby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

And getting a battery from any discount source as long as it is the right size and power is just fine. See the Owner's Manual for specs on the battery. Once I had a list of about 20 batteries that were the right size and fit, the list is outdated by now. But it shows how non-unique the battery is. Get a battery that has the vent tube fitting and connect it to the existing tube if you have one.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
You don't get something for nothing. And we expect quality education, a clean environment, roads to drive on, airline safety, bridges that don't fall down, etc. I drive a car that gets twice the MPG as the one I drove two years ago. I have no objection to paying more in either property or gas tax because I use the roads and bridges the same amount. Recall the financial trouble they were in, they were lucky if they could get a supplier to accept their order for a standard part when they designed the 996/986. I've used Bosch parts without the Porsche boxes and stenciling for several electronic or sensor items. And sometimes, when the Porsche part that was original to the car was removed it has the Bosch part number still visible as in the caby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
When I go on a trip out of the area, I call the credit card company a day in advance and let them know where I'll be traveling. Worked for me every time. I've had the card rejected as little as 200 miles from home before when I didn't do that. Now, with doing it, 2,000 miles away or even countries away are no problem.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

I live in a semi-rural county where pickups far outnumber Prius and Porsche cars. I'd think this prime country for resentment. Yet never have I ever seen any aggressive behavior toward me in either car. Careless or stupid driving, yes. Deadly accidents or totaled cars, yes. But not directed at me. I drove 50 miles up to mid-Raleigh today at 63-78 MPH in the Prius. And I was passed on the leftby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
You got called one day and if selected for one trial. Then you were good for 6 months. If you weren't selected, you were out of there in 4 hours. Quite fair I felt. I was called 3 times, 2 civil, one criminal. Twice foreman. I'm haunted 20 years later by a juror error I didn't know enough to realize was happening at the time during deliberations in the criminal trial.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
but I find it singularly unattractive. IMNSHO the back end looks heavy, the side overly sculpted. I never liked the CGT either. Maybe in person it looks different.
