and begin on varying dates so there will be a supply of off lease '13 cars for a while. I'd think they would peak more than a year from now at the 36 month point. My guess is whether a specific car gets CPO'd is a dealer decision and often depends on if the dealer thinks he has to pay the upfront cost to move the car. Winter would be a motivator as sales prospects slow. I've bought a Boxster wiby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

the rear trunk lid on a 914 never sat even with the fenders in the front and you were always adjusting the hinges. So a sister sitting on the trunk lid at that spot was a good thing.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
According to a post on another forum which also said build slots are selling of upwards of $50k. The person posting had finally decided to buy one only to be told by his dealer that the last slot went the day before. Oh to have such troubles.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
any one of which is enough for you to handle at a time. I know some of the feeling, lost dad to brain cancer and then a year, month and day later mom to complications from stomach cancer. Wrestled with executor duties and caring for her at home in between with working and little kids. Can't imagine the load on your head with job difficulties too. You have my thoughts and sympathy. And had 2 bad Alfa experiences. One blown motor and one idiot sliding into me on ice. Compounded with finding competent mechanics. We forget just how bad cars and dealerships were in those days. It was 1970, I was 27. The 914-4 had just come out and Porsche had a performance reputation (I had seen them at Marlboro, a tight race track no longer there in Md) and the dealer was just 3 blocks fromby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

to me. The $10 throw away when the battery fails kind I wear in the shower, while swimming, golfing, sleeping, etc. The fancy presentation watch I wear maybe 4 times a year and have spent over twice what it would new cost today in repairs just for the sentimental value. Reminds me of cars I've owned, though not my Boxsters.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
We have started to notice a significant change in the last few days. From Sunday to Wednesday, the change was noticeable. Poplars 90% bare, oaks just starting to change. Longleaf pine needles everywhere. Makes the golf courses tough. Blow them clean by 8:30 and by noon they are littered again. I hate to lose a ball in the leaves on the fairway even if local rules do apply. OTOH, the politicby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
And assume the selling price is less than the advertised price. I bought 2 Porsches from craigslist in a major metro area and in neither case did I pay anywhere near the KBB prices. I went to EBay looking only at sold cars and developed comparables and used them in negotiations along with PPI results and the amount of work I'd need to bring the car up to my standards. Noticed in the Raleigh paper today a dealer's ad for a '14 Boxster at $7k off list with mention of "dealer retains factory incentives". Cayman ad had same wording too. Not sure I've seen the same dealer advertising regularly.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
See if you can swap in a battery even a used but know good and/or even one of a slightly different size and see if the problem goes away. Swap the current battery back in and see. Then you can look at the really expensive things.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
Alternative fuels are still only for a few .... You have lots and lots of $$, a Tesla D at $120k. You have a house and invest in a charger system (or your rental provides a charging station), drive a short distance to a train or workplace or shop, then an electric car. Are advantaged to drive in some sort of restricted access road ... Your state gives a big rebate ... Have a few extra coin tby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
I do. Or there once was my Alfa that had a problem with the starter gear engaging so I carried a dowel and a hammer around. To start, raise hood, apply dowel to starter, apply hammer to dowel, close hood and start. Those were the days, my friends...by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
if the seal is intact then the line that leads from the valve train area to the IMS area is not going to be passing as much oil from that area as it could/should if everything is installed correctly and the oil can flow through the bearing. There will be backup in the line. Thus removing the line and plugging the hole should have very little effect on oil pressure within the valve train area. Sby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum

And the Alfa doesn't sound like an every day car. And its price point is totally different than the Miata's. Dealer availability and service availability would be different too. (I owned several newly introduced foreign cars (including 2 Alfas) in the '60s and, when you have only one dealer and there is a new car introduction, getting parts and service can be a nightmare. There are only so many Roadster buyers. Low end goes to Mazda anyway as I can't see Porsche shortening/lightening a Boxster (but only by 200 pounds), doing a new set of engines (even based on existing) and selling for much less than a base Boxster now sells for.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
ask similar questions of anyone involved with bringing these kits to market. Go back to the original announcement by Jake here and you'll find me very skeptical of the amount of testing done on the original IMS product. My background is 37 years of debugging and product management/production/support, I tend to ask questions so I can understand. answer our questions immediately and do the research we want. Maybe because he was off racing this weekend as he posted and because he works on a profit motive and we weren't paying him. And because the car is no longer in his possession. It will be interesting to see if we hear anything about this car again.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
who made the bearing that was fed by the DOF And if he would contact Pedro and see if he would like the DOF back for analysis. I'm also curious what the condition of the bearing was when removed for replacement.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
You paid $1k for an oil change and plugs? Plugs were $34 each? Ouch.by mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
in a later posting he has said what he is ordering to replace the DOF and IMS bearing. He hasn't cited the bearing itself as a suspect nor has he pulled the bearing and identified who made it that I've seen. It occurs to me that the creators of the DOF have said that the DOF draws an inconsequential amount of oil from the valve train area. Some folks suspect the base oil pressure as the cause ofby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
It isn't being posted by someone doing their first post. On one forum, the poster had over 1,300 posts. So I start from an assumption that he is acting in good faith. May be right or wrong. He says he is in the paid business of repairing the car, not doing research. So we may never know more about what the conditions were beyond what he has reported. He is apparently removing the DOF and thby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
My second Boxster went through 4 fixes for the airbag light. Both buckles two years apart, the grounding kit several years later and then a month or so later when the light reappeared the shop was told by the zone rep to try a new procedure. The last stayed fixed for the 3+ years I had the car. I have no idea what the change was nor if it was ever codified in a TSB. Only that when I went aroundby mikefocke, '01S Sanford, NC - Main Forum
Or insurance? To insure that car even just for show or DE type track purposes would cost what? Talked with a friend this weekend who showed me pictures of his rare absolutely cherry red numbers matching '65 Pontiac GTO tri-power just after it went up in smoke as he started it up in the garage for the first time in 6 months.
