I admit to doing a drive by of the board from time to time. It's great to see the old names. The 2003 Boxster was on its way to being an SPB car last time I saw her. Second blown 2.7 engine, so the shell was being prepped for a new life. I still have a Porsche. the 2006 Cayman I acquired after the 1st blown engine in the Boxster in 2010, Each year of its life, it keeps losing the factory triby Dave In MD - Main Forum
Great story! We have something in common Harvey: Manny pushed me down this slippery slope as well. I haven't regretted a minute of it. A couple of us from the Summit Point crowd were at Road Atlanta last year and want to go back - it's definately a bucket list track! We've been talking it up and there may be a few more to join us for the trip down again this year. Their first event isby Dave In MD - Main Forum
Just fixed the link. - Guenter QuoteGuenter in Ontario I just couldn't see myself taking one of these for the drives that I do with my Boxster. I think that's true of most owners. That's way you see Carrera GT's, now 8 or 9 years old, with only a few thousand miles or less on them. Not all the CGTs were pampered. I used to see this one all the time in the summer driving around the neighborhoodby Dave In MD - Main Forum
Interesting that they don't mention the Carrera GT. It and the Boxster had a distinct look that told you they were brothers, though at about 10 times the price. While current press with the Walker crash has cast a shadow over the car (most cars don't do very well when hitting light poles and trees at around 100 MPH), it is still a fantastic example of Porsche's mid-engine cars.by Dave In MD - Main Forum
Funny you should mention that! A track friend did a David Murry event last year at Sebring and there's the 48 hours event. I did an event at Road Atlanta in the spring this year and I'd love to get on Sebring next year. Let me know if you're coming up to VIR. I was just there last weekend with Potomac. They do a 3 day event every year over Labor Day weekend, and Zone 2 puts on a 3 day evenby Dave In MD - Main Forum
That's a great looking car. It won't take long to get used to the mid engine layout on the track. You've got a great set of options for that as well. My vote would be to let Pedro show you the lines for the corners to get you faster, sooner!by Dave In MD - Main Forum
QuoteMarcW to repair my 03 996 after the mule deer accident and that was with no air bag deployment. I know from my experience with my Cayman S when the air bags/seat belt pre-tensioners go off, the cost to repair takes another big jump up. To me I have to say there is though just a hint of concern that given the severity of the impact -- air bags going off is indicative of that (as if the gutsby Dave In MD - Main Forum

I had to leave early on Sunday and wasn't there but my understanding is this was the 3rd green session. Speed was just over 125. The car had track insurance and is fixable, but you're right in that it won't be cheap. Right front was pretty much toast as Guenter lists. No one was injured in any way. The driver had their face shield DOWN and had part of the right side mirror hit and damage tby Dave In MD - Main Forum
QuoteHarvey in FL QuoteGuenter in Ontario As you said, Roger, there's no other car that I've driven that makes me feel at one with the car the way the Boxster does. I never feel like I'm having to muscle the car through the twisty roads. We just dance through the curves together. The Zen of driving. Hey Guenter, sounds like you have never driven a Cayman S. I believe mine was born yesterday oby Dave In MD - Main Forum
Well, I'm still around but couldn't have made this weekend. Maybe the next one. ESBB was always a bit like herding cats, but when we did get them together they were a fun time. How long til crab season?by Dave In MD - Main Forum
QuoteEricG Just being curious, couldn't this have been solved by pluging a battery maintainer to the cigar lighter socket ? Would a maintainer supply enough power to pop the trunk open ? Yes. Had to open my frunk last Friday by plugging in a maintainer that way. It worked for me.by Dave In MD - Main Forum
It's a Porsche dealer in DC so it's going to be a bit on the high side. Private sale should be at least $2K less based on what I've seen. Of course, there are other factors like: I love this car and it's color combination. :-)by Dave In MD - Main Forum
QuoteRoger987 On a race course, kicking Cayman butt. Just sold the Boxster 2 weeks ago to a friend. It's really not the cars, it's the people. This is my current ride. Still playing with the Boxsters on the track.by Dave In MD - Main Forum

+1 on not doing a "sealant". I'm with the others here. Skip the dealer add ons and spend the money on gas and maybe track time. Get the clear bra to protect your paint from rock chips. Wax the car every few months and clay bar it every year and when the clear bra comes off you won't be able to tell it was ever there.by Dave In MD - Main Forum
QuoteLawdevil & CURVN8R QuoteSteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) Leasing a Porsche robs a person of one of the more enjoyable aspects of ownership. First picture of the car after picking it up in Pompano Beach Florida on January 25, 2006. My wife and I drove it home to Maryland, coming up the coast, trying to stay warm, and keeping the top down as long as we could. Lots of good times with this car!by Dave In MD - Main Forum
Quotenmanitou (Doug in MI) Finally decided to do a DE thru my regional PCA. Need newbie advice. Lot's of questions, but a few are: Tech inspection requires 50% brake pad thickness. 50% of what? I can't find OEM thickness anywhere? Tire pressure - what works best on a stock setup (PS2's) Any different for Autocross setup? (trying that before the track days) Helmets - need to buy one. I think I would have had to take a "sick" day to pick it up. Enjoy the car. After you get a few miles on it, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the differences.by Dave In MD - Main Forum
QuoteGuenter in Ontario Has anyone come across a source for mesh grill covers for the 981? There seem to be a number of places that have them for 986 and 987. Only one I could find that has them for 981 is Zunsport. Pretty pricey. Hmmmmm. Wonder if there's such a thing as TechnoMesh? Hay Guenter, I don't know about the status of "TechnoMesh", but these guys have been around for a while: Porsby Dave In MD - Main Forum

If Mike's obtained statistics are legitimate, then only a few could be covered without breaking the bank. I clearly understand the warranty can only cover the bearing. I clearly understand that Porsche only covers the engine through it's warranty period. In someways it is definitely about "you pay your money, you take your chances". Except, I know two people who were out of warranty when theiby Dave In MD - Main Forum
Quotegrant whether it really was installation error. In the end, you don;t care, but it matters in a general sense. if it is even a little out of alignment, it will fail, and fast (as will any wobbly bearing). That was my thought too. If the install was bad, it should have failed before 5,000 miles. It also made no noise before failure which leads me to think it was simply a manufacturing dby Dave In MD - Main Forum
The bearing failed with no warning under mild acceleration. There were no other issues with the engine. It was disassembled and sent to LN for analysis. They replied that there was no indication of manufacturing defect, but replaced the bearing and shaft with one of their multi-row shafts. Further communication with LN resulted in simply blaming the installer for installing it incorrectly, wby Dave In MD - Main Forum

On the street cruising with the top down and nursing a cold beverage, I certainly understand the left arm on the door sill with the right in the 2 o'clock position as a mental support machanism. I have been using the Pagid Orange for a few years now. I too change street to track pads for an event. I have a nice impact wrench and floor jack so it only takes a few extra minutes when I'm putting on the track tires. Yes, they're Pagid so of course they squeal, but on the track I don't care.
