I bought a 2000 S Tip almost exactly a year ago and it already had 100k on it when I got it. I'm up to 110k miles on it now. Besides wear & tear stuff like tires, my car has needed the following. New oil fill tube - $339 w/labor New MAF - $280, no labor, diy New alternator - $253, diy New coolant tank - $500 w/labor New Tip coolant control valve - $100 w/labor New brake booster pipe - $100by Dale_K - Main Forum
I wish I'd have done mine outside on the driveway rather than inside my garage. I could see there was some crud on the A/C and radiator fins beyond the loose debris, insect bodies, feathers, etc that were on the facing of each coil. But because I was in the garage I didn't want to make a big mess with a full blown coil cleaning using the garden hose and I was too lazy to put the wheels back onby Dale_K - Main Forum
Honey, pull up. I need to see if that's an Arkansas plate.by Dale_K - Main Forum
I was at the Walmart today, too and found Rotella T6 in 5w-40 and am considering it. It was in the diesel truck area but the jug had gas motor specs on it along with the compression ignition ratings. I don't know what the "T6" means but the stuff was only $21 for a 5 quart jug.by Dale_K - Main Forum
I replaced mine and no more leaks - for about 2 months. I had a nice pressurized system during those 2 months until the tank cracked, lol. I should have considered the old cap as kind of a primitive pressure release valve. I bought the tank but chickened out on doing it myself once I saw how hard it was going to be. When I took it to the local Porsche shop in Little Rock the guy said it was gby Dale_K - Main Forum
I'm glad you had a good time. All the pics show familar scenes for me. My part of Arkansas is very pretty. Honk when you drive past Hot Springs Village. I live close enough I could actually hear you if the windows were open.by Dale_K - Main Forum
Do the wind screens actually work? I've got the plastic center section but I swear it's actually more turbulent with it installed. The seats in my 2000 S nearly fill the roll bar hoops so I don't see how the screen would improve anything but I'm willing to buy one for the driver if you guys tell me they're worth it. My seats....by Dale_K - Main Forum
I'm not sure how I'm going to solve this. The trunk trim has some new owners and they don't look like they're gonna give it up.by Dale_K - Main Forum
I live just north of Hot Springs, in Hot Springs Village. I heard from somebody that the automobile museum near Petit Jean park had closed. It's still a very nice trip from Hot Springs up Rt 7 (wave as you go by my place) and north through Ola. Stop at Nimrod Dam on the way. Rt. 7 was built by CCC crews in the 30's, similar to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Anyway Petit Jean park has some nice viewby Dale_K - Main Forum
I put a 2 foot long 2x4 under the vertical flange under the rocker cover sort of mid-way on the car, then jack under the board, place the jackstands on that side both front & rear. I think the 2 foot long board spreads the load out adequately but I don't claim to be an expert. I'm scared of the central rear jacking.by Dale_K - Main Forum
I was just thinkg about starting a thread like this. I bought my 2000 S Tip late last year with 100k miles on it. Minimal service records except for the most recent previous owner but the car seems to have been a daily driver. No leaks under the car and the Tip seems to work just fine. The car got a new RMS last summer so the Tip was R&R'd to get to the seal but no service was done. I'veby Dale_K - Main Forum
I've been fighting a CEL and recently replaced my MAF sensor and luckily for me it was successful. Did you disconnect the battery after installing the new sensor? I disconnected mine and then followed a process where after you reconnect the battery you turn the key to the on position (don't start the motor) and leave it on for about a minute, then turn the key off. My car ran a little weird foby Dale_K - Main Forum
Everything turned out OK last night. There wasn't any severe weather at all. Everybody was spooked by the predictions (including me).by Dale_K - Main Forum
Really bad storms came through last night but my street in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas escaped although elsewhere in the community a lot of folks have trees on their homes. But now the Weather Channel has me down for a Torcon value of 9 tonight. I've never heard of a 9 before - I think it's like the old joke about how to prepare for the nuclear war where the last item was to put your head betby Dale_K - Main Forum
I have a 2000 S with 104k miles so I'm paying close attention to your thread. Please post incremental updates as you progress with your car. I'm interested in which choices you make, how much things cost and how you get the work done once you've sourced the replacement tranny. Obviously I'm hoping things turn out well for you.by Dale_K - Main Forum
I pried the roll bar trim off only to find that wasn't the source of the problem. There were two small rubber pads under the plastic screen frame at the bottom that create some compression which holds the top clips tight in their holders. I put a couple small pieces of sticky back velcro next to the old rubber pads. The velcro was thicker than the old compressed rubber and I needed to press doby Dale_K - Main Forum
The previous owner put a Walmart battery in my 2000 S and it seems to work perfectly.by Dale_K - Main Forum
Even with modern vehicles it's possible to find genuine design deficiencies where no amount of mechanical aptitude or regular maintenance will make any difference. I had a 2007 Cummins diesel pickup and during the first 2 years I was in the shop 16 times for unscheduled repairs - 14 check engine lights and 2 recalls. Dodge, to its credit, allowed me to replace the vehicle with something else atby Dale_K - Main Forum
I sure would like to see the inside of the old bearing with the grease seal removed. Seems like the seal would eventually let a little oil inside and wash out the grease but I'm no expert. If there's still grease in your old unit it would prove me wrong.by Dale_K - Main Forum
