for a good one is minimum $12,000.00 US, twice your cost to swap the tranny. How's the Tip in that car? What else might be bad or about to go bad in that other Boxster? Etcetera, etcetera. Sometimes you're better off keeping the friend you have & know.by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum

smart for him to have done so if he did, but still a dirty deed, right? I totally trust Pedro & his products.by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
. . . consider the cost of a new Porsche or a used one say late model, low mileage, great condition. If everything about your car is great except the Tiptronic, you're then saving $$ w/the tranny swap.by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
I did end up getting new front wheel bearings. They needed replacing but turns out they were not the source of the noise problem. Now that it's warm here allowing windows to be down, it became clear groaning/crunching noise was coming from the rear of the car. First thing & most obvious were the two rear engine/transmission mounts, which were very bad. Once those were replaced, we test drby John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum

by our world leaders. Take from these what one will (& it is not all bad @ all), but one conclusion I reach is individually owned automobiles, & the freedom to go where we want, when we want, & w/o anyone necessarily knowing exactly where we are @ any time, is intended to be far less than today.by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum

I wanted a Porsche & I wanted that particular Porsche, for which I had been on a waiting list while we lived in Germany since 1995. In 1997, the base price for the 911 was $63,750. Tthe 968's & 928's last year was 1995. Those wanting a German marque & competing w/the 986 were the Mercedes SLK debuting in 1996 as well as the BMW Z3 debuting also in 1996 (German release of the 986 waby John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
Many of us recall when the Boxster was first introduced in the North American market, in spring of 1997 I believe. Porsche was very open about setting their base price for the Boxster @ $39,980 US, as a strategy to make them affordable to a new audience of drivers, many of them younger ones, who felt priced out of purchasing a Porsche otherwise. It was also a Hail Mary of sorts for the company,by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum

From your description, bet I would run into the same problems w/that conversion as w/going the other way. Certainly wished either I lived closer to you, or you lived closer to me. I drive appx 185 miles one way to Omaha to have Wolfi serviced. I found an excellent shop in Papillion, an Omaha suburb, called Star Class Motors. Family business & have good mechanics on staff. locking automatically when driving, not when parked. In my wife's 2022 SUV for example, after engaging "Drive" & @ about 5 mph speed, all the doors lock automatically & they remain locked while driving. I agree w/you that having doors locked in an accident does not advance crashworthiness but rather I believe the thought is that doors being locked helps to prevent passengers from beingby John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum

a good, used manual transmission? I bought a German spec 944 that had its original auto transmission replaced w/a 944 5-speed just before I bought it. Fit in great & worked great until I brought it back to VA & sold it to Holly's uncle, who proceeded to total the car a couple years later. Thinking it might be a simpler & less expensive option than a Tiptronic. Also, lots more usedby John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
Very interesting article & well written by you. A question I have: The thing I don't understand about killing off ICE (thank you Porsche) in favor of EV is the many often overlooked costs of doing so. Mining for the minerals needed for batteries being just one, but there are many, many other processes that produce CO2 in the process of developing a car that produces no CO2. I think the neby John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
only gone so far as noticing that huge (relatively) building where the hydrogen was being produced. Also noted the guy referred to the loud noises, etc. It also struck me that the cost of the facility would have had to be substantial & I wondered how long it would take to pay the investment down before profitability. Likely the whole operation receives both federal & state subsidies.by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum

EV conversion & elimination of ICE vehicles. And make no mistake these same people do intend to eliminate ICE vehicles as soon as they can. They simply intend for only the rich & entitled (as they determine to be entitled) to have any vehicle @ all. For the rest of those who used to frequently own more than one vehicle, the intent is to force them into public transportation, e.g. busesby John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
from a guy who still runs a 2.5. The big complaint I have heard is the engine sound doesn't stand up to the sound of a flat six, any flat six, even my 2.5. That's true, but I'd much rather have a Turbo 4 than an all-electric. I think the declining sales stem from the Porsche market knowing the electric direction our company is determined to pursue. Of course, they don't have a choice & thby John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
I agree, Pedro. It's also going to impact negatively the PCA, which is a great automobile club. I have dutifully purchased spring & fall raffle tickets, but the first time they're offering an electric Porsche up for raffle is the day I will pass. Pedro, you're going to have to go back to school & get that electrical engineering degree if you're going to continue on as the Boxster techby John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
This is the link to my checkout page after I loaded 4 Contis into my shopping cart & elected to ship & have installed w/Tire Rack's local installer. I don't know if this will be visible but try it & see. The cost of $196.00 is toward the bottom of the page. Under the displayed price of $196.00, click on "Pricing Details & Premium Services". Really great to hear from you again, Laz. Thank you for chiming in. For old Wolfi, a '97 986, those particular Contis aren't N-rated, but I sure believe they're the best summer tire I could run.by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
My dealer is a listed approved installer & his rate to do so is $196.00. I asked my dealer & he told me he sets his own rate & sets it sufficiently high that he can beat the overall cost of selling & installing slightly by selling me what I want & "throwing in" mounting, etc. The dealers make profit on the products they sell & they end up making more by selling & insby John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
Warming up here in SoDak today, so this afternoon I dismounted winter 16s & mounted summer 17s fitted w/new Continental Extreme Contact Sport 02. Wow, great tires. Best summer tires I've run to date. Strait ahead @ speed they hold the road straight & stick like glue. The instant I want to swerve or begin a turn, they're immediately all in. Really, really like these new Contis.by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
