Yesterday I bought a set of 4 new summer tires for Wolfi. I have long run Continental tires on this car for both summer & winter tires. The tires I replaced were Continental Extreme Contact Sport, which I mounted in September 2017. Great tires. Yesterday, I purchased Conti's newest refinement in that line of "Max Performance" summer tire, the Continental Extreme Contact Sport 02. Little diffby John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
Default position for doors while driving in a German car is the unlocked position, whereas in North American cars, ours are locked while driving. When I lived in Germany I asked a couple of German friends about this & they told me their practice is because in the event of an accident, the doors should be unlocked to allow passengers to evacuate the vehicle. I believe we have ours locked toby John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum

I would pull codes to see if anything pops there. If you don't have a reader, you can have it done on most any auto parts store, i.e. O'Reillly, AutoZone, etc. I remember your car is a 2.7, but can't remember year. Pedro mentioned programming the car to lock automatically, but my 97 986 doesn't have that feature, or if it does, it's not in my manual & I've never experienced auto-lock. as that state may decide the only manufacturer placing the ignition on the left side is out of compliance w/everyone else & will have to start having the ignition switch on the right side like everyone else. Retrofit existing Porsches for compliance? Joke flag is up. See my last quote in my signature block, below. Greetings, Laz. when swapping out new for old batteries, just in case, & have found that the tender will not allow the ECU trims to go away after the new battery is hooked up. I realize that's more than an abundance of caution, more like an excess of caution, but that's what I have done in the past & it does work. Obviously, one must be careful w/the cables during the process. I wrap each one in ragsby John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum

would destroy some of the trim settings in the car's ECU based on an individual driver's style of driving. Is this not true or if it is true, are those saved settings that are lost insignificant & can easily be relearned once the battery is reconnected & the car is driven for a while?by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
Good points, Pedro. Michael, take a close look @ your coolant reservoir in the back trunk. It's plastic & translucent. What color is the coolant in the tank & what color is the coolant you have been adding?by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
I stand corrected on the color. Changed the manual transmission fluid at the same time & believe that stuff was clear. Whatever became of the leak?by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum

PENTOSIN brand CHF 11S power steering fluid. This is the fluid that came w/Wolfi from the factory & he's a 97 Boxster. This fluid is clear, not colored & it is the factory recommended fluid. Don't know whether the OP has solved his problem yet, but during the winter of 21/22, I experienced the same type of leak as described & it turned out to be a failed power steering line conneby John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum

and it's a very impressive high performance all season tire, well suited IMO to our cars. Still not as good as dedicated performance winter tires, but very good for those who want one year 'round tire and need to contend with snow in the winter. They seem to sacrifice performance in the dry due to softer side walls, but a little more air pressure might fix that. I'll stick with my ContiSportCoby John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
have happened, is synthetic oil may have gotten past a bad seal or two because of its more viscous properties. If this is true, then systhetic oil may be better in getting past the failing IMS seal thus better lubricating the bearings than dyno oil would & slightly prolonging the eventual bearing failure.by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
an Audi engine. The water cooled 924 Turbo raced successfully in its maiden Le Mans outing, so I'll go w/the 924 Turbo (but wait, you're looking for only water cooled heads & the 924 Turbo won't qualify for that). Now the 959 had water cooled heads on basically an old style air cooled 911 engine and a form of the 959 competed in the Paris-Dakar cross country race, but that was after the 924by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum

their air cooled engines. The 4-valve heads experienced too much extreme heat and the valves & guides couldn't tolerate that. 4-valve engines were necessary for modern engines to breathe sufficiently to satisfy emission requirements. Also, the greater heat ranges of air cooled engines make engine management much more challenging, again especially in regards to controlling emissions. All oby John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
I took a good look on the Tire Rack and the reviews, while positive overall, clearly indicated that tire is not a winter tire and is not good in snow of any substantial amount. When I talk about compromises, for example, I mean all-season tires can't possibly have the soft, stickly rubber compounds that dedicated high performance summer tires have for summer driving as just one example that I coby John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
charger plugged in when parked. Here's what I do. Pull the fuse that powers the plug and then use a screw driver to gently pry the inner side prongs of the female socket back toward the center. This will bring it back to where it was originally but you'll need to do this every once in a while, especially if you leave something plugged in for long periods of time other than the cigar lighter.by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
on a modern Porsche, aren't you? That's still my favorite wheel design especially in flat black centers & polished rims. Believe the new Fuchs wheels have the polished rims sealed however. they do nothing well. Put a new set of winter tires on those 16" rims of yours and you'll be amazed how they transform your car into the perfect winter driving vehicle. No comparison. Switch to good summer tires on your 18s and you'll be set for year 'round driving. Where I live here in northern Virginia, I put the winter tires on around Thanksgiving and the summer tires around Easter.by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
octane in a pinch. I would use what they're recommending, i.e. 91 octane or higher for the reasons Pedro & Marc W. highlight.by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
18" isn't available right now but Fuchs Performance site says they're "coming soon". Until then, 19s & 20s are available. Looks like the former German Fuchs wheel manufacturer is defunct. Fuchs Performance Wheels is a California company and I believe this company is the supplier that provides Porsche with the Fuchs wheels it offers on a couple of their special models.
