Which direct oil feed IMS fix do you use? LN Engineering's system or your own Technofix DOF plus your Technofix DOF IMS bearing kit? Also, can I simply install your Technofix DOF over my already converted LN Engineering IMS bearing kit or do you recommend installing your bearings instead?by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
wondering, Pedro, what kinds of preventive maintenance/replacements/repairs we need to be planning for & when between now & 200,000 miles. For example, cam chain tensioners/shoes, etc. As of now, I know I will replace & upgrade the first generation LN Engineering IMS @ 140,000 w/an oil-fed one. What has been your experience w/your Boxster? Wolfi is a MY 97 base 986.by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
Sorry about Boxi being a no-go for you, Guenter. Just found these on Amazon & the customer reviews are good, but I have no experience w/them.by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
a brand I found on Amazon called "Boxi". They are still working today just as the day I installed them & they have been the longest lasting replacement struts I have owned. Here's a link to a pair of the front trunk Boxi struts I purchased. Don't know the model year for your Boxster, but you might check on Amazon to see if Boxi has a strut that will fit your car. Likely a good idea to repby John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
On Wolfi, I used to get metallic rattles on deceleration. Cause was easy to determine though by looking underneath the car @ the rear. The steel mesh heat shields around the bottom of the stock Porsche catalytic converters (2) were rusted. I simply removed the rusted mesh w/tin snips & noise went away.by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
I have found having a good reader is a good investment, one that can not only read & manage codes on one's Boxster, but also on other vehicles as well. Such a reader will be used & appreciated more than once.by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum

As the Monkeys so wisely once pointed out, "I'm a Believer", Pedro! Contact cleaner it is . . .by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
over time it becomes sticky & no longer a good lubricant & what has been treated becomes a magnet for dust & dirt to stick. Pedro's recommendation to use electrical contact cleaner is the ticket IMO. Also, I think clear silicone aerosol spray should work as well.by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
quite pricey, but what isn't anymore? If I needed a new top or if Wofi's plastic window finally gives up the ghost, I would go this route.by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
Rats! Maybe this? I didn't call their toll free number to inquire but good idea for you to call them. Or this? -by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
removal of the canvas top from the frame & then reinstalling & aligning the canvas top. I would want a provider w/experience in doing this to tackle mine. Do some Internet exploration & I believe you will find brand new replacement tops w/heated glass rear windows instead of plastic for somewhere around the price you've been quoted to have the plastic window replaced in your existinby John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
the provider knows what he's doing & what you end up w/meets your standards. A "good price" for a substandard service is no value.by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
@ Autozone, any like parts shop, or any automotive battery retailer. Also check cables as Pedro points out as well as the connectors of the cables to the battery i.e., check for tightness, corrosion, etc.by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
the solutions' producers use only tap water @ best.by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
& then soak the old one in vinegar hoping to dissolve whatever is blocking it now. If that works, I will keep the old one & use it when the other side goes bad. I believe the cause was leaving the car sit out for 3 weeks in the hot sun while clearing a place in the garage for ol' Wolfi. We have just moved into new digs & took that long to unpack boxes of tools & other garage stby John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum

Right side working fine but driver's side a mere drizzle. Can these be cleaned & if so, how? I don't see a pinhole like the old ones . . .by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
our cars are particular about tranny fluid & I recommended what I have used, which is Pentosin. I've read a number on Internet postings noting hard shifting when using other brands. Since you're experiencing what you describe as "balking" shifting, perhaps when previously refilled, it was w/another brand? If so, a switch to Pentosin may fix you up. 5-speed manual, MY 97. Fluid looked like new, no metal on drain plug magnet. These transmissions are very particular about tranny fluids. Best to use original Porsche or Pentosin brand. My mechanic recommends Royal Purple Synchromax & tells me he installs in his Porsche manual tranny customers. I used Pentosin.by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum

but before I left they did all my work on my '97 Boxster, Wolfi. Kevin Fox from the link below seems to still be the chief wrench after taking over from his father, Stan. Stan serviced my car for about 10 years & Kevin did my last Virginia major service before leaving Virginia for South Dakota & he did a fine job. Maybe someone else w/more recent experience than I vouch.by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
If they were going to do that, they would have had to begin big time by now. No, the end game is actually about much fewer people owning & driving personal vehicles of any kind. They'll let us know which of us are sufficiently special to have one.by John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
synthetic fuel is certainly more than we're even paying now w/the intentional raising of our fossil fuel prices. Though if they're eventually to ban fossil fuels for autos, which seems to be their determined desire, I'll gladly pay $7.00/gal, if that's all I can get. Noticed in the article the author mentioned the existing electric infrastructure won't allow for mass E-fuel production. That saby John Brown of SE SoDak - Main Forum
