Wow! Mark 300 k,thats amazing, what year auto do u have? I just printed out the removal procedure i found on line with pics on front bumper remova for 987.1 It appears to be slightly different to the procedure for the 986.Unfortunately they did not go any further than the bumper removal. It would be nice if there were some 987 owners that could comment on this also. Thx for the replyby moresquirt - Main Forum
I always blow out leaves and dirt in the air intakes in front of the rads regularly BUT have never removed the bumper and Condensors to clean out the dirt behind the condensors that builds up on the large centre rad.I have noticed that on pics of the 986 models threre eventually will be a large build-up that should be cleaned out.My question is on the 987 did Porsche change the design in any wayby moresquirt - Main Forum
Are your side air vents painted red to match, hard to see but if so can u post a pic, side shot.I am debating on painting mine on my 06 S matching Carrara white! Thats good news regarding the limited issues u have had.Mines had a few more issues, water pump pulley shaft snapped off end of last summer, apparently an 06 thing, have seen a few other 06,s (bad batch i guess) also the convertible rod ballsby moresquirt - Main Forum
Thx Pedro, waitin to see iff the Cdn doller goes up a bit more before ordering.I wanted to stop by your shop and pick it up when i was down in Florida last week BUT our car was stolen in Miami with all are belongings ,ID and money, not a fun time!by moresquirt - Main Forum
I want to do this mod before getting my car out for the spring here in Muskoka Ontario.I have read that the belt tension adjuster still has enough adjustment and a smaller belt is not necessary, can anyone confirm that .Thxby moresquirt - Main Forum
I live in a remote area in Muskoka Ontario,Canada and last summer hooked up with about 8 other porsche cars for a ride around our area. There were only 2 Porsche Boxsters on the ride plus mine. I talked to the other 2,one was an 2010,and the other was a 2004.The owner off the 2004 told me he had a new engine in his car,i asked why and i told me the IMS blew and toke out the engine. I have read that u gain another 5 hp,not sure about torque numbers but what i really need to know is the gain in the upper or lower rpms.by moresquirt - Main Forum
Unfortunately i don,t live in Florida, next to Pedros shop or within 2.5 hrs of any Porsche shop for that matter. So i am having to perform these maintenance procedures myself.Thankfully there are sites like Pedros that offer great technical information on how to,s for the Shade tree mechanic like myself. The install went fairly smoothly, maybe a few 4 letter words uttered but otherwise strait forwby moresquirt - Main Forum
Purchased my new pump and gasket from a member on here, have not installed yet but the pump is a Porsche unit and bearing spins quiet and smooth with no play. Im going to try clamping off the 2 hoses to the pump and thermostat and hopefully cut down on time required to bleed system.Mine is a 2006 S so it still has the bleeder on the coolent bottle (07,s do not apparently so u need a special air reby moresquirt - Main Forum
Thx for the tips Marc,u obviously been down this road before! Glad the cars off the road in storage for winter here in Ont,so i can relax and do the job rite without rushing it ,its not goin any were for at least 4 months!!by moresquirt - Main Forum
Thx,I want to reuse any coolent thats removed, only pulling the one hose to pump, not changing thermostat.I take it the Gasket has no sealent on it. Does the heater need to be run on high full heat while burping the system, doing it the manual way.ThxRead the 15 steps in Pedros help section but no mention off it.by moresquirt - Main Forum
Firstly, does the gasket have a sealing compound on it or should i use a light coat of Permatex Aviation sealent on either side. Secondly,if i clamp the hose a few inches back entering the pump will that hold more fluid in and hopefully require less bleeding after with less fluid loss or will the coolent just come out the pump after unbolting it. Thirdly,i don,t own a special bleeding tool, will blby moresquirt - Main Forum
Marc i just got off the phone with the starter tech place and he had pulled the starter completely apart, there is no spring ect, just a solinoid that spins the gear out and back and slides on bushings . They did clean it all up as it was pretty gummed up inside .You can,t clean it up by just spraying cleaner in the end off the starter by the gear. All i know is i am able to pull the gear out and spby moresquirt - Main Forum
I have a new AOS sittin on the bench but have not installed it yet as i have not had any indication off failure ie:large puffs off smoke out the tail pipe.I did have the plastic hose off that comes of the AOS to make removal off starter easier,no signs off splitting in hose, there was some sign off oil around all the connections(seepage) and also in the hose but my Porsche shop told me thats normaby moresquirt - Main Forum
Well this is the second time i have pulled the starter to see why it squeels after startup.First time i could find nothing wrong visually so just lubed the gear end and shaft with teflon spray but problem returned a month later. This time i took it into a shop that does only starter repairs. They pulled it apart and found nothing wrong.Strange!! I did notice that when i got it back i could physicalby moresquirt - Main Forum
Mine was built in March 2006 (Finland) Sounds like a bad batch off starters. Will have mine out soon and can comment on inside but i think this is a shaft metal quality issue.by moresquirt - Main Forum

Checked tensioner and its not binding at all, looks like a defective shaft or poor metal quality were is snapped. I called PHaff porsche and they want almost $500 canadian for the pump and gasket.I am in Ont,Canada and looked at the Suncoast Porsche site and they want $289 for both US Funds. I had just changed the oil and washed car and was takin a spin round the block before winter storage and bang! No power steering and battery light on. I figured i broke the serpentine belt,Only had to drive 1/2 a mile more to home so i figured it would be ok and wouldent over heat. When i got home i pulled the engine cover and discovered the belt was intact BUT the water pump pulley was lying in tby moresquirt - Main Forum
Just looked up Bosch starter, found it a Auto parts way in Ont Canada (have purchased here before ) price is $350 !! Tonyd ,were do u see it for $ 130?by moresquirt - Main Forum
I have a guy locally that does starter rebuilds for cars boats ect but am looking at approx $100 for disassembly new parts and reassembly.May be better off picking up a Bosch unit,Thx for tip ,dident realize 05 and 06 parts were different!by moresquirt - Main Forum
I have had an on going problem with my starter. The problem is that when u try to start the car (50 % off time) the starter bendix just not return rite away and it makes a loud squeel. I removed the starter couple months ago and cleaned the end with break cleaner and then while operating it on the vise with a battery hooked up sprayed to Teflon Lube in side the bendix assembly while operating theby moresquirt - Main Forum
I was wondering if my 06 S might have added value as it was the last 3.2 litre flat 6 but with the last revision and larger IMS bearing. The 3.4 on the earlier had issues with heat causing cracks in the cylinders in believe. I have not read anything lately regarding problems with them 2007 and up.Pedro have u noticed any issues with the newer 3.4,s. Was there much off a weight difference betweenby moresquirt - Main Forum
Im not so sure, the older porsche 911,s all had known issues almost every model year and they still increased in value.Yes,the IMS is a problem but for the 06 thru 08 i have not read about 1 issue. That said i still wish i had held out for an 09 with none. Will they hold or go up in value? I guess time will tell, may need about another 10 years to find out!by moresquirt - Main Forum
I was reading an article on all Caymen and Boxster 2016 and on now come with 4 cylinders and depending on how well there received the 911 may end up that way also.Im sure they will still be a great car to drive, possibly better as this is a sports car not a muscle car and weight is very important. BUT will the diehard purists flock to the used market for older strait 6 models and possible elevateby moresquirt - Main Forum
