Sweet Ride, what year is that? The rear end looks pretty much the same as my 06S.I usually keep mine on the rode till I see snow and then I pull it off road, its a long winter here in Ont.by moresquirt - Main Forum
Thx all,i have had belt off to inspect, easy job.Even water pump dosent look to complicated.I decided to toss a spare belt in the trunk and keep cheaking the pump yearly (only do approx. 7000 miles/yr) Thx for the tips on the pink on shaft Guenter, will look for that also.by moresquirt - Main Forum
I still have the original pump and even the serpentine belt and the belt still has no cracks and the pumps not showing any signs offf leaking but when i pull the belt it does have a very small amount off play, maybe 1/2 mil that with rocking it top to bottom from outside edge if i pull on the pulley strait out its almost nothing. Also still feels smooth to turn by hand and no noise when running.Iveby moresquirt - Main Forum
The one thing i don,t get and why i havent jumped on board with the DOF yet is the fact that Porsche could have done this with lil cost. Why did they not do this. They have really high paid engineers that i am sure were aware of the issues years before and the bean counters also knew there was a storm coming with a possible law suit. All that and what they decided to do was toss in a larger wider siby moresquirt - Main Forum
I mixed the fluid with a European formula that stated was ok to be mixed with pentosin ect. I think i may have a leak or the high pressure releif valve may be bad.I did not have to add much to get from no reading to full cold was maybe couple oz at most.Thx for info,i will keep an eye on it.by moresquirt - Main Forum
Was cleaning my throttle bodies and noticed that it looked wet and dirty around the bottom off the power steering resivoir so i cheaked the level and it was low.It appears to be coming from the overflow tube that comes out near the filler cap.I dont race it,its a daily driver. Is this typical for an 06 model. Is it caused from heat or did they make the resovoir to small, just guessing here.I toppedby moresquirt - Main Forum
Pedro,Sorry for my lack off experience but i am not sure i understand. When i pulled the front 4" hose to remove the throttle body i had to disconnect a small 1/8" vac line. When i pulled the rear 4"hose a small 1/8" vac line came out from under the intake Plenum on the power steering side.I looked under there with a mirror and i see a 3 way Tee off vac lines but there all connected,it would have tby moresquirt - Main Forum
I just pulled the throttle body out and have a few questions, firstly this is a 2006 S so slightly different than the 986 on some stuff per pics in do it yourself section. When i pulled the rear or large hose section u call a T i think (but not a T on Mine) its a seperate 4" line from the Throttle body Hose . closest to the rear seats out,it pulled a small hose off with it underneath maybe 1/8" plaby moresquirt - Main Forum
thx, stock air filter new 10,000 miles ago and paved roads only so u r prob correct on Maf .Its the original AOS but will cheak Vac lines first. If AOS is starting to go is there another tell tale sign other than idle fluctuations thxby moresquirt - Main Forum
My totally stock Boxster with 110,000 kilometers (65kmiles) now has a slight fluctuation in rpm at idle, maybe a 100 rpm than was never there before, the needle was dead solid. Is this normal or an indication that somethings going out off adjustment, maybe MAFneed cleaning or throttle body .I have no cheak engine lights and otherwise runs good. What r your thoughts, leave it till it get possibley worby moresquirt - Main Forum
Well as mentioned above,i decided to order the relief valve assembly, problem solved ,no more knocking. What i did notice when i replaced all 4 parts, piston, spring, seal and bolt.Everything looked the same BUT the new spring was approx 1/16 " longer. The old spring was probably weak and had sacked slightly,no different than a snowmobile spring in a clutch.Dosent sound like much but i guess at idle wiby moresquirt - Main Forum
I have decided to try changing out the OIL PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE ASSEMBLY,which looks to include the shaft, seal, spring and piston. Its less than $40 and i believe the spring is lost some tension plus the piston could be worn or dirty and hanging up.If this is not the problem then its definately off to the dealer at $175/hr tx in.It cant hurt to try.Can someone advise what the torque would be on tby moresquirt - Main Forum
Well i started up the car this morning totally cold after an oil change yesterday and no change, still knocking coming from crank pulley, guess its going in, it may be nothing but its definately not the lifters or pulley related and its pretty loud so being proactive about maintenance i believe that if i do nothing and it ends up creating a much bigger problem i will be kicking myself.Thx for all rby moresquirt - Main Forum
Well i just changed out the oil, nothing in the filter and the oil looked actually pretty good coming out, nothing in the canister either. My car was manufactured in march 06 Finland so it probably got the update u mention, then again.I am going to let the car sit over nite and see how it sounds first thing tomorrow morning.Something maybe worth noting is the knock is only herd with a stone cold motby moresquirt - Main Forum
Motul 8100 excess 5w40 oil, will dump and refill, running som Seafoam thru the gas and oil before i dump, cant hurt i guess, tried test cold elevated with and without belt, its definately not pulleys .could it be oil pump relatedby moresquirt - Main Forum
Forgot to mention the car is an 06 boxster S with 6 speedby moresquirt - Main Forum
I currently have about 65000 miles on car,i have owned it for about 20000 off those.Up until now it has run great,i change the oil every 7000 miles with 5/40,its almost due for a change now.I noticed lately that when the car is stone cold or not driven since previous day that on startup there is a knocking noise coming from the motor which is pretty loud, definately not a light ticking that i getby moresquirt - Main Forum
woops wrong thread responce, sorryby moresquirt - Main Forum
Marc/Grant so do u feel that it would be better to change the oil prior to storage rather than after winter storage because of acis build up thru the running season. Do u think that water build up over the storage season 9 (winter) is a bigger problem than the acis created in the driving season.I only put 6000 miles on car a season and used to change the oil after the winter because off moistureby moresquirt - Main Forum
I currently have 60,000 miles on my 06 Boxster S and i do change the brake fluid every 3 years, apparently the clutch fluid is pulled from the same res a the brakes.Should it be bled out also or not really necessary and wait till im in there doing a clutch.Thx ps: cant find ant info in manual on change intervals for clutch fluidby moresquirt - Main Forum
I read somewere that the best think to do after a long storage is to pull the fuel pump fuse, crank the motor for say 5 seconds and then pop the fuse back in and start car. Is this worth doing or should i just start er up and not worry about it.by moresquirt - Main Forum
Pedro.just read your storge info, grat stuff, have a question on one item, why would u leave a manual tranny in gear rather than neutral.thx warrenby moresquirt - Main Forum
Guenter thats perfect thxby moresquirt - Main Forum
Hand cranking cannot be compared to a low idle.U cannot cause any problems with a slow hand crank but a low idle start for a fairly dry motor makes thing move to fast but not fast enough for proper oil pressure and therefore could cause more wear.I think there is a happy medium here.Thats why i believe most vechicles are designed to go into a high idle on cold start up .Porsche really richens upby moresquirt - Main Forum
Do u know were to purchase a set,may as well install some while bumpers off, hopefully can get something black that dosent stand out,i kinda like those large air intake openings, one off the changes from the older boxsters that i really liked.by moresquirt - Main Forum
How about just turning the crank slowly with some big adjustable wrench say 8 times,Would that not be better than having the motor crank real hard with no lube after it all drains down from sitting all winter.Pulling the fuel pump fuse is a good idea.have read that before and is good advise.by moresquirt - Main Forum
Still lots of winter left were i live, considering dropping the front bumper and cleaning the accumulated debrie behind the rads as seen on 986 posts. will the 987 have the same issues with buildup that the 986 has or did porsche change the design enough in 05 to avoid this problem. Viewed a post on cleaning behind rads on a 986 recently that blew my mind on the amount off buildup that can accumuby moresquirt - Main Forum
Sorry Eric, read it wrong,I actually almost purchased a 05 Boxster S that was Black ext and beigh int with 40k 19" rims, pasm, full electric heated seats and GPS screen for $34 grand but same as u i wanted a certain color ect,White with blue top and int, with 18" rims (better ride and less chance of rim damage) Gps not needed and prefered manual seats, less to break and a year newer, was always taughtby moresquirt - Main Forum
