arc, thats an interesting anology that hols some merit,i have always believed in not running the motor during storage to prevent condensation, but what if u cant drive the car because of snow, then all i can do is let it idle and rev it a bit.porsche clearly states in the manual not to do that, not sure why, maybe because the fuel mix is considerably richer at start up and that can wash the cylinderby moresquirt - Main Forum
Valid points,I do find it strange that a product can remove varnish but still be a lubricant, fire and water don,t mix but im no chemist,Ronsonol lighter fluid is a patrollium product and is used for removing gum, stickers and glue also,Naphla product so very similiar i makeup to seafoam i would think. The seafoam does work excellent for breaking down ethenol varnish gum ect and i can verify that wiby moresquirt - Main Forum
EricG thats an amazing deal on the 06 S,i purchased same car 2 years ago (private sale) and paid $31000,they were asking $35k.Even the wholesale value for tax purposes in canada was almost $25k.Thought i got great deal. It had 40k miles and was mint.US prices must be way better.I saw the same car Recently listed thru a dealer for $40k with 20kmiles (Phaff Porsche Toronto). They do ask top dollarby moresquirt - Main Forum
Used Stabil for years but found Seafoam to clean better and suppost to be good for 2 years storage as well BUT I did have a problem with it in my 2 stroke snowmobile, wahed the cylinders and warped the heads, not good, have never used on 2 stroke again,4 stroke should be ok but use it sparingly or 1 oz per gallon off gas,i would never add it to oil regardless off what they state. Whats Stabil made fby moresquirt - Main Forum
The Sefoam is made of Alchol and patrollium distillants .I believe it would burn off if any gets in to the oil via rings.by moresquirt - Main Forum
i have been adding a full bottle of Seafoam to a full tank every fall prior to storage and changing oil at same time.Any drawbacks to useing this stuff. It states that u can add to oil as well as tank,so with the flat six design some will surely enter the case and mix. They state in the site that no need to change out oil after adding to fuel only but that may be for a standard automobile engine dby moresquirt - Main Forum
Nice pic!! Warmed me rite upby moresquirt - Main Forum
Hey were in ontario are u located,i am in muskoka and still have 3 feet off snow on my roof, will winter ever end,i look at my boxster every day under the cover and can,t wait for spring, top down, wind in my hair, hot girl(my wife) sitting beside me for a cruise round muskoka.Ahh summer!!by moresquirt - Main Forum
Pedro,is it possible this 997 had the old single row IMSB.I read that some really early 06 Boxsters had the single row also. Please advise with a pic if possible after tear down. Was this car tracked or a daily driver. Thx ps:if this was an imsb issue with the new larger bearing many will want to know as i personally have not herd of any since the newer larger design.by moresquirt - Main Forum
I add a bottle off SEAFOAM fuel treatment every fall before storage to help with Ethenol and also keep the injectors clean, some off that will shurley find its way to the oil in the case due to the flat 6 design, maybe this will help with moisture as i am only 20 minutes in the car (all hwy) each way to work and the oil probably never gets hot enough to burn it off.Any negatives to adding this fuelby moresquirt - Main Forum
Marc,is that the original IMSB in your boxster.Thats really interesting info on the water in the oil, actually alarming!! I usually change my oil at end off season or late fall with about 10000 kilometers (6500 miles) Maybe an earlier change is required.I definately notice lifter ticking with a cold motor once i hit the 6000 mile mark.probably the water diluting the oil somewhat.Thx for the info.by moresquirt - Main Forum
Interesting info, thx Apparenty Porsche was useing the thick stuff, pulled my book out on my 06 and nothing thicker than a 5 weight showing under any conditions. Wonder why.I believe Pedro uses 20/50 i believe in his 99 and has a ton off miles and no problems even with IMSB. Wonder if thats the secret to IMS longevity. Oils to thick to seem thru the bearing seals.by moresquirt - Main Forum
The Castrol Edge 5/40 is good, been useing that now for 3 years (1 change per year) approx 6500 miles each change. What i noticed is after about 9000 kilometers (5500 miles) i start to get lifter noise, once i change it out,no more noise. This happens every time, not a one time thing. This year i changed to Motul 8100 X-cess 5/40 with more Zinc content. Will see how that holds up and report this fall aby moresquirt - Main Forum
Does it have an IMS bearing?by moresquirt - Main Forum
Probably stay with a 5/40 or 5/50.The porsche oil filter is paper and the micron size is probably designed around the oil viscositys they suggest meaning (to me) that if i go much thicker especially on the first number ,the oil will go thru the bypass if it can,t get thru the filter quick enough which could cause dirty oil or contaminants to enter the engine without being filtered atleast until tby moresquirt - Main Forum
Ok thx, have almost same mileage on mine now,it does use oil though, maybe a litre over 10000 kilometers (one summer),if i baby it no useage but if i hammer it alot usage goes up. I think thats an exceptabe amount. I know Pedro uses much heavier oil but hes Resides in Florida.I purchased car used at almost 70000 kil and previous owner was using 5w50,(saw the invoices) they only used the car in theby moresquirt - Main Forum
I do not run my car in winter at all. What would be a good Viscosity off oil to go with on my 06 Boxster S 3.2. I usually drive it from May 1 thru to Nov just before it starts to snow so temps rang from approx 5 degrees celcious to 90 degrees (40 f to 90 f) in peak off summer. No track use, usually around 1/2 hr to work each way all hwy.Thxby moresquirt - Main Forum
Thx Pedroby moresquirt - Main Forum
Whats the screw plug and were is it located, thxby moresquirt - Main Forum
Thanks Pedro, but i only see 2 plugs the drain at the bottom middle off tranny that i have to remove the wind deflector plate for and the fill plug at the top rear right side of tranny, weres the other plug and waht is it for thxby moresquirt - Main Forum
Can someone tell me the torque spec,s on the drain bolt and filler bolt for a 987 S 3.2 . Thx Warren ps:are there gaskets for each bolt or plug or can u reuse the originals?by moresquirt - Main Forum
i have yet to read about any 06 thru 08 Imsb problems. Are they on borrowed time, just lucky or were just not hearing about problems.I really want to address this issue but as far as i can see thease model years are not having the same issues. Maybe people are changing there oil more often now that the word is out and prolonging the issue.Internet and product awareness are better now and that alonby moresquirt - Main Forum
Thx,will cheak them out when i am down in the city (I live in Muskoka,Ont)by moresquirt - Main Forum
Wow!! Thats great info and example Pedro ,now if u could pull a 45 k ceramic bearing that had DOF from the start to compare that showed no wear u are going to have a really busy shipping dept Do u know any authorized Porsche private shops in Ontario Canada that could do this job.I called one and they never herd of the unit and even suggested not to do it or any IMS fix as they dont believe itby moresquirt - Main Forum
Thx Grant, will take that constructive info and hopefully sleep better.by moresquirt - Main Forum
Actually was not aware that i needed to pump it in thru the bottom till it comes out the top.Basically like a lower end unit for an outboard boat motor. Thx for the tip Pedro,is it just easier that way or is it more to do with air pockets being created filling from the top. Thxby moresquirt - Main Forum
Been using castrol 5w40 syntec for 3 years, change every 7000 miles approx, decided to change it to Motul 8100 extreme syn after reading some good reviews, got 60000 miles now and no problems as off yet but honestly this IMS stuff has kinda got me concerned and don,t enjoy the car as much as i should as its always in the back off my mind! Glad to here u have good results so far.by moresquirt - Main Forum
I have the 10 ml allen ,so i will order the Porsche stuff and do it in the spring, can,t hurt doing it a little early i guess.Pretty easy job also other than the drain plug has the aluminum sheild in the way and has to be removed but i decided that i would cut a 2 inch round hole and make the job easier, cant see that changing the aerodynamics any.by moresquirt - Main Forum
I now have about 60,000 miles and was wondering when i should change out the trans oi for my manual 6 speed , Porsche dealer tells me its lifetime oil and never needs changed.Whats lifetime? Have not had any issues with shifter or clutch as of yet. Ps:want to say hello to everyone,my first post on Pedros site, lone my boxster, will post a pic soon,it white with blue top and interior.
