My local dealer when I asked him about installing some aftermarket suspension parts he said "Sure I'll throw 'em on". They know a good part of their customers are enthusiasts and if they don't do the work, their customers will build a relationship with an indy... and then they are gone. They need this car for other reasons. You've heard me say this before.... my 2009 C2S is a rocket..... but a bit boring... big, fat and heavy. As they raise the price, they will lose their enthusiast market simply because the car is becoming too expensive jewelry. Posers make the money but enthusiasts make the brand. Don Rosen had it up on the rack...... actually, they went so far as replacing the sway bar links first... They took it for the test drive, and it still clunked. That is when Bill pulled out the chassis ears and made a more definitive diagnosis. Peace Bruce in Phillyby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
I will put big money that it is a control arm..... I replaced a bunch of these over the life of the car. I could only hear the clunking on rather smooth, undulating roads at low speeds.... parking lots etc. As you note, identifying the offending arm is pretty difficult. I put on miles faster than any one else my local dealer had seen so they had no experience base to judge the offending partby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
My 54 year old memory is starting to go...... but my indy hooked up the Porsche computer to my Boxster and we were watching live values. The values were swinging in a sine wave and he said this was showing weak and failing catalytic converters. He said the swing should be a straight line or very tight if they were healthy. When and if the values crested some threshold, the dash light would popby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum

That gearbox was like that when new and never really changed. Cold equals thick and yes cantankerous. My first winter with that car took some getting used to as I would regularly pop out of 2nd gear. Notice when you drop it into second, there is a two-stage feel to it. When ambient temps are say below 30 degrees, finding that second clunk takes a bit of effort to ensure you are in. Get this.... oh umm.... my friend called and told me this..... The insurance agent called and apologized and said the auto policy is NOT being dropped... she made a mistake and misinterpreted some internal stuff. The umbrella policy was dropped but the auto is "flagged" and one more violation will trigger cancellation. The umbrella and auto were not co-terminus contracts. I had two engines fail.... and while one was not the IMS, and the other was a possible, IMS failure but not known, I am justly paranoid. Therefore, it would be reasonable, to a paranoid me, to replace my IMS should I still own one of these cars. If I did own one, I would do it. Then comes the issue as to which one? You are correct in your analysis but...... let's say I want to pull the triggeby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
My friend noted that he got a "refusal to renew" from his insurance company and it listed the reasons as being citations and claims. The information is provided to the insurance companies via LexisNexis and you can obtain a report of what they have by going to www.consumerdisclosure.com. You are entitled to a free report. Oh, you know what that means..... oh ya,,,,, you know exactly what that means. OK, so ....... let's say you have this "friend". And that "friend" got a strange letter from their insurance company and had the words "assigned risk"...... What do you do? I need to know this so I can help my "friend". DC Automotive is a NC Porsche dismantler. They run trucks up and down the east coast picking up the carnage. Mileage on the car was irrelevant as was options, stereo, etc etc etc. One price, that was it. Peace Bruce in Phillyby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
That Mobil 1 if pretty free-flowing oil. If you read these comments (on all the forums) about needing oil to be hot to flow, you would think it is molasses at room temp. I can empty a bottle of cold Mobil 1 pretty darn quickly and completely. Just sayin' Peace Bruce in Phillyby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
I just took the car for a long drive and replacing the links removed the worst of it. But under certain types of bumps, there is something else sinister there. I guess I will have to wait until it gets worse to find this one. Peace Bruce in Phillyby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
Thanx Pedro for the torque specs on my sway bar links but I am such a dopey noob at this, I could not figure how to get my torque wrenches on the bolt! You have to hold a torx on the bolt to counter the rotation (I have a nice pass-through ratchet set). So I just tightened them up without over-forcing. Quick question: Why were the bolts on the links coated with something blue... like it was aby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
I did my oil change on tepid oil but did not move or start the car. Yes, I got distracted. Good point on suspended particulates (or is it particulants?). Now wouldn't these be filtered by the oil filter? The smaller stuff, metallic, should get stuck to my magnetic plug no? What else could be circulating in there? C'mon, feed my active mind! My rational for doing it on not-hot oil was thatby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
Situation: You had the car hot at full operating temperature and then parked the car where you are to do an oil change. Next day, why would you need to bring the oil up to temp again? Didn't everything drain out of the engine and is now sitting in the pan? Talk amongst yourselves...... Peace Bruce in Phillyby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum

To a kid (me) who grew up watching Lotus and Chaparelles race on Saturdays while I sat on the couch air shifting and making BrrrrrrrppppBRRGRRFPPPP! noises, um.... well..... .they are both automatics. Sorry. Paddle shifters, dual go-fasters, clutch pizzas..... I don't care how you define it or what ingredients are in that gear cake, they are automatics. Sounds totally OK, but.... My indy was talking about Lotuses and they had problems with their Toyota engines.... something about valve guide problems. Lotus diagnosed the issue as a too slow idle so they changed the software to increase the idle at startup for the purpose of getting more oil to the engine. My wife's Lexus roars up the RPMs when started and they sure seem high to me. So.... itby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
2000S at 47K miles After towing the car to the dealer, we started up the car.... slow to start but did and sounded awful... metal clanking... yikes! I visited the mechanic during the engine replacement and he said it didn't seem to be the IMS but he was not sure. He showed me the oil filter.... starry starry night..... full of chunks. Good luck. Per Bob's request...... this is not easy to do..... so I will start with a few bullet points now after owning my C2S for just over 1 year: 1 - 911 rear bias.... complete bunk in my book. I will re-write this after I do some DEs this spring, but for the most part, I can't barely feel it and I have been driving in all of this snow (albeit with Michelin snows). No kidding..... I had an '82 Datsun 280ZX turbo I stored in cave in Wampum PA. It was an old cement mine that had over 2 million square feet of storage and I stored my car there when I moved to Manhatten not knowing how long I would live there or would need a car. Well, almost 7 years went by...... I drove the car into the mine, removed the battery, and....... walked away. I may have putby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum

Herr Singer noted the car had a "spool". From what I can find, a spool means the differential is locked! Really? Someone edumacate me on this one. Why the heck would you want a car with sticky tires on pavement to have a locked differential? The are would push and not turn, so to speak. What am I missing?
