I have the factory reference manual for both of my cars and go by what it says. Neither one has any paste called for and this is pretty typical. To respond to someone about suitable cars available I did a search of used Caymans in my area and found a MY 2015 red one, base, with PDK (but not PCCB brakes which I had hoped to have on my next car). This car has around 10K miles with as it turns out --- I asked the dealer -- auto climate control and a CPO warranty. Tempting... The car is very nice, eye catching, and well, tempting. away from the direction of rotation to aid in expelling any gas that builds up/forms between the brake pad and rotor. The rotation of the rotor combined with the curve of the groove work to move the gas from the inner edge of the pad outward. So the front rotors are worn out at 26mm while the rears are worn out at 24mm. If that 25.01mm dimension is for the front rotors the rotors are worn past their limit and should be replaced. If that 25.01mm dimension is for the rear rotors you do not have to replace the rotors. New pads can be fitted if they are worn out but it is possible the rotors will wear undersized before the pads wear out.by MarcW - Main Forum
via a "standard" OBD2 PID if your car's DME supports PID $5C. This is "engine oil temperature". It is a 1 byte value: $0 to $FF and is the oil temperature in 1C per bit with a -40C offset. Thus $00 is -40C while $FF is 215C. Oil temperature might be obtained another way using a Service $9 Request Vehicle Information if the DME supports providing oil temperature in one of the Infotypes. The improvement is about on par with the improvement I noticed after I switched the Boxster from Shell V-Power to Chevron premium. I looked closer at the old filter today. The back -- clean -- side is intact and I banged this down on the sidewalk and saw nothing come through. I cut away the layer of foam on the top side. #8 is the control arm. See here: Just a heads up: The parts diagram is for MY's '97 to '04 but in the parts # list the control arm part # only starts with MY 2001. The task reminded me why I no longer like to work on cars. Managed to remember how to get the top in the service position and unclip the 2 cables from the car to let the back portion of the top fold up to kind of expose the engine compartment area. and he thought it might be a dirty MAF. Kind of caught me off guard. I like to say a MAF doesn't get dirty with a properly functioning engine air filtration/intake system. This is true but what the tech said is if the engine air filter is not changed often enough it can deteriorate after a while and allow dust through and this can contaminate the MAF. been replaced some years ago (mid 2009) in an attempt to deal with an intermittent no start (no crank) issue after the clutch interlock switch was replaced and the behavior continued though it occurred much less often and finally went away. (I can't recall if the clutch interlock switch was replaced again or if the tech bent the switch holder so the clutch pedal arm made better contact with the sby MarcW - Main Forum
Don't remember posting anything on this before but the Boxster has developed a new issue. The first symptom was the door lock LED on the dash coming on on its own. Concurrent with the LED coming on I never heard the door locks engaging. I would press the unlock button and the horn would sound and the LED would come right back on. The error code (nor any other error code) has made an appearance. We have had a spell of hot weather recently (yuck) and everything has gotten quite warm: fuel pump, MAF, and so on and the engine's been just fine. I think it *knows* I'm watching it. The MAF is the orignal MAF though it had about a 100K mile "vacation" when I mistakenly diagnosed it as bad and replaced it. When the replacement MAF failed then I went back to the orignal MAF. Only cleaned the MAF once and that was when I was attempting to diagnose what proved to be the 1st AOS failure. The MAF wasn't dirty and it had been in service around 80K+ miles. 2002 Boxster 2.7l. Driving in the heat (mid 90's) and downtown today and the CEL came on. What the heck is that doing on? Except for the CEL no signs of any engine trouble. Back at home I pulled the code. P1128: Oxygen sensing adaptation range 3 (cylinders 1-3) enrichment limit. Air intake leak. Fuel pressure too low. Fuel injectors contaminated. I have had a Cayenne loaner and a Macan loaner and even an Audi SUV loaner once (the Porsche dealer is owned by a company that owns a number of other dealers all located next door to each other and once in a while a Porsche customer will get an Audi loaner if there are no Porsche loaners available). The Macan was a 4 cylinder diesel. The Cayenne was I think a gasoline V8. Don't recall what enginby MarcW - Main Forum
