Quoteoldhoo07s Marc, thanks for your input. There is no CEL. I have not checked for error codes - I will check this weekend when I will have opportunity to do so, I have a Durameteric (not pro). I will also check the sensor to see if there are any loose connections. But I ask that anyone who can, please add to my limited knowledge as how to best access the sensor with no lift - passenger side, reby MarcW - Main Forum
Quoteoldhoo07s I am experiencing similar symptoms as MarknearChicago in my 2007S Boxster with 36K miles. Always starts fine when cold. But when road temperature hot and after being off for 5 to 10 minutes the engine will crank, will fire what seems to be once or twice but then cuts off. After 3 or 4 attempts like this the engine starts up and runs fine with no issues. Could this be a crank positiby MarcW - Main Forum
QuoteBarryL The tech did not have any thoughts about the shuddering, only that if it were a transmission, it would be around $3500 to get a used one installed. The shuddering is not that bad at this point, more an irritation. I have been waiting for it to get worse before garaging the car. It almost feels like when you are stalling out a car with low rpm's, so if I keep the rpms up, seems to notby MarcW - Main Forum
QuoteBarryL Oil removed from cylinders, new AOS, sparkplugs and oil/filter. My indy said to expect burn off of oil for awhile, and when I drove home from the shop, particularly on startup, quite a burn off. My indy is going on vacation and didn't have time to check out the low speed shudder issue I was having on this visit. The new spark plug replacement did not fix this. QuoteJMstamford,ct The MAF seems the most obvious culprit. I am a little surprised the dealer has not checked that. To satisfy your self, either replace - it is a very easy job. Or find a known good one and swap. It is a rather easy job but the MAF isn't cheap. Still, if the MAF is bad it is bad. The CEL came on again yesterday and sure enough P1128 again. This time the long term trims wereby MarcW - Main Forum
While Anker puts it a bit strong I'm with him. The issue of the system losing coolant is minor compared to the issue of the system unable to hold pressure when the coolant is hot. It is the pressure that keeps the coolant from boiling once it reaches 212F. (If the radiator fans come on on their own the coolant is at 212F.) This lack of pressure control can allow steam pockets to form in the hby MarcW - Main Forum
QuoteBarryL This will be my 4th AOS. Like in your case, my mechanic didn't expect there to be a problem in getting this cleared and back on the road. He said there is a lot of inaccurate hype on the internet that this type of event destroys engines. It came on so fast, without warning and I shut it down pretty soon, but not immediately as I was in on highway 1 coming up the coast and it took me 3by MarcW - Main Forum
I have a plug kit at least one in one of the cars, probably the 996 Turbo as it comes from the factory with an air compressor to inflate the space saver spare tire. Also, I have a nearby tire store that will plug/patch the tires too. The trouble is like with Boxster tire the hole was too close to the side wall. Fortunately the tire warranty covered this tire. In the case of the Turbo I drove tby MarcW - Main Forum
My 2002 Boxster suffered something similar although at the hands of the tech when I had it in for what proved to be the first AOS replacement of 3 (so far). The lock up occurred while the car was in for the AOS replacement. Not sure of the circumstances now. (I recall being told the lock up occurred during a compression test. A compression test was apparently "SOP" in these cases which is insaneby MarcW - Main Forum
3000 to 5000 miles? Man oh man, you have worse luck than me. My tire problems seem to come in waves. No issues for so long I can't remember the last time then boom. A tire issue then often another. And sometimes even a 3rd. (Some few years back the Turbo picked up a nail. Got a new tire under the road hazard coverage the tires had at the time an even though the tires had around 20K miles. and all 3 times the engine has smoked something fierce. That smoking appears to be the end stage failure of the AOS. It is important to note that when the smoking becomes constant it is time to shut off the engine and avoid even starting the engine. Might mention that with the 1st AOS I had the car flat bedded to the dealer -- the SM I spoke with over the phone specifically cautioned me *againstby MarcW - Main Forum
Service managerment told me the tire supplier is getting slow sometimes in delivering tires. A "promised" delivery of "next day" often turns out to mean "a couple of days". In this case the tire was I was told promised sometime Tuesday but didn't arrive until too late Wednesday to get it mounted. But the tire was mounted sometime Thursday and I picked the car up Friday. but with the code not written down somewhere, RennTech.org has a "thread" that if one posts the info about his radio -- I don't recall what's necessary but the thread has a post that states what is required -- Loren will respond with almost certainly the right code. I posted to this thread to get the code for my radio and I didn't have to wait very long. Here's a link to the thread: Just aby MarcW - Main Forum
Quotegrant Hi Folks, I think I'd like to get rid of the squish in my car - the rubber bushings that allow large amounts of deflection. Aside from feeling it, i was startled ot see just how much my alignment settings distort when i place modest pressure on them with a pry bar, with an alignment system active. Yikes! QuoteMA122-NA Hello all, I'm a complete first timer to this forum. Purchased a new 2016 Cayman Black Edition recently at a very good price. Have never owned Porsche before, but plenty of Benz. Have read that Porsche windshield washer fluid from the factory will freeze (I live where it snows and car is outside a few days a week). Saw on some other forums where people drain their washer tanks bby MarcW - Main Forum
Getting sick of this. Not too long ago the Turbo left rear tire picked up a nail and I had to have both rear tires replaced. The other day spotted a low left front tire on the Boxster and sure enough at the dealer the SA spotted a nail head showing real close to the sidewall. (At the dealer service drive where I had parked the car it just so happened the nail head was visible.) I'm not alone Iby MarcW - Main Forum
QuoteBoxsterra TL;DR Try swapping your MAF with someone else's. If it fixes the problem, you know what to buy. Don't spend over $200 for a replacement. Here are some fuel trim concepts that may help: - Positive means it's adding fuel (you'd think it would mean it's "trimming fuel" but that would be too easy to remember) - Short-term fuel trims are additive with long-term ones. QuoteJohn from MN in MN, Non - Oxy is available mostly for boats, classic cars, and small engines, but it's tougher to find. I'm lucky in that I have 3 stations near me that carry it. I've been using it in the Boxster because I feel it's better for the car than ethanol. I can find the ethanol blend in Top Tier and boost the octane to 92, non top Tier I can find at 93. QuoteJohn from MN Interestingly, I did try the techron many miles ago and the light went off, BUT returned 500 miles later. I've tried everything suggested here, but nothing works - hence the mystery. The car seems to be running perfectly and the dealer says there are no leaks, exhaust, intake, or otherwise. QuoteRick J (Nashville, TN) Hi Marc, I hope all is well. I seem to recall someone saying that the coke bottle wind sound is possibly related to something in the evaporative emissions control system. I used to notice this sound from time to time--at slower speeds--on my '00 S. It seems like it originated from the passenger side (outside the car somewhere). very intermittent. I have not been able to reproduce it at will. If the noise was any more sporadic or intermittent I'd almost be willing to put it down to my imagination. More recently when I have heard it I half think it is top wind noise or possibly tire noise. But before you go much further my recommendation is to have an experienced Porsche tech road test the car and advise you. He should be able to distinquish between a stumble/hesitation caused by the engine vs. one caused by a misbehaving Tip. Assuming it is engine related, any pending error codes?by MarcW - Main Forum
my 2002 Boxster triggered its CEL and the error code was P1128. This is I think the 3rd event over the last month or more. I date logged the engine and the error didn't happen. I stopped data logging and the error happens. I can find no possible explanation for the error in my car's case. The AOS was replaced back in mid-2014. OIl cap was replaced not too many months ago and is not leaking. I cby MarcW - Main Forum

with retirement close. My full retirement age will be my next birthday but I was hoping to continue working a while longer. I toy with the idea of buying something Porsche, something new, but both of my cars are running pretty darn good. There is little resale/trade in value in either car so anything I buy would have to come out of my bank account. The other thing that concerns is I bought a neby MarcW - Main Forum
A brother-in-law's car had bad wheel bearings and it was clear just going down the road the bearings were bad. The only confirmed time my Boxster had a bad wheel bearing the noise was not changed when turning. It was with some uncertainty he replaced the rear wheel bearing we both felt was the culprit. Fortunately we guessed right. I've made no progress in diagnosing the noise. In fact I've notby MarcW - Main Forum
Quotegrant Having been through a few lately, wheel bearings tend to be very subtle until they are very, very bad. That said, they really *should* get much louder under load, meaning weaving. Admittedly this is clearer in the front than in the rear. I assume you have eliminated anything in the induction system that is motor speed dependent. Also look at the CV joints - they can make some odd,by MarcW - Main Forum
From my 2002 Boxster. Best I can describe the noise is it sounds like a low volume "coke" bottle sound. Only hear it with windows down at around 35mph in either 2nd or 3rd gear. Not affected by light application of brakes or by weaving side to side. I've heard it on several different stretches of road so I don't think it is road surface dependent. Tires are relatively new with at most 5K miles oby MarcW - Main Forum
Quotegrant I have to push my clutch pedal harder and harder to start the car. I'm told the switch fails, and messing with alignment, unless obviously moved, is not productive. Any tip on access etc., and, what is the p/n so I can order one? TIA, Grant The part # I don't recall. And the part # could be different if Porsche has upgraded the switch.
