Biggest issue I am having is actually getting the sensors off- 170K miles of heat on the exhaust has them locked in there good.by Ollie - Main Forum
I checked the oil cap as you suggested- no real help. I think at this point given 170K miles on the O2 sensors I am going to replace all of them even if they are not the cause of my issues (although I strongly suspect they are). I will post back after I change them and let you know if they fix. Will pick up new oil cap also even thouigh does not seem to be issue as it is also the original oiby Ollie - Main Forum
Should have mentioned I checked oil fill cap by taking it off car ran crummy- put it back on ran fine. The P0150 is same as P0130 except for Bank 2- I am leaning toward O2 sensors are on their way out/close to dead. Only thing I hesitate on is the idle hunting, can an O2 sensor cause this? Could bad/dieing O2 sensors cause the P1124 &1126 codes? (Seems likely to me as O2 feedback will effeby Ollie - Main Forum
I've got a problem... Originally getting codes: P1124 Manufacturer Controlled Fuel And Air Metering P1126 Manufacturer Controlled Fuel And Air Metering Other symptoms: unsteady idle, Stalling suddenly when HOT (like after several autocross runs) but starts right back up. Otherwise running really well. No drop in gas milage. No driveability issues Checked ICV- seems good. I had already boughtby Ollie - Main Forum
Need some miles- bring it to Devens on the 20th for NER event so we can check it out. Good picture oportunity with Scruffy & Charles. Yellow, Kermit Green & White W/ red trim WOWby Ollie - Main Forum
THANKS- I put in a new O2 sensor and failed inspecton for not being ready... guy at the inspection shop told me I needed to put 150 miles on it, didn't sound rightby Ollie - Main Forum
any know how many miles you need to drive after re-seting the CEL till ok for inspection?by Ollie - Main Forum
Agree- I pulled the TB last night and it was dirty to the point the butterfly seemed a little sticky cleaned it up good. ICV felt smooth with no sticking but cleaned it anyway. Sprayed more starter stuff after I got it all back toether and still no reving. I took the car home last night and drove it to work today... idle holding steady. No pending codes yet, I suspect I will see them soon. I didby Ollie - Main Forum
So i went to my buddies house started it up cold- noticed a little hunting for idle...kind of makes sense for a air leak. Sprayed engine starter but noticed no change. I pulled the tube off the AOS and found oil. Not sure how much is normal and how much is to much... but, at the end that goes into the intake there was a puddle of oil sitting there NOT just a coating... Thoughts?by Ollie - Main Forum
Friend of mines 99 (all stock- original owner) decided to through 2 codes today: P1124- Manufacturer Controlled Fuel And Air Metering P1126- Manufacturer Controlled Fuel And Air Metering He tells me limited codes have been thrown during life of car- 1 for gas cap and 1 for MAF- other than that he can not recall any other codes Am I looking for a air leak here?by Ollie - Main Forum
Agree 100%- had this been 3/4 yrs ago I would never have attempted this- but car getting old and driven VERY hard so...by Ollie - Main Forum
You are correct- the silver metallic is a real bitch to paint. I am finished, first time with metallic paint. Came out fairly good, but hey, with 175K on her and all the autocross/track time she see's (ie Track Mule)by Ollie - Main Forum
I found severaL doors but everyone of them needed work/paint anyways. So i fgured what the hell, it's got 170K miles on it fix it myselfby Ollie - Main Forum
Thanks- agree prep is the key to any good repairby Ollie - Main Forum
98 Artic Silver Metallic I noticed that if I were to buy a "New" part from Porsche it comes primed in "WHITE" Should white be the primer color I choose? or would someone painting a new part put another primer color over the white before paint I am fixing a door but not real sure what to do for primer...by Ollie - Main Forum
May sound like a stupid question but just don't want to do anything stupid. Drivers door is off the car & I want to move the car- I know I will set off the air bag light but is there anything else that can happen? I can't think of anything BUT...by Ollie - Main Forum
I broke a part- looks like it is called a guide tube (Solid piece that parking brake cable feeds through just before it eneters the brake area) Before I go pulling yanking etc is this part just pressed in... Looks it me but wated to make sure so I don't destroy anything Thanksby Ollie - Main Forum
Cleared the codes and headed out for 50 mile trip to buddies 98 that is in storage for winter... P1124 & P0102 back on within 4 miles. I have shut the codes off 3X and pop back on within 5 miles.of driving each time. Swaped known good MAF in & have put on 70 miles with no codes. Going to order new MAF and see what happens but looks like MAF is the issueby Ollie - Main Forum
Interesting- Being an engineer in the Microelectronics industry I can understand the extra testing & cost impact- especially when you consider the large counterfit market within the electronics industry right now. Yesterday I found the web site below. It lists Bosch OEM for $215. It also has Aftermarket New MAF for $94 and a remanufactured MAF for $66 plus $15 core. All with a 12 month warraby Ollie - Main Forum
Not argueing here just talking through this- I looked for obvious air leaks as I agree 1124/1126 can be caused by leaks, oil cap seems fine, radiator cap new this year. Pumped some smoke in looking for leaks could not find anything or hear anything. AOS has 28K miles on it- have no obvious smoke typical of AOS failure & and pulled connection and see no oil build up typical of a failing AOS. Sby Ollie - Main Forum
I cleaned mine twice but codes come back. Cleaning is a hit or miss thing- First time I had codes pointing at MAF many years (& miles ago) I cleaned it and no issues for almost 2 years after that. Are you getting any other syptoms aside from the code?by Ollie - Main Forum
Right now P0102. When I erased codes recently was getting P1124/1126/0102- I have not put many miles on and first code to come back was P0102.by Ollie - Main Forum
I am throwing some codes that point me to a bad MAF. Issue is this MAF only has 7 to 8K miles on it. This is only the 3rd MAF I have put in and my car has 165K miles on it. With this few miles on this MAF compared to the first 2 could I be looking at another issue that looks like a bad MAF or do some go this quickly? I cleaned it 2X but codes come back. 98 2.5L 165K milesby Ollie - Main Forum
Ed B- I will give it to to look at, if Hoosiers and hard driving, why only the rt- we alternate directions... Bill C has replaced RT Rear 6 times and none of his other bearings... I find that real interesting I have run Timken as FAG bearings in there with the same results, maybe I should run Duralast at half the price LOL I do heat the housing and freeze the bearing- have a 12 ton press YESby Ollie - Main Forum
I keep losing the right rear wheel bearing on 98 Boxster. The axel nut is properly torqued to 340 ft-lbs. This is the 5th time I will be replacing it, the other 3 have been replaced 1 time only. Anyone care to tell me what is going on???? I have 166K miles on itby Ollie - Main Forum
