A quick search of the boards shows an awful lot of criticism for Vertex rebuilt products. The consensus is that their prices are VERY cheap and that you get what you pay for. Others say, they are fine so long as you are willing to return bad work. They DO apparently stand by their warranty, but that is because they know how they put the stuff together. There were no positive reviews. Bottomby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum

I wonder what caused it to deteriorate in the first place. I pretty much baby the car. I just replaced the front brakes for the first time @ 65,000 miles. During the work I discovered the damage. It was a big surprise as I understood those to basically be solid rubber and nearly indestructible... Obviously not. I will be giving the car a complete once over after I do the CV repair. I spoke to Pelican today. They said that '00 shafts are not serviceable. You can replace the boots or the the interior CV's If the exterior is bad, you must replace the whole thing. I can replace the boots with ancillaries for appx $30.00. The issue is whether there was contamination. He said, basically just do it, it is not too likely contaminated. If you get in there and see problems, yoby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
How can you really determine if there is contamination? If the parts were $200 like on my Saab, I just replace with new. At $900 that calculus changes right away. Plus, I don't want to get into the job and then get stuck half done. In addition, I do not want to do the job twice. I know - for certain, that If I replace the whole assembly, I am good for a long while. I am certain I can do thby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
But I don't want to cheap out for no good reason.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
It worked out OK. But then again, it was a $200 car. In my Saab and my wife's Ford, it was WAY easier to replace the whole assembly. Generally, I prefer to know that there is no grit etc in the bearing. It would be the worst thing to do this job twice.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
As I was doing brakes, I found the driver's side, front bump stop ripped in two pieces. It looks like the bottom separated from the top. Both pieces remain on the strut shaft. I think I cannot just leave this can I? No symptoms, just visualized the problem. To fix I have to open up the strut. Right? THis ain't gonna be inexpensive.... Thoughts.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
It is on the passenger side, external CV joint. It looks like the boot was mounted a little skewed from the factory which created stress. It ripped at some point recently. There is greas all over the inside circumference of the wheel. The good news is that it looks clean with debris on it. So it must not have happened too long ago. So now how to fix. I read Pedro's instructions. I read thby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I picked up Automobile Magazine for a recent plane flight. The one with the proposed 718 on the cover. In the review, the Magazine suggested that the original plan was to insert the 718 as a $40K four cylinder. The Cayman would be above and the Boxster between the Cayman and the 911. Then they said that the changes in plans by the likes of Alfa Romeo and Mazda are causing a rethink. They sugby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
$152 shipped for the pair. They are the base z coated.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
at autohausaz they are relatively inexpensive.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
So I went looking. I found a VAST disparity in pricing etc. In particular I found RAYBESTOS These seem to be coated etc. I can get them for like $50 a corner. Now I am not one to cheap out on things like brakes, but came someone tell me why zimmerman rotors are twice the price? I actually found some rotors for $15 per corner. NOT A JOKE. But that really does seem to be too good to be truby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
where is the consensus best place to obtain the same. BTW - I am using Pagid black pads. I bought several sets years back when they had a sale. I also need a few niggling things which will likely need to come from a dealer, but rotors are a separate line item.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
There are a couple of UK sites that claim to have compatible software, but they charge and who knows if it is viable? Why dod you need PCMCIA cards if you have a USB cable? I also have a paralel port cable. It seems that so long as the cable will retrieve the output, it is just a matter of interpreting - no?? I am clearly no expert.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
can I get PIWIS software someplace to make it work on the Boxster? I have a 2000 2.7. I have a standard OBD tester, but I would like to be able to do things like graph and reach Porsche specific codes. I am hoping the 15+ year old software is out there someplace.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Long time poster and TSBL afficianado - Gundo, invited me, my wife and several others to the Porsche rollout of the new Macan. It was a great time for all of us to catch up. It was also cool to checkout a pre-production Macan. I hear that Stefan was instrumental in setting up the event. Thanks to both of them.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
It is what it is. The purchasing decision was as much about the lack of alternatives as anything else. Many of the issues I knew about before I bought the car. Frankly, I bought the 2011 because I could not fin ANY newer car that I would tolerate (within reason). It minimally met my needs. (auto trans- wife needs to drive it. It carries me, my wife and the three kids at the same time. It iby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum

I have had good luck with leaving the car all closed up with the heat blasting full bore after previously using the wet dry vac to get as much as I could.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I thought it was more than a bit odd that he would denigrate his dealer's car. Then again, maybe they have a Porsche dealer too. But I don't think so. The Porsche dealer is Penske. This isn't. They fixed a bunch of little (and not so little) things. The gear shift delaminated, the mirror fell off the windshield, the outer mirror covers were improperly seated, there was a problem with the wiby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I brought my BMW 328i in for service and to fix random niggles. One of the things that has driven me nuts is the transmission. Basically, there is a huge hesitation when you step on the gas from a stop. I brought it in once before to have it checked and it still drove me nuts. So on to visit # 2. The service manager drove the car. He said it is normal and that is how the car is set up. BMWby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum

He past away 7 years ago this July 1. It has been some time since I thought about him. In fairness, we never met. But it felt like we knew him. His passing was a tragedy. I thought he is worth remebering. So I posted.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Before Pedro saved us, there was a Boxster Board. PPBB a/k/a Porsche Pete's Boxster Board. That board ceased operation a few years back. For a time, the archives were around and searchable. I went to look for something over the weekend, but I couldn't get into the archives. Are all of those posts still out there someplace? I am sure they are getable with a professional historical search butby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Once the water evaporated, it left the deicing portion of the fluid behind - I guess. That was indeed very much like coolant. I suspect it was essentially some sort of antifreeze In any event the washer tank split on the seam which is right at the frontmost part of the tank. I suspect it actually touched the plastic liner around the front wheel. I can't imagine any other reason that tank wouby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Almost certainly coolant. It is water soluable. It did not evaprorate over the entire week and maintains a slippery feel. It doesn't smell like glycol though. I can't tell the source without removing panels. Guess what I am doing after lunch....by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
