This is a MUCH more significant job. It also looks like I may have to buy the upgraded part with the electrical part already installed. Is that correct? Pelican estimates 4 hours to complete the job. Is that a real number? I do not see any instuctions about transferring the immobilizer pill. Is that in the key/tumbler area which is pulled with the paperclip? Looking at the instructions, Iby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
So this may now become a more significant problem. Are there instructions to replace the "pistol" somewhere? At this point, the spring pin is more of a nuisance than anything else. I suspect eventually it will become an actual problem. That said, I am going to wait for warmer weather to deal with this.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Some weeks back, I posted about a problem with my key/ignition switch. After driving the car, I pull the key and (most times) there a a tubler which falls with an audible click/clunk. Immediately after it the radio turns off and you a re able to reinsert the key. Lately, the tumbler has taken more and more time to click/clunk. I am waiting to exit the car and the radio is still playing. I caby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
In recent weeks, I have been having an issue with the car. Not sure if it is a problem or what. I drive into the driveway (or wherever) turn the car off and remove the key. The radio stays on. Usually it is, say, ten seconds and I hear a clunk in the key area and the radio goes off. During this time, I cannot re-insert the key. Today, this process took several minutes. and Merry Christmas to you too. Is the Boxster a present to yourself? If so, the gift that keeps on giving. Welcome to permagrin.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Well, isn't racing an inherently dangerous activity with respect to all the mechanicals? You run any motor at the top of its performance envelope, you are likely to get breakage - and it is no one's fault. How could anyone warrant a race motor? Now if you are not going to race it, that is something else. In this case though - it seems apparent that it is an experimental deal, you are pushingby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum

if the issue is the balance of pressure on either side of the IMS shaft. Couldn't another solution be to find a channel for the pressure balance other than through the bearing? Perhaps if there was a hole in the IMS shaft itself or a channel past the outer rim of the IMS bearing. I cannot visualize this and I am not an engineer or even a science guy. In another point, I have seen the oil chanby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I am not going to run out and get rid of my car. I am considering the DOF or like. The issue is not whether to make an upgrade, but when. I might ust bite the bullet and upgrade without an obvious needed repair. I was just reporting on the engine failure. My take is that my friend is extremely frustrated. I doubt he abused the car or failed to maintain the oil. He is also not the type to exaby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
But he is suggesting that he read about bearing failures on several of the boards. But not having heard anything about it in my travels.... As always, I just listen and report. It still sounds like an IMS to me. If that bearing failed, and the pistons hit the valves, it is entirely possible that the crank would be seriously damaged. He did also mention the supposed issue with the RMS - thatby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
a few weeks back I posted about a friends engine failure. originally it was thought to be IMS. Still might be. He has just finished the tear down and it appears there are a couple spun main bearings. Also, the crank is seriously out of spec. He believes the bad crank caused the other problems. He is now in the process of having the crank redone. He seems to think that bearing problems areby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
For several years, I drove an old 1966 VW bug with a 6 volt battery. The lights were not the best - to be charitable. I could see decently well. But it was far from optional. Others had problems seeing me though especially in traffic. What this suggested to me is the more light the better. Up to the point where it becomes a danger for others. The test with the video suggests that the throttle stuck. Umm, No clutch? Something is wrong; there is too short a lead in for him to be accelerating that fast. I suppose it could be WOT. Still, once he felt it, why would ne just put both feet in? I know - easy for me to say.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I use my fog lights all the time. They are low and peripheral and do not harm anyone else. I find it makes a difference no matter what the weather. For my money, I want as much light coming out the front of my car as I can - within reason. So, for instance, I do not use high beams in traffic, which seems to be a popular option around here. I do not use the rear fog light, simply because I doby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I am not sure I would buy one -- even with someone else's money. I have like 4 remote controls to run my TV and I hate that too. The last thing we need is more friggin gadgets in our cars.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
But I think you answered my question. All points DO seem to lead to a bad (or going bad) O2 sensor.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
If you spend that kind of money, you probably take care of the car.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I am confused.... Why would having a magnet be a problem? Several of my older cars had magnets on the drainplug. Unfortunately, I would sometimes have "hair" on the plug. I was happy not to have that circulating. So again ??? I am completely missing how such a plug could do harm.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I have been running since Thurs with the cleared codes. Nothing. It might be that the IM readiness stuff is still playing out, but whatever it is, it is not condition critical. But I want to be clear, these codes are suggestive of O2 problems and nothing else? The sensors are clearly the most obviousl thing, but since they are like $100, I don't want to be just throwing parts at a problem.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Now I just need to win the lottery to pay for it. Maybe need to think again.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
The car has around 60K. If the code comes back, I will swap the sensors. that seems to make good sense. If I am going to replace either of them, it makes sense to change them both at the same time. That said, 60k seems a little early to start having problems. As a result, I am a little concerned that it might be something other than the O2 sensorby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
First time so I will probably clear and monitor. That said, it looks like the codes suggest a bad O2 sensor. Is there more to it than that?by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum

The engine is done, the suspension done and the bodywork done. Heading to paint. I agree with your taste.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I know that typically "auction site" stuff is nogo. But I saw this. 14 years ago, this was a twin of my car. I hope someone saves it. This condition is near criminal. Also note, the seller has no idea what he has.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
