If I implied that my car was the one with the fault, my apologies. It was my mechanic's personal car. Ultimately he had the crank shaft re-engineered locally and rebuilt the engine with new bearings etc.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
will be worth about $2,400. Of course I don't know the options etc of your car, but Sheesh. You could hit a pothole and total the car.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
One wonders what the insuracne value would be.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
the fluid is not evaporating. Or at least not in an observable way. I think that eliminates washer fluid.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
with the main bearings - aparently. The crankshaft supports too much weight at the flywheel and - some say - that is a defect which results in spun bearings. I had not heard this before, however my mechanic is fixing this issue right now on a 1999 model.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I agree that I will have to get it on the ramps and get under there. I just have not had time to do it with my schedule. It seemed like a VERY odd place for a leak. Still does. But there are so many lines going front to back who knows. I thought it could be power steering. Perhaps there is a cooler for that? I don't think so, but .... I am searching I know.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Greetings. In my continuing saga to bring the Boxster out for spring, I noticed a pink fluid leak. The fluid seems a oily, but it is pretty thin - perhaps coolant?. The leak is coming from directly below the A pillar on the drivers' side. I have a 2000, 2.7, Std shift. I have not had a chance to get it up in the air and see exactly where the fuid is coning from, but it has created a littleby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I left the car idling for a couple hours with a couple of spins onto and off the hwy in the mix. The battery seems to have recovered for the moment. Today will be the test. With all the rain, I did not drive it all week.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I never heard of that we will see. I clutch started the car and drove around for a while, then left it to idle for an hour or so. I will see today if it held the charge. I really don't hink it will. The battery IS several years old and it DOES have long periods of little use in the winter. (and now with 3 kids - other times too).by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
My autozone Duralast battery lasted quite some time. So I am a believer and would be happy to replace. That said, they no longer make the 48-D or 48-DL according to the sales guy I spoke to. They have a new substitute. I suspect it is trial and error and I can just drive over there and change the thing, but it is always better to know in advance.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I have a 2000 2.7. I replaced the battery some time ago with a Duralast 48-D. It has been dependable for at least 5 years, but it might be 8. In any event, the battery has been complaining lately, and today it was flat. I am going to charge it just to see, but I am pretty sure I am due for a replacement. Autozone no longer makes the 48-D. I seem to recall various fitment issues based uponby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
The dealer advised that it can be disabled. He said that in the first two minutes in the car. Because that was a dealbreaker for me. Other things that bothered me were the turn signals, the joystick gearshift, (in the 5) the electric e-brake, the fact that I could not operate the car at all without 10 minutes of instructions. I liked the feel of the 4 as compared to the 6. I could not tell yby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
It is not a wagon, it is a hatch, but it is bigger than a 5 series. I would have considered it, except it had the joystick control that I absolutely hated. I am no fan of the I-drive either, but that is a different matter. I would not keep one of those even if I received it for free. Perhaps the stick would be viable? In any event, do not discount that hatch next time you go searching- assumiby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
It is probably not fair to compare a sports car to a family sedan. But that is what BMW purports to do all the time. I bet there are a lot of cross shoppers.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
It is an E90. Power is not the issue. The car has plenty. It is all the collateral stuff. Stuff you don't notice the first week. Like Gongs. Like the self dimming mirror that you can't undim. Stuff like the crappy radio reception. To be fair, I drove 10 or so cars and disliked all of them - more or less. This car I disliked less than most. It was also the least expensive by a lot. The car was mangled and burnt. But they can say definitively that no mechanical or electrical issue contributed? That seems like an overstatement. I suspect they will ultimately say no evidence of mechanical or electrical issue. Bottom line - 90 mph in a 45. Pro speeds amatuer driver. Adds up to a very bad day.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
And I never expected it to feel anything like a Boxster. But I prefer (I think) my partner's chevy cruze to this thing. There is too much that is just plain dumb. There is more that is disappointing. The radio in my 1995 Chevy is 3 times better than the one in this car for instance. My Saab, the one I basically rebuilt to my specs, is a much more enjoyable car to drive. Is it objectively beby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
but the basic ergonomics are bad enough. I feel like i am driving a great big heavy laptop rather than a car. In fairness, I have not taken a 3+ hour drive yet. Maybe it will grow on me. The problem might very well be that I am spoiled. I suspect so. How can I settle after driving nirvana?by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
(There is Porsche content) In January, I bought a certified 2011 BMW and I wanted to share my thoughts - thought actually - because it is the same or similar everyday. Every morning, I open the door, slide the key fob thingy into the key fob thingy holder, push the start button and the BMW turns over. I am immediately bombarded with about 10 chimes, gongs and go-go lights on the dashboard. Toby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
It is not in the intake per se. It is somewhere around the brake booster. I ocassionally get a hiss sitting at a light. It is very interrmittent. But I would like to trace it. I know it is not the booster itself - that I can see. I am assuming it is a line or connection.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I have a vacuum leak in my saab, which I am trying to track down. But I have a problem. Usually, the vacuum comes from the intake. So I just crack the propane torch and run it along the lines and wait for an increase in RPM. The Saab is turbochrcged so the intake is under pressure not vacuum. So, how do turbo cars make vacuum? How do you trace a vacuum leak in a turbo car?by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
But we don't know the source of internet parts.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
yes - $50. I picked it up at the local VW dealer. That was the cost including shipping which had to be paid in advance. If'n I got rooked - well - I suppose I have come to expect it from dealers. I saw cheaper on the net, but that much disparity gives me concerns all by itslef.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
1) If you have any kind of substantial vacum leak, the engine management would kick in fairly quickly. You would get unmetered air in the combustion chamber which would trigger something pretty quickly. You can probably check for that in another way by looking at real time numbers on a code reader. Look at the long term and short term fuel trims and report your findings here. Those numbers wiby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
No. That is why I said I will double check. Then again, right now the car is buried under snow, so it will not be soon that I double check - or perform the repair. Given the alternative, however, I probably would have preferred to do the job once @ $150, rather than spending the $50 (including shipping) for the electrical part, which might turn out to be useless if I do have to replace the pisby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Thanks - I will double check. But there are no electrical gremlins, it is just the clunk sound being significantly delayed.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
