Top down commute home last night. At a stop light, a Tesla Model 3 rolls up next to me. When the light changed, the dude floored it. Wow, the acceleration was unbelievable. The lack of sound even made it more so. At the next light I roll up to him. Again, he floors it and takes off. Just as amazing the second time around. So, those who say they will miss the sound, maybe not initially. Iby db997S - Main Forum
That would be one fun toy. Only problem, Boxsters are such great cars for road trips, which is a weakness of EVs. But, I'd love to hit the twisties in one, especially if they could keep the 50/50 weigh balance. All that torque in a perfectly balance car, with such a low center of gravity. Sorry, had to wipe the drool off my key board.by db997S - Main Forum
Crazy time of year. Can still get a large snow dump, but the nice thing, March snow does not linger. Glad you got some top down driving in.by db997S - Main Forum
Odd, whenever an new car shows up in our garage at work, people always seem to pop into my office and ask bout it (they know I drive a Porsche). Unfortunately, today, when somebody asked if I saw the new Porsche Turbo in the garage (Miami Blue, ceramic breaks, yellow belts, etc), I had to tell the sad tale. About two years a go, a coworker's husband was diagnosed with an illness. He always wanby db997S - Main Forum
My '09 Carrera S is a daily driver. I'm a bit of a competitive driver (my wife would say that's a gross understatement), and I work the gears all the time.Gets me out of about as much trouble as hitting the brake peddle. Been a few times I even drop it down two gears. Oh, and my commute to work is exactly four miles, door to door. Yeah, I know, engine doesn't get it warmed up, but 98% of theby db997S - Main Forum
I first thought that Porsche should cover him, but how can they be 100% certain that this person's version of the facts are the truth? He could have been doing something unwise and gotten damage. Under warranty, if I did something stupid in my car and got body damage, I don't try and get Porsche to fix it for free. Even if this was on the track, his insurance probably doesn't cover track damagby db997S - Main Forum
For my wheels, I use car wash soap, a wheel cleaning brush, a sponge and a bucket, but the bucket and sponge are different than the bucket and sponge I use to wash the car so brake dust won't scratch the paint.by db997S - Main Forum
Nice looking car. Let us know your impressions vs the Boxster. I have an 09 after having two Boxsters. Similar, but different at the same time. Weird having all that space behind your head. I find, however, the 911 is a much more solidly built car. It took a couple of years to stop thinking about the rear-end bias, though. Enjoy.by db997S - Main Forum
If you are taking a road trip for several months, no brainer, the Boxster. Two trunks > 1 small trunk. While the Miata has grown over the decades, it's still a small car.by db997S - Main Forum
A good place to start is ask your local dealer if they have any recommendations.by db997S - Main Forum
Yup. It's not like the 70s when sixes were replacing V-8s due to gas shortages and you saw much better gas mileage by dropping two cylinders. That has changed with technology. Gas mileage is way up today, but I just don't think that you are seeing the savings with the smaller turbo 4s. Don't they only get about 2 mpg better than a N/A 6?by db997S - Main Forum
They should just make the base a turbo 4 (with an attractive enough price differential to make it attractive for buyers), the S a de-tuned 6; GTS a slightly less de-tuned 6; GT4 fully tuned, etc.by db997S - Main Forum

Yeah, but you're "at one with the car" and "involved in driving" the car with the manuals, NOT. Did not know all those "assists" were part of the "manual" gear boxes. NASCAR changed their "manual" gear boxes where drivers don't have to use the clutch pedal any longer. Just work the floor-mounted shifter. They do have a few road tracks on the schedule, too, so it does come into play.by db997S - Main Forum
Buy what you prefer. The more scarce manuals become on sports car, I think the more the used car market in the future will crave them--smaller supply to satisfy the appetite (vinyl records are making a come back and turntables are pretty hot right now). So, the age old adage of supply and demand could work in your favor, if that's what worries you. Me, I tend to keep cars for long periods (curby db997S - Main Forum
Brought my car in for its annual physical and there was a GT2 RS in the show room. Had carbon fiber bits, including the racing strips, on the exterior. Window sticker, gulp, $355K! Buy about five Boxsters for that price. Was first looking at the orange GT3 RS before noticing the GT2 RS. Lots of eye candy at Arlington Porsche if you are in the hood.by db997S - Main Forum
I've owned a '98 Boxster, an '02 Boxster S and now an '09 911 S Cab. The '98 I brought new without test driving or even ever sitting in one (six-month wait lists were all the rage back then). The moment I sat in mine to drive off the dealers lot, it fit me like a nice pair of worn jeans. Comfort from the get go. The handling was unbelievable. Picture definition of the word "tossable." You will have to wait for the various "special" editions or "variants" that typically include manuals. Even in Europe, the manual is going by the wayside. PDKs are an amazing change to the manual/automatics. Easier to drive in traffic, and still engaging to drive on the twisties.by db997S - Main Forum
No, not for riding in. I was backing down my drive way and this guy was walking his dog. The dog stopped--not the guy--and turned his head to watch me back down my driveway. Just frozen. Then, he lifted up is front, right paw and held it there until the guy tugged on the leash to get the dog walking again. Must have taken a good 20 or so seconds. People stare at my car, but never a dog.by db997S - Main Forum

Porsche took an extra 993 shell that was laying around and wrapped it around today's technology, including a 450 HP Turbo engine and auctioned it off for charity. Porsche hand stamped it one number higher than the last 993 built. So, is it really a 993? Is it really a 993?by db997S - Main Forum
I recall seeing a Tesla solution to this, well a concept any way, a couple of years ago. It was a system where you "lease" the car's battery pack. You never have to charge it. Simply roll into a designated area, stop. The ground opens up, and robotics remove the batter pack and replace it with a fully charged one. They claimed the swap would take about as long as filling up a car at a regulby db997S - Main Forum
Better option, use a Swell bottle. Keeps water cold and you can keep it between the driver's seat and door. Plus, they are larger (holds more water), and are environmentally friendly. Where I live, the county is considering no longer recycling glass bottles. Too many. Loss leader and they end up in landfills due to over supply of glass bottles.by db997S - Main Forum
Not to be a wise a$$, but could there be something in the alley that is causing this, not your car? Have you tried driving in a large parking lot at off hours so it's empty?by db997S - Main Forum
In the DC area, it has been a very wet, hot and humid summer. Just no reason to go anywhere. Might as well stay at home and sit inside instead of traveling to pay to do the same. It has rained so often that I forgot when the last time I washed my car. Can't do it on weekday after work. On weekends, it is either raining or predicted to rain on Monday or Tuesday. Mine is a daily driver, so itby db997S - Main Forum
