I'm not so sure overfilling is that bad. I overfill my motor by close to a quart ( I would rather have a cloud of smoke from an overwhelmed AOS than a spun bearing because of oil starvation) when going out on the track and with the motor idling, the oil level didn't even register on the dipstick, so I'm a little sceptical that a quart overfill will let the crank slap and earate the oil.by San Rensho - Main Forum
Quotegrant ... a modern porsche motor is designed to be very light and have a very high specific output. This means it must be stressed much higher in both output/L and in terms of RPMs. Not only is it stressed more, but to achieve this they must use more complex valvetrains - and that's where most of the problems lie. Look at all the chains, vario-cams, end bearings, guides, shows, tensionersby San Rensho - Main Forum
I seem toremember reading somewhere to NEVER use a jump statrter because it can fry the DME which costs thousands. Only jump start with another battery from a car that is not running. Opinions?by San Rensho - Main Forum

I had a 914 for 24 hours when I was in in college in Wisconsin. Saw one advertised for $800.00 and said to myself what a deal! Went to look at it at night (mistake number 1), since the owner said many people were interested. It looked ok from the outside and drove well. Owner said it had "some" rust. I bought it. The next day I took it to a mechanic for an inspection (mistake number 2, gby San Rensho - Main Forum
Good numbers. Mine are reading right about where yours are with M1 at around 3k OCIs and 131k miles on the clock.by San Rensho - Main Forum

QuoteBruce In Philly (195K+) Yes, I did not realize what is out there....... Hmmmmm...... I bought my 2000 2.7, 115k miles, for $7500 about a year and a half ago. Its definitely a buyers market, especially here in South Florida. Put a new IMSB in it and you are set.by San Rensho - Main Forum
When the car is hot, the purge valve stays open. Completely normal.by San Rensho - Main Forum
You can buy 2002-2003 Boxsters all day for $15-17k. Why in the world would you invest that much for a motor to put in a 2000 with 200k miles?by San Rensho - Main Forum
Ugly car, period, its not a sports car. Porsche is lost. Cayenne was the nail in the coffin. Sales of units has trumped a history of beauitiful, high performance cars. Its the way of the world, unfortunately.by San Rensho - Main Forum

You can just remove it and very little oil will spill. I take out the filter and examine it for metal bits mid way through the oil change interval aas added insurance against an IMSB failure.by San Rensho - Main Forum
I wouldn't use the Pelican method for replacing the IMSB. Use the LN eng. method. Engine pinned at TDC, lock out both cams and remove all 3 chain tensioners.by San Rensho - Main Forum
The stock suspension set up up has lots of negative camber in the rear to induce understeer, not what you want, but its hard to dial it out with a a stock suspension. Negative camber will wear the insides of the rears very quickly. The solution is to run directional tires and rotate the rears by dismounting them and swapping them side to side. You can double the rears life by doing this. If yby San Rensho - Main Forum
QuoteAl in Melbourne Beach Well Pedro, I wish I had done that. It got worse today. A quart of fluid wasn't quite enough and it was getting late Sunday so I decided to flush the clutch later. Tonight, I put the Motive in a bucket in the front trunk, pumped it up, got my assistant, and crawled under the rear end. By the time I got the line on the nipple and loosened it up, no flow. Why do Scotsmen wear kilts? Because sheep can hear a zipper from a mile away.by San Rensho - Main Forum
Exactly. And before you apply the lube, hit the hat and inside of the wheel with a wire brush to get all the rust/crap out of the interface.by San Rensho - Main Forum
You can definitely dismount and swap the rears left to right as long as the tires are symetrical. If they are asymetrics, they will not shed water properly in the wet. The reason the rears wear on the insides is that the stock alignment calls for a lot of negative camber, which causes the inside to wear. Next time you have the car aligned, go to a shop that will work with you and have them diby San Rensho - Main Forum

QuotePedro (Weston, FL) n/t Absolutely right. Just cross the county line to Broward and drivers are definitely nicer, and go one county up to Palm beach and the drivers actually start to get civilised. Sometimes, the slow poke drivers in the left lane on the freeway will actually move to the right lane to let you pass. Something that would never happen in Miamiby San Rensho - Main Forum
Quotedanz76 This practice was very commonly reciprocated by other P car drivers when I lived in northern NJ, but here in Miami people either ignore me or stare at me, so I have been doing it less frequently. I agree, I'd like to see this saved. Drivers in Miami are the biggest @ss-holes in the world and I can say this because I live in Miami. 911 drivers think their sh!t doesn't stink and wouldby San Rensho - Main Forum

Put a piece of cardboard under the motor to see where it drips from. The only major leak that really poses a problem is usually a leak from the center of the car, where the tranny and motor mate. A leak there is usually either the rear main seal or the intermediate shaft bearing, which should be addressed immediately. Another common leak is towards the side of the car, just in front of the wheeby San Rensho - Main Forum
