Not wanting to be argumentative but I simply can't accept that... MarcW - Saturday, 13 July, 2013, at 4:54:02 pm |

In the past year the has been a more than occasional noise upon cold startup that sure sounds like a loose tappet. It begins about 30 seconds or so after startup when the idle drops, along with oil pressure ( to about 19-21 psi. ) Having had the 20k oil change a few days ago, a check of the level showed it it to be one increment down. About 1/4 qt brought it to full. There's been no hard tapping for the past few cold starts. Being that the motor's capacity is now 2 qts less, and in spite of there being an "electricronically controlled" pump, the flow is possibly marginally adequate in this circumstance. However, there's never any valve noise at any pressure when the motor is warm.
In any case the dealer has heard it from cold and says effectively, "they all do that." Laz - Saturday, 13 July, 2013, at 7:11:20 pm |

Haven't been worried, just wondering. Also, the fill was a little short; barely uses oil in 1000s. *NM* Laz - Sunday, 14 July, 2013, at 9:23:56 am |
However: if it's the high pressure injectors, why would seemingly only one make that hard noise? *NM* Laz - Sunday, 14 July, 2013, at 1:16:03 pm |

Interesting, but no CE or perceptible misfires or stumbles. Dealer says the sound is "normal." Laz - Monday, 15 July, 2013, at 3:56:29 am |

Wrote "bum" injector, not "burn." Letterspacing is a bit tight. *NM* Laz - Monday, 15 July, 2013, at 2:18:27 pm |

Still looks wrong. Should have typed " b u m " instead. Laz - Monday, 15 July, 2013, at 6:34:13 pm |
Still no hard single loose tappet-like noise on cold start ups. Laz - Wednesday, 17 July, 2013, at 1:07:39 pm |
Not meaning to get off topic, but speaking of oil Guenter in Ontario - Wednesday, 17 July, 2013, at 1:25:15 pm |
Been topping up with only the second quart since mile zero, but Laz - Wednesday, 17 July, 2013, at 1:56:57 pm |
Better to have them underfill, rather than overfill Guenter in Ontario - Wednesday, 17 July, 2013, at 2:18:53 pm |
Oh, yes, I agree, especially if it's just a quarter quart or so. Oil changes: Laz - Wednesday, 17 July, 2013, at 3:36:33 pm |
