...but I think I may have found the scene you're referring to ("There's something on your hat...")by Leor ('09S, North of Boston) - Main Forum
At the U.S. Open a few years back (tennis in NY, not that other, boring U.S. Open...) I picked up a logo hat with nice tight elastic around the brim. That hat will never blow off, no matter how fast I'm going with the top down...by Leor ('09S, North of Boston) - Main Forum
For drivers to voluntarily install this type of monitoring device, in order to qualify for discounted rates, is one thing...but being forced to have one (whether by an insurance company or anyone) seems a long, LONG way off. Like not in my lifetime. Remember when the EZ-Pass system first came out? I refused to use them for years because I feared the data could, and therefore would, be used to iby Leor ('09S, North of Boston) - Main Forum
The original discussion about RPM's has clearly morphed into something...else. The point I've been trying to make, apparently not very well, is there may be multiple extenuating factors, esp. in congested traffic, that would cause me to make the value judgment of not getting out of someone's way as soon as I become aware of them behind me. I don't think there's really any need for me to enumerateby Leor ('09S, North of Boston) - Main Forum
"A mile back" was a bit of an exaggeration. There are traffic patterns where pulling over just doesn't make sense / seem necessary... I'll do it when feasible (if for no other reason than I'd rather have the hot-dogger in front of me where I can keep an eye on him as he pulls away rathern than having him ride my tailpipe), but sometimes I'll wait until getting out of the congestion before movingby Leor ('09S, North of Boston) - Main Forum
...but only if there was nowhere for him to go would I not have gotten out of his way. In the interests of full disclosure, I have been known to fail to notice someone behind me and get out of the way in a timely manner, but I do realize my error when they pull out to go around me and in those cases I will do everything in my power to facilitate their easy passing. The revs only get up there when the PDK senses the need...the need for speed... so here are the typical situaitons where I often take it to the limiter: 1. Entering a highway and seeing myself on an interception course with oncoming traffic. Often a rapid speed-up is going to be the least disruptive option. And the more space I put between us, the less their potential concern. So I hit it. 2. Iby Leor ('09S, North of Boston) - Main Forum
I think what we have here is a bit of a "religious issue", i.e., just personal preference. Personally, I got all the high-revving driving pretty much out of my system during the three years I owned my '03S 5-speed, and with the '09S (KevinR's' twin), I'm almost always in auto mode and let it shift in its miserly way because I like being energy efficient and there really is enough torque at thoseby Leor ('09S, North of Boston) - Main Forum
I wish my new Impreza had the stop-start engine feature. It gets around 30mpg combined, but if I've recently reset the MPG calculator and I'm stopped at a light, I watch the mileage go down tick by tick while I'm sitting there...by Leor ('09S, North of Boston) - Main Forum
The color is about the same, though the finish on my Boxster is a bit less weathered...by Leor ('09S, North of Boston) - Main Forum
When I was 10, I got appendicitis and didn't get to the hospital until after it ruptured. So I'm in there for a week, and they insisted on turning on "Rowan and Martin's Laugn-In" on like the first evening after surgery. A-ha OWWWW! A-ha OWWWWW! But your incident sounds like no laughing matter. Get better quick!by Leor ('09S, North of Boston) - Main Forum
Right, I believe Canadians often add the letter "a" at the end of sentences, eh?by Leor ('09S, North of Boston) - Main Forum
I should point out, however, that the new Impreza isn't particularly well-endowed in the power department...but to me, that's exactly one of its charms because the high-end edition (Sport Limited) fully loaded (nav, sunroof, leather, voice command, auto-everything, dimming mirror, etc. etc.) is still truly fun to drive, a bargain, and I'm getting around 29mpg combined. So I've never started one of these scan day threads and I hope I'm not violating some protocol by starting it in Thursday. Anyway, here's my new family portrait...can anyone identify the common blood? (And if you remember the fact I posted about this around 4 months ago, you're disqualified, lol):by Leor ('09S, North of Boston) - Main Forum
There were some little broken parts in the slide-out cupholder, and I actually had it replaced. I think the bill was somewhere in the $500 range. The really embarrassing part is that I traded that Boxster in for my new one about a month later, lol.by Leor ('09S, North of Boston) - Main Forum
Hey, does mine have the smiley-Porsche under there? I've never looked, lolby Leor ('09S, North of Boston) - Main Forum
IIRC, when my '03S was about 5 years old (and ~60K miles), my indie mechanic replaced all of the ignition coils because he detected issues with several of them (none of which had led to any CEL activity yet). After that service, I gained about 3 MPG!by Leor ('09S, North of Boston) - Main Forum
I'm not qualified to advise whether or not it is safe to drive. I guess it all depends on whether you're willing to deal with getting it towed if the problem escalates while you're out and about.by Leor ('09S, North of Boston) - Main Forum
Hey, I forgot to ask on the previous thread: were you aware that this particular '09S configuration is known as the "launch car"? An identical specimen was sent to each P-car dealer and served sort of as the rolling demo. When I purchased mine (at Herb Chambers Porsche in Boston) in Fall of '09, it had been the sales manager's wheels while it was there, so he basically broke it in for me. A little mainstream-targeted, but I take umbrage and "more manly" comments. My '09 is manly enough, thank you very much. Geez Louise...by Leor ('09S, North of Boston) - Main Forum
Congrats, and excellent choice of model/color/everything (Mine: ) Everyone's already covered all the salient issues...so some minor comments: 1. The 'puter won't let you over-rev, so don't sweat it. 2. I sweated the 19s myself, since there are a lot of less-than-ideal road surfaces in the Boston area, but it hasn't been much of an issue. While I'd prefer the option to soften the ride (a la Pby Leor ('09S, North of Boston) - Main Forum
...and then sales tax is only 5-7% in most states (6.25 here in Taxachusetts). So the net result, at least in my experience, is that whatever a car is "listed" at ends up being more-or-less the amount you actually end up dishing out...by Leor ('09S, North of Boston) - Main Forum
When's the last time anyone actually scanned a picture to post? In fact, has anyone ever done that, lol?by Leor ('09S, North of Boston) - Main Forum
It's the first bike I've owned in 17 years, and the heaviest, and the one with the most annoying directional signal controls by several orders of magnitude and with a shifter I still haven't quite come to terms with (Beemer shifters like to be pre-loaded, especially that pesky 1st-to-2nd shift, but so far I've found doing that to feel unnatural. I'll keep working on it, especially since I don'tby Leor ('09S, North of Boston) - Main Forum
...I didn't make it very far the first time, some 30-odd years ago, but that was probably because I may have been into motorcycles but not so much into self-awareness... now I meditate regularly and am actively involved with my local meditation center (even maintaining the web site for them), so I think I'd be more receptive to that book!by Leor ('09S, North of Boston) - Main Forum
Already having flat 6-cylinder- and 2-cylinder- ('95 BMW R1100R) -engined vehicles in my garage, I will soon add a 4-cylinder flavor: just special-ordered a '12 Subaru Impreza Sport Limited (to replace our long-in-the-tooth '99 RX300 as the "utility" vehicle). I have the "puny 19s" on mine, lol (nmanitou, you beat me in posting the idea, but I wrote this an hour ago and then went off to eat dinner, lol...) I have to say, I'm OK with the looks... for the single reason that I will appreciate my '09's styling all the more in comparison when these puppies begin to hit the road. I get the feeling that the changes are for change's sake alone: so those whby Leor ('09S, North of Boston) - Main Forum
