It's interesting that the new Boxster is getting a retractable spoiler......it's about time! Our local newspaper had a "driver's" report on the Cayman last weekend. The story was highly complimentary of the Cayman, but indicated the author's wish that there was a roadster version available! All the news that's fit to print! Billby whall - Main Forum
I was at my dealer's last Saturday night for the local "unveiling" party. One of the many sales types, in attendance, told me that the rear bumper cover had to be removed before engine maintenance can be performed! Access to the engine bay is YERY small and mainly blocked by two electric cooling fans. There is a photograph in Pedro's post below. Billby whall - Main Forum
A 24 hour format is available. If I wasn't watching the post game NFC playoff game show, I'd get my owner's manual to list the procedure. I do remember that the 12/24 selection is made with the time set knob. Billby whall - Main Forum
I remember an article in Excellence Magazine (June 2010) titled "Cheap 968/996 Remote Key Fix". I can't be certain what all kinds of repairs were covered but I remember the article covered soldering on the circuit board. I also remember, possibly on RennTech, someone had found a web site where the small switches could be ordered. Billby whall - Main Forum

Here's the solution I did on my MY03 Boxster: It works perfectly....looking like a factory installation. I installed the switch below the PSM disable switch on the left hand side of the center panel. Billby whall - Main Forum

It could be the light switch. Also, on the right side tail light assembly there is a fog light socket which is - by design - not wired up to power. The socket in question is located on the lower tier of lights/sockets between the side marker light and the tail light. If the engine is a MY07 3.4 liter Boxster S engine, I believe the serial number should look something like: m97.21 67700501 -> m97.21 67760000 Where m97.21 = Boxster S engine (no IMS, with DFI), 6 = six cylinders, 7 = engine version, 7 = model year, 00501 -> 60000 = serial number of the engine. If there is an "AT" between the 1 and the 6 in the serial number, that means the engine has beby whall - Main Forum
MY2001 was the last year Porsche used a 3.4 liter engine in the 911/996. It seems to me to be a stretch that there are any NEW 3.4 liter 911 engines in existence. The engine you are writing about is a newly re manufactured engine. Possibly re manufactured by Porsche....possibly not. In any event try to get the serial number of the engine in question and post it here. Once you find out what you arby whall - Main Forum
If I am not mistaken, in addition to what jg atl mentioned, the DME's are completely different which takes considerable effort to wire around. Fortunately, the MY03 and later Boxsters have a DME that is compatible with all 3.6/3.8/X51 engines through MY08. Billby whall - Main Forum

From the Owner's Manual: If the level gauge warning light flashes, there has been a system fault. Additionally, a warning is displayed in the on-board computer. There will then be no reserve warning. To remedy the fault, go to an authorized Porsche dealer. It looks like you'll at least have to have a PST2/PIWIS/Durametric check for a code. Bill What Pedro Said!by whall - Main Forum
Check Page 29 in your Owner's Manual. It states that if you lock the door by pushing the lock button on the remote once, you will see the emergency flashers flash twice. If the car is equipped with an alarm system and you push the lock button twice, the emergency flashers will illuminate for two seconds and you will hear a short alarm-horn signal. You can recall warning messages on the OBC. In the MY10 Boxster Owner's Manual, the procedure is spelled out on Page 136: "INFO Warning Messages". I'm sure it is located on a similar page in the MY09 Owner's Manual. Billby whall - Main Forum
Parked the Boxster, the Targa, my Acura daily driver and my oldest boy's BMW in a parking garage at a local hospital. We kept Leadfoot's A-4 Quatro (four wheel drive escape vehicle) in one side of the garage....the other side was filled with front porch and back yard patio furniture. The only casualty was a partially up-rooted butterfly bush. (I was worried about the survival of two 50+ tall willby whall - Main Forum
After consulting the Bentley Manual and a Factory Manual, I think there is a point that needs to be brought up. As of MY03 there is a difference in the "stated" engine oil capacities. For MY 97 - MY02 Boxsters the Bentley Manual on Page 03-13 and the Factory Manual Group 0, Page 03-1.5 page 2, (dated 2001), indicate an engine oil capacity of 8.75l/9.23qt following a filter change. Here's how the engine compartment temperature system works....based on a 996. I just can't seem to find the time/temperature values for a 986. However, the system logic is the same. Engine Compartment Fan To reduce the temperature of the engine compartment, a fan actuated by the DME control unit is installed under the engine compartment cover. If the fan is active, fresh air is fed into the engby whall - Main Forum
Down load the manual then turn to pages 102 through 107 to see all of the possible displayed messages. The only message I see that mentions the words "engine" and "failure" at the same time on the same screen is the engine compartment blower failure message, i.e. "Failure of Engine-Compartment Blower". The last oil change at my dealer cost $188.06 (or $169.25 after a 10% PCA discount.) The largest charge was for labor - $106.00 for an hour. The Porsche service manual says to allow about 20 minutes to completely drain the oil. There goes $35.33. That leaves $70.67 for about 40 minutes of actual work. The rest of the cost was $26.24 for a filter insert; $1.32 for a new crush washer; and $64.50 fby whall - Main Forum
because I often am. But I think I remember reading somewhere that MY06 and newer engines are not candidates for an "easy" IMS bearing replacement. The crankcase has to be split to replace the bearing - due to a re-design of that end of the engine. Billby whall - Main Forum
The service booklet calls for the airbag system be checked after 4 years, 8 years and then every 2 years after that. The check is done with a PST2/PIWIS combined with pulling fuse E1 to induce an airbag light then resetting the fuse to check the airbag goes out and then clearing any fault codes. Finally the system components are checked for damage and the airbags are checked to ensure there are nby whall - Main Forum
