since the locking mechanism is locking and then unlocking, seems to be that lock is working. Are there any other electronic gremlins you are experiencing? It could be the ignition lock. The symptoms you are describing are the same as a friend had on his 1999 996. Doors would lock and then immediately unlock again. You are comparing to completely different vehicles. Now as it's getting colder, springs, seats and other suspension bits are getting stiffer, that along with the flat spots you mentioned, does not make for a pleasant ride, specially on rough roads.
