All, I just changed out the worn out drivers door lock mechanism today on my 2001 Boxster S. It took me a couple of hours to get the old one out and then much shorter to install the new one. Now the window does drop down when opening the door and stays down until it is closed. The problem is that neither window will go up or down and neither will the top. When I try to lock the car it beeps twicby Wyominguy - Main Forum
Marc, I assume you had the tech replace the switch for you or did you do it yourself? What is an estimate of what the cost to replace this part? Thank you, Neilby Wyominguy - Main Forum
All, I know this is not a new problem for many but I have not found any posts here or other places that describe exactly my problem that just began on my 2001 Boxster S. The drivers door window works great except now it when opening the door it does not stay down after releasing the handle. This happens with both the inside and outside handle. So the result is not being able to close the doorby Wyominguy - Main Forum
I just placed my order for a new "loaded" Audi S4 in Monsoon Grey. Almost every option is included. Ya gotta love a wife who wanted a manual shift and all the "safety" options which "required" that we purchase this car. This will be our retirement car to visit kids and others over the next many years. Supercharged V6 and 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. Now we just have to wait a couple of months. I did find some references to the cable breaking online. I will look at this closely before opening the new cables when they arrive but it appears that the cable is broken. I can move the shifter bracket at the rear of the car and it will then push the cable forward and move the shift lever in the car, one way only. That leads me to believe that the cable is broken. Well I got lucky. Driving home yesterday (3 mile trip) when I went to downshift to pass someone and the shifter just went limp and would not move out of gear. I thought it was the short shifter that had come loose again as it had six years ago. I was able to pull into the driveway and garage in 6th gear and proceeded to take the console out but soon discovered that the cable was attached but notby Wyominguy - Main Forum
All, Here is a great ad for a Boxster that appeared in the Billings, MT newspaper on Saturday. The price is much too high but the message is perfect!by Wyominguy - Main Forum
but it is similar to the wife's car we are replacing (Honda Accord). The A6 does not offer a manual transmission and the wife really wants a shift. Gotta love that because it eliminated a whole lot of less fun cars. Neilby Wyominguy - Main Forum

I am looking to replace the family car soon and have narrowed the choice to an Audi S4 with all the bells and whistles. This will be our retirement car to get us around the country when not driving the Boxster. What is your experience with this car if any? Thanks, Neil 2001 Boxster Sby Wyominguy - Main Forum
I still have the indentation in my forehead from the clutch pedal to prove it. Neilby Wyominguy - Main Forum
Boxsterra, Pedro and all the others, Just spent some time with the Boxster taking the ignition module back out and putting it back in again and it works!! I did have the key in my hand while under the dash and had to insert it into the ignition switch while putting the module on, when I wiggled it slightly everything popped into place and the key was able to turn and the steering wheel lock relby Wyominguy - Main Forum
Boxsterra and dghii, I will try taking it out tomorrow night. BTW, this part has not been replaced since I have owned the car for over seven years and know the previous owner did not replace anything with the ignition. Thanks, Neilby Wyominguy - Main Forum
Mark, Thank you for the information. I agree the problem is mechanical (the key will not turn at all) and likely the entire switch will need to be replaced. Is this really something I can do? Wouldn't this require new keys and/or programming from the dealer? Does it require removing the dash? All things I need to know know to prepare. Neilby Wyominguy - Main Forum
Boxsterra, I changed out the part at the end of the ignition, the part that requires loosening the two screws covered with red paint. There is no way the part was not lined up correctly as there are only two ways to put it in and I know it was installed and seated correctly before reattaching the electrical connection. As this is the only Porsche I have owned I assume others have the same procby Wyominguy - Main Forum
All, Just spent some time changing out the ignition module with the Audi part following the procedures posted here and on the old Boxster Board. Not fun but I twisted myself around and got it done. Now the big problem. Maybe that is not what had been the problem since now the key will not turn and the steering wheel is locked. I have not driven or started the car since October, just sitting inby Wyominguy - Main Forum
Steve, I had those type of problems for well over a year in my 2001S and after multiple cleanings of the MAF it still was throwing codes. This spring I finally bit the bullet and replaced the MAF. Bingo, not a single problem now in over 10,000 miles, Neilby Wyominguy - Main Forum
I have heard it said that after a period of time of living together couples tend to begin looking and acting like each other. Well, for the past couple of years I have been storing my small push mower I use for trimming in the Boxster garage. It has recently started blowing a cloud of blue smoke upon starting, which promptly disappears in a minute. Now I am wondering if the car and the lawnmowerby Wyominguy - Main Forum
I live about 500 miles from the nearest dealer so checking this a regular intervals might help ease my concern. Neil 2001 Boxster Sby Wyominguy - Main Forum
In the September 2011 issue of Excellence Magazine there is an article (p.131) on Air Oil Separators. The authors suggest purchasing a Slack Tube Manometer to check the crankcase vacuum at every service or oil change. Have any of you purchased and used one of these? If so, where did you buy one and have you found it to be helpful? Thank you, Neil 2001 Boxster Sby Wyominguy - Main Forum
they were horrible cars when new. My Grandfather had a 59, Dad had a 58 and I later drove a 60. They all handled like crap too. Neilby Wyominguy - Main Forum
Joe, Thanks for the suggestions. Contact made and purchase in process!! Neilby Wyominguy - Main Forum

Bob, I can' speak about the Porsche treatment but I have been using Raggtopp on my 2001 S since I bought it. I typically apply it twice a year when it looks like it does not bead as much when wet. I still have the original top and it looks like new, absolutely no wear anywhere on the top. I do mask the windows and paint with tape and newspaper but it is not required. I apply two coats and let itby Wyominguy - Main Forum
All, Driving in the middle of Nebraska a couple of days ago with the top down and thought I heard something. Looked around and the plastic insert was still there but now after arriving home I realize the RH black plastic insert blew out. Does anyone have an idea on where I could get one? Used would be ok since I don't think these parts are worth the $100+ they might bring new. The part numberby Wyominguy - Main Forum
