Hi Marc, Congratulations on moving on to your next "rides". Your posts on your Boxster will be missed... I am not sure anyone is going to catch up to the miles you have logged. Thanks for all you have done in sharing your experiences and being so giving of your time and advice in helping us! Barryby BarryL - Main Forum

My indy put a used transmission in and was not happy with it and let me know they would be working with their supplier to get another unit and that the supplier might send it out for a rebuild. My indy inspected the IMS (2006 replacement engine with larger bearing) and from what he could tell, looked okay, no leaking or areas looking like a problem. However, we discussed whether it made sense tby BarryL - Main Forum
That's great and I appreciate being able to do that. I was inquiring because there may be a time Pedro when you or anyone else is unwilling to administer the board, and I was wondering if there was a way to acquire the data in a form that could be accessed without the current application. What is contained in this board is pure gold IMHO. I could see the value in parsing out subjects that couldby BarryL - Main Forum
Miken. I do recall the dealership installing the new crated engine in 2006 having an issue with the wiring harness, but they figured it out. I don't know if that meant changing out the ECU. Barryby BarryL - Main Forum
For years I have been enjoying this board and the intellectual content posted by those who have researched a particular area and have shared their knowledge on a variety of topics. Is there anyway that the posts in this database could be sorted by author or topic in its entirety and put in a flat file or hard copy book? For example, every time there is a discussion on trouble codes, there is soby BarryL - Main Forum

With 210K miles on the chassis and 175K on the engine, question is upgraded bearing or DOF solution given cost differential and age. I like the idea of DOF for piece of mind.by BarryL - Main Forum
would you have the failed transmission rebuilt or have a replacement used (rebuilt or guaranteed used transmission)by BarryL - Main Forum
Just had the transmission fluid change last month to fix a hesitation problem and the car ran great for a while, but then started hesitating again. On Sunday I drove down to Monterey for a round of golf. As I turned into the golf course parking lot, I began hearing some grinding noises. I pulled into a parking spot, stopped and got out... I noticed smoke vapors coming out from under the car andby BarryL - Main Forum
Hi Mark, Wow. this might just be the problem! I did have a sparkplug tube leak that was not fixed during my last sparkplug change about 2 years ago. At that time, the leak was not that bad but this may be the issue in this case. Thanks!by BarryL - Main Forum
Hi Grant, Thanks so much for your comments. The belt had been replaced when the alternator was replaced last year. I am hesitant to put money into the valve cover leak now. Pointed thoughts on the wiring...hmmm..sure hope it was the battery as loosing power and engine shutoff or worry that it could happen at any time is not a comfortable position. Thanks again, Grant!by BarryL - Main Forum
The car was done as promised. Got a call from Gilbert from Flintworks who explained what they had done. The belt tensioner was shot, and they replaced it. No more grinding noise! Then, Gilbert showed me pictures of the transmission pan and magnets covered with metal shavings. He indicated that changing the transmission oil had fixed the shuttering problem for now. Gilbert indicated that it is harby BarryL - Main Forum

I think my local indy is no longer in business...several calls/messages were not returned. I ended up taking the car to Flintworks in Campbell. So are, really great service and communication. They checked out the car today and reported the following: 1. the grinding noise was the belt tensioner, which was loose and barely hanging on, so I am fortunate it held together long enough for me to getby BarryL - Main Forum
I ordered my 2002 Boxster 2.7L, Tip, waited for it to be built and shipped, picked it up and drove it out of the show room floor. Since then, I have put every mile on it. IMS failure at 36K miles in 2006, and porsche replaced with new crate factory engine. I enjoy driving this car every bit as much as the day I drove it out of the showroom.by BarryL - Main Forum
Last month, I reported a surging issue at low speeds and low rpms, and some grinding noise my local indy heard when he was replacing the AOS. I was going to have him address these issues when he got back from vacation. But the surging seems to have lessened and I have been busy so I havent followed up. Last week I called my indy and left a message and again this week and no call back. The noiseby BarryL - Main Forum

Received a message from Mike who had a similar problem that ended up being the gas pedal potentiometer. In his case, it finally failed to the extent he had to have the car towed his mechanic. Some great information I can feed to my tech.by BarryL - Main Forum
After performing the E-GAS Calibration, seemed like the car ran smoother and shuttering was reduced somewhat. It is hard to describe the shuttering/hesitation...but at low speeds accelerating and more noticeably when going up an incline, the hesitation, shuttering seems to fluctulate, but the real shuttering occurs when I go over a roughness in the road or bump while accelerating, Kind of feels lby BarryL - Main Forum

The tech did not have any thoughts about the shuddering, only that if it were a transmission, it would be around $3500 to get a used one installed. The shuddering is not that bad at this point, more an irritation. I have been waiting for it to get worse before garaging the car. It almost feels like when you are stalling out a car with low rpm's, so if I keep the rpms up, seems to not to be an isby BarryL - Main Forum
Oil removed from cylinders, new AOS, sparkplugs and oil/filter. My indy said to expect burn off of oil for awhile, and when I drove home from the shop, particularly on startup, quite a burn off. My indy is going on vacation and didn't have time to check out the low speed shudder issue I was having on this visit. The new spark plug replacement did not fix this. I will be taking it back in a cby BarryL - Main Forum
This will be my 4th AOS. Like in your case, my mechanic didn't expect there to be a problem in getting this cleared and back on the road. He said there is a lot of inaccurate hype on the internet that this type of event destroys engines. It came on so fast, without warning and I shut it down pretty soon, but not immediately as I was in on highway 1 coming up the coast and it took me 30 sec to finby BarryL - Main Forum
Coming back from golf up along the coast from Monterey. smoke began bellowing out my exhaust and I pulled over as soon as I could(about 30 sec). Engine lost power in vapor lock as I was coming to a stop. Flatbed tow to my local Indy. He will be working on it tomorrow but indicated total engine freeze up. He seemed confident he could drain oil out of the spark plugs holes and that it should be finby BarryL - Main Forum
