I have two rips in my soft rear window. For those who have repaired or replaced your soft rear window... 1. Did you repair with another soft window? Cost? 2. Did you replace with glass? Source and Cost? 3. Are you happy with your repair/replacement? Thanks for your input! BarryL 2002 Boxster Base $163Kby BarryL - Main Forum
I have the same problem.... sweet maple smell and oil residual on windshield when using the defroster, so I will be replacing mine. I priced out a boxster heater core at $360 for original porsche part or around $165 for Velco OEM through Pelican parts. Any thoughts on going either brand? I don't like to go away from original parts, but this is quite a price difference. Thanks, BarryL Dubliby BarryL - Main Forum
I appreciate all of the work that Mkarash has done to accumulate and speak on the data. Whether IMS failure rate is 2% or 20%, its 100% if it happens to you. I was wondering what % of cars if driven to say 200K, would experience an IMS related failure. As I posted before, I had an IMS failure at 39K and 4 years old. Now I have 151K (chassis), and I am wondering what my chances are of havingby BarryL - Main Forum
Yes! For the first four years after buying my 2002 base Boxster with tip, it stayed in the garage. At 39K and just over four years old, I had an IMS failure and got a replacement engine from Porsche. Since that time, I decided to put as many miles as I can on my Boxster. Over three years ago, I took a job where I commuted 75 miles each way and my Boxster was my daily commute car. Now, my commby BarryL - Main Forum
I was pleasantly surprised but the dealer Stevens Creek Porsche took it back no questions asked and replaced the AOS. The service rep told me that it is rare to have the AOS last such a short time, but that he has heard of the clamp holding the flex hose cutting into the hose. Interesting that when I had taken it in back in May and told the rep I had replaced the AOS myself a year and a halfby BarryL - Main Forum
Tomorrow I take it into the dealer who did the AOS a little over 3 months ago and about 9K miles. So the first AOS lasted approx 70K miles (I had IMS failure and replacement engine at 39K, new AOS) , the next one about 40k, and the last one about 9K. Hopefully I'll have better luck on the next one. I'll post the details on resolution. Thanks Marc and Grant! Barryby BarryL - Main Forum
Any thoughts as to why an AOS can fail? My 2002 Base tip with 148K miles showed a check engine light. I took it to a local indy and they indicated it was an AOS failure. I had replaced the AOS two years ago, and about three months ago after it failed, I had it replaced at the dealership. Any thoughts on why the AOS would be going out so soon? Yes, the service rep was good about informing me about the warranty... I just had to provide a copy of the reciept. While they were into the engine area, they noticed a leak in a coolant check valve near the tip transmission, with a cost of $135 parts, $335 labor.. ouch. I hadn't noticed any fluid losses, so I am assuming they were able to locate the start of something. Part needed to be ordereby BarryL - Main Forum
Turned out to be the AOS and I was quoted a price of $688 to replace. A local indy in Dublin quoted me a price of a little under $400. Rather than have it towed 50 miles or take the chance of driving it back to Dublin, I decided to have the dealer do the work. So, the 13 hours of labor didn't end up being the case. I'll report back the final damage. Thanks for everyone who replied! Barryby BarryL - Main Forum
Any idea of labor hours/cost? I replaced the AOS last year, but may be having issues with it now. I took my 2002 base with 140K miles in to the dealer after I experienced a vacumn/whine sound coming from each side of the rear wheels. Upon initial inspection by the service rep, (he unscrewed the oil cap and the engine sound changed dramatically), he suggested it may be something to do with theby BarryL - Main Forum
Great call. I spent 6 hours on Saturday changing out the AOS following Mike Folke's step by step instructions. At times I was wondering if I had made the right DIY decision, but like other weekend mechanics on this site using a lot of patience, I got throught it successfully. Knock on wood, no check engine light 200 miles later. BarryLby BarryL - Main Forum
My check engine light came on. My CanOBD2 reader gave off just a P1128 code. A year and a half ago I had a P1128 accompanied by a P1130 code which turned out to be a vacum tube. Any ideas on what this could be? I was planning to change out my AOS tommorrow. Barry Dublin, CA 2002 Boxster 2.7 base tip 123K milesby BarryL - Main Forum
