Coming home from a day of golfing, a massive amount of smoke starts coming out my exhaust. I pulled over when I could after about 30 seconds of driving with this condition. Called AAA and had flatbed tow to my local porsche indy. Hopefully no engine damage. . BarryLby BarryL - Main Forum
I enjoy my Boxster as much now as I did 15 years and 207K miles ago when I drove it out of the show room floor. Now its time to get a hands free cell phone solution. Anyone have experience upgrading? I have the standard becker radio and six speakers (floor, dash and rear storage console). Barry 2002 2.7 seal grey tip 207,500 miles Santa Cruz, CAby BarryL - Main Forum
Hi Marc, It's been a while since last service (9 months), about 40 k on spark plugs. Probably time to have my local Indy check it out. Thanks so much and I will post the out come. So great to have you still around on this board for invaluable source. Boxsterra too, Barryby BarryL - Main Forum

My 2002 2.7 base with 207K still my daily driver. Starting to have an issue with low speed lunging/surging going up a grade a low rpms (tiptronic). I am wondering if this is a transmission problem, and have been waiting for it to get worse before I take it to my local indy. If I downshift to increase rpm's, seems to go away. Any thoughts on what this could be? BarryL 2002 2.7 Seal Grey Tip Sanby BarryL - Main Forum

Also, thanks for the suggestion on the battery test. It is amazing how fast everything shuts down when the electricity flow has been cut off. Barryby BarryL - Main Forum
Today I was driving on freeway and noticed the battery warning light going on and off. This was happening for about five minutes. Then the ABS warning light, Brake warning light and air bag warning lights illuminated. In the fast lane, I begin working my way the center lane when all of the warning lights come on and the engine dies. Fortunately, I was able to push the car off into the shoulderby BarryL - Main Forum
I the past, smog checks could be a little annoying as the smog station had to get into the engine bay for a visual inspection. Last month, I took my Boxster in for its smog check, but had the hardtop on, and thinking I am going to have to help the inspector take the top off, and get into the engine bay. However, all the inspector did was read the codes and didn't even put the "breathalizer" up thby BarryL - Main Forum

It seems like maybe just an adjustment to the latch catch, but I noticed there is no longer a "click" when I close the front hood. The hoodt has always been a little stiff to close, but now no click and with pressure, it quietly latches, then disengages after a few minutes of driving. I don't think it is the releasing via switch engagement, which I have had issues with in the past and cleaned ouby BarryL - Main Forum

So I ordered the gahh glass top replacement. I get a call from the shop and they say they received the top and we schedule the day for the work to be done. I am in constant contact with the owner, arrange to drop the car off the night before. I get a call the day of the service and the top is done ready for pick up. Go down to pick it up (40 miles away). Arrive and notice a new vinyl window. Askby BarryL - Main Forum
With Pedro's help, I gained some additional information that has provided more clarification for me.... My goodwill replacement was done in November 2006. I don't have conclusive evidence, but I understand that crate engines from that time might have incorporated the latest IMS bearing, which would mean there is a good chance I have the bigger single bearing version that cannot be replaced 987?by BarryL - Main Forum

I know there has been so much discussion on IMS and everyone is probably tired of talking about it but I wanted to get some thoughts on a discussion I had with my local Porsche shop and well respected Porsche guy. . With 200K miles, I asked him if he thought it was worth replacing the IMS. I had a engine failure at 36k in 2006 due to IMS and had a goodwill replacement engine that has gone 165Kby BarryL - Main Forum
