He hooked up the diagnostic, read, and cleared the code at no cost and it took 5 minutes during my lunch hour. I followed his lead and will go back in if the light comes on again...by BarryL - Main Forum
He confirmed that it is often the seat belt switch....but well see if the light comes back on. BarryLby BarryL - Main Forum

Servicing ease is a little worrisome as I do some repairs and servicing myself. After watching a YouTube with a guy driving his Boxster with new glass top and commenting on the reduction in noise and the fact visibility is already impacted helped with the decision along with thoughts of no more chop and caring for the vinyl. Time will tell and I'll repot back. BarryLby BarryL - Main Forum

The quote I received for a new top was Robbins not GAHH. Installer prefers Robbins over GAHH. Does anyone have any experience with Robbins?by BarryL - Main Forum
With the differential now around $500-$650, I am thinking replacement. Now its deciding between vinyl or glass. With Pedro's comments about service bay access issues if not installed perfectly, I need to think hard about the glass. Most reviews I have seen owners are happy with the reduction in road noise with the glass and others I have heard are not that impacted by the smaller rear window.by BarryL - Main Forum
I have quotes to replace my cracked rear vinyl window - $570, or replace the top with a GAHH (vinyl window) for $1480. The top is in pretty good shape otherwise. If I go GAHH, I am leaning toward staying with the vinyl top due to the discussion about smaller size of the glass window. What would (have) you do/done with your top and what made you go this way? Marc, Thank you for sharing your experience and advice. I am now more motivated to get this looked asap. As usual Marc, you are a treasured source of information and invaluable to those of us who are planning on keeping our Boxsters indefinetly. Owners manual says to have looked at by Porsche authorized service provider. Has anyone found something simple to check before taking it in. Thanks, BarryL 2002 base 2.7, Tip Seal Grey, 200,537 miles Santa Cruz, CAby BarryL - Main Forum

This warning light has started to come on when starting the car, but goes out after about 5 minutes. I ran the OBDC code reader and the computer did not capture any codes. Any ideas on what this could be? BarryL 2002 Seal Grey 2.7 Base Tip 200,235 milesby BarryL - Main Forum
That is awesome, Marc! I just hit the 200,000 mark this last week. I have not been on this site for awhile and it is great to come back and see that you are still here. Barry (Santa Cruz) 2002 Seal Grey 2.7 Base Tip 200,187 milesby BarryL - Main Forum
Sorry for your loss Mark. Particularly loosing both parents withing such a short time. I bought my boxster one month before my mom died in 2002 and was able to give her a ride in my new car . She was so happy for me. my dad also rode in my boxster before he died nine years later. Just another reason why I have no plans to replace my boxster with 192k miles. I wish you we'll getting through theby BarryL - Main Forum
They said they wouldn't do it and I agree that being associated with other things that may go wrong with a higher mileage car played into their thinking. Knowing that Pedro and Marc have gotten in the high 200K mileage range is encouraging.by BarryL - Main Forum
I agree...When the LN engineering installer told me that he would not consider changing out my IMS due to the mileage of my car, I thought, geez, I love this car and want to keep it going. You and Pedro give all of us with older Boxsters hope and reason for not giving up when we start anticipating upcoming repair bills.by BarryL - Main Forum
Consider replacing the bearing due to the mileage 187k on my 2002 boxster tip. Does everyone agree I should not bother with the retrofit for that reason?by BarryL - Main Forum
I just paid $1,300 for a water pump replacement at my indie in Dublin, CA.using Porsche genuine parts. I had previously replaced the water pump with an oem water pump (a different shop in Santa Cruz) for about $650 about a year ago and it didn't last. Ouch. Yes, my IMS failed, causing total engine failure 2 months after 4 year warranty, in 2006. Porsche replaced engine under goodwill, and was told the IMS was an "upgraded" version, whatever that means. LN was not available that I know of at the time. I still love driving my boxter as well as the day I drove it out of the showroom floor in 2002, and after the failure, I was determined that I woulby BarryL - Main Forum
With all this discussion on IMS replacement, and discussion about when one might replace thier IMS bearing, I am wondering how many miles you have on your current IMS bearing and if you have any plans to replace: 1. Boxster year and mileage? 2002 base tip - 165K 2. Miles on current IMS bearing? 126K Not thinking about replacing 3. IMS ever replaced and Mileage when replaced (if appliable)? I found taking out the battery very helpful in getting access to the hoses and ensuring they were placed on the new heater core cleanly.by BarryL - Main Forum
I will be replacing my heater core this weekend. I received the unit but it does not have the foam seal at the top of the unit, so I guess I will be inspecting the old one and using it. It was interesting that there was such a wide price differential in these OEM units... the veleo (sp?) unit I received seemed to be synomous with the ACM brand some other retailers sell for about $100 more. I was hoping that one solution was prodominately favored over another. My thoughts on GAHH replacement is that it would be nice not to get out of the car to chop everytime I wanted to put the top down but I had heard the window size was smaller. But everyone responding to the poll seems to be happy with the solution they went with. Thanks for taking the time to respond... I have a decision to mby BarryL - Main Forum
