Car running OK now. Gas station "prepared to write a check", just need to know for how much. Shop preparing bill. When it happened, SIL left car on roadside to go to house for a few minutes. When he came back, police were there. Officer said there were a lot of broken down cars that night, four within a half mile of SIL's. Alby Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum

I am noticing road noise on the passenger side and the top fabric is not sealing behind the passenger door. There is an elastic strap there that is supposed to keep it in place but the other end is free and the elastic is dead. How big a deal is it to repair this? What would a top place charge to fix it? Anyone know? Thanks, Alby Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum
QuotePedro (Weston, FL) The only other time I've had "bad fuel" was also Shell. It was about 20 years ago and they had added an additive that would damage the fuel level units. They did reimburse, but since that day I think I've only used Shell once or twice on the highway because I was on fumes. Happy Boxstering, Pedro I guess "bad gas" could mean too many other things. My Boxster morphed into a 2015 Cayenne Diesel. A unique opportunity due to Dieselgate. 4 years of unlimited mileage warranty - two year extension to new car warranty and two years CPO. Warranty until 1/15/2023 with unlimited mileage. It is only 2 seconds slower 0-60 than my 2002 base, at least before they brought the engine into compliance. QuoteJohn from PA QuoteAl in Melbourne Beach I wish I had done that. I had two fail for the same reason (mode button). First one Pedro replaced under warranty, the warranty unit failed in about two more years. I tossed it. Looking for a good replacement. It is beginning to look like my first hunch was correct. You know, suspect the last thing you did -- bought gas. The preliminary conclusion is that there was no engine damage except for that caused by bad gas. They drained the tank and it was UGLY! Engine is now running but not well. They plan to change plugs, clean injectors, flush fuel lines, replace filter, etc. I don't know what they areby Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum
Saw the PM, thanks. This was a sudden and catastrophic failure. One minute he was driving home from getting fuel for a trip the next day and about 4 blocks from his house engine started running rough, check engine light came on (solid), low oil level warning (he thinks) came up (no apparent oil loss) and the engine died. Based on no previous or incident noises, and the catastrophic stop I thinby Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum
Picture I found shows that 4,5,6 driven by front side of IMS, 1,2,3 driven by back side. Looks like IMS bearing fail could cause problem with 4,5,6 but could also be tensioner problem or chain failure. Don't think there will be any more conclusive results until engine is dropped and opened.by Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum
Codes were P0304, 0305, 0306. Quote from shop: "General misfire on cylinders 4, 5, & 6. Compression good on one half of the engine, bad on side corresponding to the failing cylinders. Part of timing system rotating, others not, may be causing chain to skip/fail. Will bring into the shop today to get more comprehensive look. Thanks Mark, They had it towed to a local shop they use for their other German cars. They couldn't see how they could tow it Pedro's at 10 PM. Tech called today and said (quoting my SIL) "codes indicate major engine damage on one side". He said the plan was to do compression test tomorrow. Thanks. I saw that and it made me wonder if the car would go into limp mode if the oil level was too low. Alby Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum
Son-in-law just went to get gas for a PCA event tomorrow. On the way back home, car started running rough, no power, CEL, low oil level message came on. No oil on the ground. Waiting on tow truck to flatbed it to their mechanic. Any ideas? He does not have a code reader. I would think bad gas but can't explain low oil level light. Does the 987 have a limp mode it goes into when oil level lby Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum

Thanks! I did pull the liner and looked, but apparently not well enough. I could see the wiring harness disappear up on top of the wheel well, but couldn't see the firewall penetration. The PP photos should help. Alby Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum
I tagged this onto a previous post, but got no response. I thought it might do better standalone. I have installed a license plate backup camera which is supported by the Alpine head unit I used to replace my CDR-220 but I can't see a way to get the cables through the firewall. All the cable bundles seem to disappear into the top of the fender well and I can't see the boot where they pass throby Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum
Pedro - Did you install wired cameras, and if so, how did you get the wiring through the firewall? I got a camera to go with my new Alpine head unit and I can't figure out how to snake the wires. Thanks, Alby Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum
If my car doesn't start on the first try, because I stop cranking too soon or my foot moves on the clutch pedal or whatever, I have to turn the ignition switch all the way back to off before it will crank again. So my question is, where is that interlock? In the ignition switch, the DME, or??? Sounds like that could be the problem. Alby Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum
For the alcohol, go to a drug store and get the 90% (or higher) Isopropyl. Not all stores carry it. The standard 70% has more water in it. Alby Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum
When you pull up the parking brake handle, does the light in the instrument cluster illuminate? If not the switch is bad. That is what happened to my car. You may be able to pop off the side of the console and short the switch to get the top up. Alby Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum
I have a similar problem which I have attributed to the steering wheel locking mechanism. When the switch is working correctly there is a distinct "thunk" of the steering locking when I pull the key out of the switch. When that happens, the next start will be trouble-free. If I don't hear the thunk sometimes I can wiggle the wheel and it will lock. If not, and I don't start the car every fewby Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum

If you want to maintain your Becker, I may still have a Parrot system that I pulled out when my CDR-220 front panel died. If I can find it, I'll send it to you for postage.
