I'm interested in this answer as well. Lost mine at BRBS but made it home OK just had to work the window up and down several times each time i closed the door. Pedro warned me away from the "chinese-made" ones, but he and several others said they were available in the $140 range. I found one that says it is the "three-rail" style and you might have to drill to install new window channels". Iby Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum

I replaced a bottom cushion once. Stretching the new one over the frame was a two person job. It was from GAHH, so maybe wasn't quite the right size, but probably was just tight because it was new. I tried front first, back first, everything I could think of. It was a bear to do but in the end looked just like the original.by Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum

Exactly my experience at about 47k in my 2002 base. Bearing was just beginning to exhibit some axial wobble.by Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum
One of the local municipalities here has a white pu. I have also seen unfortunate people stopped by unmarked SUV's on 95 to and from BRBS. Alby Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum
You're right Guenter. I was confusing two separate attempts. The credit card and t-shirt is for the stuff we get as samples at BRBS, Langka, I think it was. It didn't work well for me either. Maybe there is a pattern here. Anyway, the trouble I was posting about was the DCC. I couldn't get very good smoothing results with the wiping and then when I used the polishing liquid, it got gray. Has anyone used DCC on Arctic Silver with success? I maybe let mine sit in the garage too long, or I'm not good with it, or maybe it just doesn't work so good on metallc paint. It looked OK until I tried to polish out the excess with the t-shirt on the credit card, but it was like all the metallic was on the surface and after smoothing it was too dark and gray looking. Hoping for some pointersby Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum
I replaced mine with a complete 2003 top from a recycler in NJ. That way I get (imo) better lines and more visibility. With Maurice's instructions and help via telephone it was a simple job, only took a couple hours as I recall. Cost was about $1200 including truck freight. Last time I checked tops were more expensive but prices fluctuate. I saw them for $700-$800 when I didn't need one. :-)by Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum
Yeah, I found it (after I removed the console) last year at BRBS. Came in from the fun run and couldn't get the top up. Had to strip the wires and twist them together to get the top up. Left them that way for a week or so until I got home and got a replacement switch. It's all better now.....by Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum
Did you lose anything else? When I lost headlights except for pulling on the stalk I had also lost windshield wipers and A/C blower. It was the ignition switch. The headlights are all individually fed and fused. The only common items are the selector switch and the ignition switch. I have heard of a lot of ignition switch failures ( I had one) but no light selector switch failures. I'm goinby Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum

Sorry to hear and see that. But it looks like it should be ok after a session with the techno-buffer. Sounds like you are OK, but get checked out anyway. +1 on the carbon fiber or orange suggestions!!by Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum
I don't know about the 2001 but my 2002 has a place at the bottom of the fuse panel where you can connect another battery to operate the electric hood release. I have also used the cigarette lighter as a way to get power into the car. I recommend you NOT connect the trickle charger with the battery disconnected as it may not be regulated well enough to protect the electronics in the car. I haveby Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum

In addition to drying it out you'll need to get any corrosion, mold, or mildw off the board. My suggestion would be to go to a drug store and get some 90% or higher isopropyl alchohol. DO NOT USE RUBBING ALCHOHOL. Put some in a bowl, wet a toothbrush, and scrub as much of the board as you can. Once the board looks clean wet it good one one side holding the board vertical and allow the liquidby Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum
Yes, I am. The first BRBS I attended someone had one that was completely covered with various size pockets for detailing supplies and tools. I've never seen another one.by Al in Melbourne Beach - Parts for Sale
Glad you found one Kevin. I have a friend here who really liked mine and wanted one. I'll check with her to see if she's still interested. Alby Al in Melbourne Beach - Parts for Sale
Several years ago at BRBS I saw a spare tire cover with pockets for detailing supplies. Does anyone know a source for one? Thanks, Alby Al in Melbourne Beach - Parts for Sale
I got mine from Chris Brown at CB Racing. Regrettably, he is no longer making them. I found a link (don't know the date) that said that someone on the 356 registry had a contact to get the original Porsche bag from Europe (NLA in the US) but they were $160 or more.by Al in Melbourne Beach - Parts for Sale
Before leaving for BRBS and while there I had a problem where the ignition switch did not want to turn past the steering wheel unlock point. I planned to buy and replace the electrical part, but as a long shot I bought some graphite and shot it into the key slot using several small squirts over a couple of days, working the key in and out and rotating it each time. I don't have a 996, but in my 986 fuse diagram, it appears that the 996 and 986 fuses for the same features are the same. It is the same fuse as for the cigarette lighter, at least it was in my Boxster.by Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum
At BRBS I mentioned to someone that I found my 2003 top online and promised to send them the source but I can't remember who it was. The site, recommended by Maurice I think, is www.car-parts.com. I got a great condition top for $900 including freight from NF to FL. Their caregories require some thinking, the convertible tops are under "roofs".by Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum
Thanks to Karl, Nell, Ron, Mary, Bryson, Kathy, and all others who made this the best yet. Reserved for next year and already looking forward to it. Had a nice drive up the parkway to the house and looking forward to a relaxing week in the mountains before heading back to 96 degree Florida on Sunday. Hope to see everyone again next year.by Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum
Hi Stefan, Thanks for the info... Saw you at dinner but didn't get to say hello. When it acts up the key will turn to the point where it should unlock the wheel and won't turn any farther. If I pull the key out there is no clunk, probably because the wheel is still locked. I tried wiggling the wheel, but it didn't help. After several more tries it worked normally and has been fine since.by Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum
The ignition switch on my 2002 has started occasionally acting up (again). Must be a BRBS thing. The first time it failed on me was at BRBS several years ago. I got it replaced under warranty then, but now I'm on my own. The dealer replaced the electrical part first, but that was only partially successful, so he then replaced the complete assembly, less the lock mechanism with the (new and imby Al in Melbourne Beach - Main Forum
