Changed to snow tires and did my front brakes today. Got to wondering about Saw this and thought others might be interested I'm starting to understand why those brakes are so expensive. Oh and in case you ever get the idea that the passenger side power outlet is extra convenient for using your air compressor, let me advise you against itby Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
Granted, putting holes in those nice curves is hardly fun, but I have a thing for symmetry, and I don't think I could stand seeing the plate off to the side. Even if I change my mind, there's a machine shop at work that I've been meaning to learn how to use. Making my own bracket would be a good project for that. Maybe I'll call the Pelican guys to ask how this is supposed to go on. Could beby Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
Has anyone ever installed the factory front license plate mount on a 987? The police in my small town are worried that they won't recognize me if I'm headed toward them . I bought the plate holder from pelican, and all that came was a curved plastic thing which would become the backing of the plate. It looks like it will fit the contour of the front bumper, but there is nothing to soften the pby Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
My boxster had been in the shop for about a month, and that was just long enough for my perpetual online window-shopping to turn into a buy. I hope your boxster comes back to life, and that you hang on to both!by Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
Looks like you've been having a great time Laz! I just left Morro Bay last June, and your pictures make me wish I'd stuck around a bit longer. May you have many more long trips like this ahead of you!by Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
I had thought of selling my 986 after buying the Cayman, but I couldn't do it. I was in los angeles at the time, but now live in a very small town in Iowa, and my driveway has become a local attraction. Great looking car by the way. Hope you enjoy it as much as it sounds like you will.by Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum

My user name is deceptive -- I'm nolonger in Berlin or LA, but in Iowa. I'm told temperatures get below 40F here Sounds like we should talk offline. I'll send you a message. edit -- I just updated my username in the control center -> profile. Didn't realize it was so easy to do! I didn't know what that phrase meant at all. Makes sense now. I'm a couple hours from the nearest dealer, so I guess I won't have a chance at something like that. Do you know if more or less any 16" wheel would fit? Sorry if it's a dumb question. I've never changed wheels.by Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum

What do you mean by take-off porsche wheels? Is that a brand, or do you mean imitation?by Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
I'm hunting around for a set of winter wheels for my 03 boxster. The tire rack site had some attractive wheel + tire packages, but unfortunately it comes up as unavailable for my car. They do offer tires (Pirelli Winter Sottozero Serie II, 205/55R16 front, 225/50/R16 rear). Anyone have experience with those tires? More to the point though, I didn't know that 16 inch wheels actually fit this cby Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
I just finished a great road trip from Pasadena to Grinnell, Iowa, where I'll start a new job. Me and a friend drove my 2003 Boxster and 2007 Cayman. Hope that between the two of them, I'll be able to get around in the winter. The previous (original) owner of the Cayman had installed some Eibach springs, giving it a stiffer and lower ride. It's loads of fun, but the clearance is narrow enoughby Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum

Out of curiosity, I looked on cars.com for all 1998 boxsters for sale. They had 31 listed. A few didn't have asking prices or mileage shown. Of the remainder, the average asking price was $12,275. There were 6 cars with around 70k-80k miles. For those, the asking prices were spread around almost evenly between 9k and 14k.by Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum

Has anyone here tried this aux-input kit from suncoast in a 2007 car? I don't have PCM, but I do have the cd changer. Assuming the kit would really work on my car, I'm curious as to whether or not I could do the install all on my own, or if some special (dealer only) porsche software or computer is needed to get it working.by Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
It must cost all of 75 cents, and it's quite handy. The wrench isn't such a loss since anyone with tools would have a substitute, but the peg is unique.by Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
While I'm having a great time getting to know my new cayman, I ran into something kinda odd. It seems that the 987s (or at least my 2007 car) didn't come with a very substantial set of tools for roadside work. I have a wheel lock socket, a compressor (nice), some tire sealant, and some little tools to remove the headlights, but that's about it. What I was hoping to find was possibly a lug-nutby Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
Laz -- I've been behind on my board watching, but shouldn't you have uploaded about 1000 pictures by now? Congrats on the car!by Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
After all those encouraging stories about winter daily driving, I bought this new-to-me 2007 base cayman. It's in great shape, and I hope that between it and my 2003 base boxster, I will be able to get through the rough winters aheadby Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
Thanks much for these replies. They have me more into this idea than I was before. I've still got to talk to some locals (one of my new workmates has a BMW M3, and another has a honda S2000, so maybe we can make a support group). Oh and I'm now thinking of bring both the 03 box and a new-to-me 07 cayman to Iowa. This because the box market isn't so great for selling (at least for overly attaby Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
Soon I'll be moving to Iowa, where I'll have a house with a driveway but no garage. I'm planning to keep my 03 boxster, or maybe sell it in favor of an 07 cayman. Is it crazy to consider still using the car as a daily driver? By daily, I really mean more like weekly for groceries etc, since I'll be in a small town and living across the street from my office. Strange to see two transmission replacement threads so close. Looks like this isn't as rare an event as I thought. My indy mechanic said he trusts and has experience with the source of the used transmission he found for my car. My bill will be about a quarter of your figure. To each his own, but I think the huge price difference justifies the risk of a used transmission.by Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
