They sure got spendy on facelift things once they decided that the transmission was in good shape. Replacing the lights cost more than buying the car.by Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
Any way that you can get to glendora ridge road will be fine. From Santa Monica, it will likely take an hour before you are off the freeway if you leave when there's no weekday traffic (say, between 10am and 3pm, or before 7am). You would probably go 10E, to 605N, to 210E. From there, I like to get off at Azusa ave, and drive around reservoir the with its curious WWII era (I think) testing ramby Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
I've lived in various parts of California for years. My all time favorite drive in the LA area is the Glendora Ridge Road. Here's what it looks like: I wouldn't go near sunset or hollywood blvds unless you enjoy traffic jams.by Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
There aren't any options for alternative projections. Any choice will have flaws of its own, but it would be fun to experiment. Maybe that will be added in the future, or maybe you could edit the OS by hand They finally appeared on street view. Guards red sure looks nice against the snow, if you ask me. I've been having a lot of fun this week playing around with the new sphere-cam feature on the most recent android. Here are a couple examples with my red cayman in them. I finally have a good excuse for including the car in my photos -- in order to shot the full sphere, there's pretty much no other option unless I want to move the car midway through the task. If I remember right, the first bby Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum

I whole heartedly agree -- those switches are cheap enough that if it's acting unusual, replacement is in order. Soon, it shall be done.by Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
After noticing that the brake lights didn't seem to respond to the pedal, I went into the upsidedown ninja position and fiddled with the brake pedal switch. One of the cheaper solutions was to sort of jiggle it as it can get stuck. That seems to have done the trick. Oh and Marc, the problem started up before the battery replacement, but thanks for that tip. Shame that my cheapo OBD2 code readby Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
The warning lights "psm off" and "abs" recently turned on in my 2003 base boxster. I first noticed it after having to drive in reverse for about 200 feet on a gravel road on a fairly cold night (maybe 15F outside). I don't know if that could be related, but thought I'd throw it out there since coldness seemed to play a role in this for a few others when I googled it. I called the tire rack folks to ask what they thought. They thanked me for catching it and said it shouldn't have gone through. They asked that I refuse the original order when it arrives, and they shipped out a corrected order and charged me only the difference. Impressive service.by Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
I've ordered a set of snow tires from the tirerack folks for a 2007 base cayman. The tires are on their way to me. However, I just noticed that the size of the rears that are being shipped doesn't match the owner's manual or even tirerack's own online suggested size for my car. I ended up placing the order over the phone (long story) and I wonder if there was some miscommunication between me anby Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
What exactly would be getting wound? It's not like the transmitters are mechanical. Besides, I thought those watches were wound by the oscillation of our arms, not a regular rotation. Anyhow, given that these are only recently required elements of cars, I'm sure that the sensor designs will evolve over time. Tossing out "why didn't they just ..." statements usually underestimates the amount oby Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
There seem to be several offers for about half the price of what tirerack had. I wouldn't be surprised if the batteries were near dead in some of those, but who knows. I think I'm resigned to going sensorless. It occurred to me that the wheels I'm using are from the 986 era, so the sensors may not even fit on them. Besides, my new house has a lot of sidewalk, and I've been drooling over the sby Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
Oh I agree that it's a great feature, and I don't mind that it's mandated etc. However, after some pricey christmas travel and just buying a new house, for that cost I can go at least this one winter measuring the old fashioned way. I'll have to get the tires mounted on my 986 rather than the 987 though, since the tire store folks tell me they aren't allowed to mount sensor-less wheels onto a cby Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
Does anyone know of an inexpensive source for the TPMS sensors? I've got a base 2007 cayman - which I hope counts as a boxster The tire rack folks have them, but they are $90 each. I thought there might be another source out there. I tried driving on sensor-less wheels for a while, and the car just complained that the system wasn't working. I'd completely forgotten about being able to put windows on my mac. Also, good to know that the airbags are actually functional. Thanks!by Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
Somehow I got the impression that it only worked with windows. I haven't had access to a windows computer in about 10 years, so I'm kinda out of luck with that. I've thought of getting a cheap windows laptop just for this actually...by Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
What a strange way to cause the light to go on. I wonder what the reason is. Do you happen to know if the airbag systems could still be functioning normally even with the light on? The nearest porsche dealer is hours from me.by Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
After recently replacing the battery in my 2007 cayman, the airbag warning light has stayed on. I thought it might go off after I drove some miles, but I've gone tens of miles now and it is still on. Anyone know what this means, and how to fix it?by Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
The 986 does have the factory litronic lights, and washers. I guess i'll have to borrow someone else's similarly equipped 987 to do a fair comparison. Guenter you should try the washers after one of the spray nozzles has broken off. Not only do you wash the whole car, but also surrounding cars and low flying planesby Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
I've got a sound system in my house where the externally powered subwoofer doesn't come on until the sound has been going for 10 seconds or so. It sounds identical to that, only that it goes back off too I was going to look for some loose connection too, just not sure where to start. Hope I don't start taking apart the door.by Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
Has anyone ever noticed the low end of their sound system going on and off intermittently in a 987? I'm not sure which sound package I have, but it's just an ordinary looking radio without satellite navigation screens. I recently blew a fuse by trying to run the air compressor from the outlet in the passenger leg area. I was hoping that by some luck this could explain it, but after replacing tby Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
I switched the window washer fluid for my cars to a winter version today. I just let the sprayers go until they ran dry, then filled. Discovered that the 986 holds more than one bottle of the stuff, while the 987 holds less than a bottle. Hooray for the 986! Then again, my 986 has headlight sprayers while my 987 doesn't, so maybe that's the reason.by Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
It made me realize what I hate about most of porsche's advertisements -- the smug one-liners about living outside the box or recapturing your youth, etc. Just show the cars and shut up. They'll speak for themselves.by Steve (Morro Bay) - Main Forum
I've been asked what to do with a 2002 boxster that has been in storage for two years, and which doesn't seem to start. I'm told that it cranks, but that is all. I suggested towing it to an indy or dealer and having them try to diagnose it. I think that's sound advice, but thought I would also ask for any simple suggestions here. Any ideas?
