in my 2000S with 100k miles, given the cost of your car over mine. IMS IS an issue in these cars. I live in a town of 50K people. I work at facility with about 1000 employees. I know of 8 Boxsters on base, including mine. Two out of the eight have had failures, one a 2001S with 58K miles, the other, a one owner 2003 base with 37K miles. I recognize the data as a small sample set but it haveby dghii - Main Forum

by the outcome. I have mixed feelings about resigning Albert. He''s earned every penny of his last contract and will be a huge for whoever signs him. It can really strap the franchise for years to come by signing him to such a long term, high dollar contract. You could get a closer and all star SS and still have money in the bank.by dghii - Main Forum
I appreciate the job he did and salute him for taking the opportunity to go out on his terms. As for Albert, where is he going to go? I'm not saying he won't leave and he won't be missed but who can really consider signing him? NYY? - The already have an aging club, Huge payroll and have an all star first baseman under (big) contract Boston? - Nope. Albert doesn't drink. Besides, Gonzalez sby dghii - Main Forum
I moved to Florida in 1982 from the St. Louis area. The Cards beat the Brewers that year right after I moved. I loved it. Now, many years later, I still follow the team and enjoy baseball and the amazing twists and turns a team experiences in a long season. That being said, I've never experienced anything like the last two months...getting into the playoffs on the last day with lots of help aby dghii - Main Forum
How did you determine your CV joints were 'bad'? Where they making noise? My boots were tore but I had no noise or strange behavior from the axles, hence, I opted for the boot kits.by dghii - Main Forum
For Castrol fans 5 quarts of Castrol Syntec with Bosch premium filter (didn't get filter for the Boxster) for $22.99 after $7 mail in rebate. Filter has seperate rebate for $2. Limit 2 oil deals and 4 filter deals. Oh yeah, you also get a free leather football via mail!by dghii - Main Forum
Didn't mean it that way...just in fun. My apologies.by dghii - Main Forum
Simple. How about I'll send you $400 if you agree to pay to replace my engine due to an IMS failure during the rest of my ownership? Just kidding, of course.by dghii - Main Forum
What do you suggest Boxster owners do to be proactive in regard to IMS failures?by dghii - Main Forum
Did the work on a 98 Boxster that I was recently sold. When I bought the car, I noticed the vibration at about 2500 rpm. I also thought the car had a bit of a rough idle. Both issues solved with the motor mount R/R. I had read about it on this board and other but was truly amazed at the difference it made.by dghii - Main Forum

I can stand under the car and have access to stands and supports. You and I took two different approaches. I left the exhaust in place and removed the hub from the control arms.by dghii - Main Forum
The exhaust will get in the way in completely removing the axle. If you consider what I was suggesting, you only remove the inner side on support it on either the suspension or the exhaust.by dghii - Main Forum
Do you think you could have done it with the wheel hub end of the axle still attached? If one of mine rips again, I'm going to try it.by dghii - Main Forum
My scenarios were base on action, not inaction. Risk analysis is based on two components; likelihood and consiquence. The component that is difficult to quantify is likelihood and hence, the topic of endless debate on this and other boards. The consequences of failure is more easily quatified as the high cost of engine replacement. I agree that replacement of the bearing while doing the clutcby dghii - Main Forum
Apparently, The half-shafts on the 'S' model are more suseptable to trearing due to the more severe angle between the transaxle and the wheel hub. For what it's worth, I bought my car 3 1/2 years ago with 76k miles. I've checked the boots every time I've had the car on the rack for various maintenance (oil changes, fuel filter, wheel bearing last fall etc.) The last time I'd had the car up inby dghii - Main Forum
Over the last couple of months, I replaced all four boots on the two half shafts after discovering that three out of the four had torn. After researching my options regarding replacing the entire axles or CV joints, or boots, I determined that replacing the boots were all that was required in my case. Following the excellent guidance on Pedro's site and other forums, I removed the half shafts Rby dghii - Main Forum
There is so much discussion and concern over risks associated with the IMS. I do not see a new bearing or a detection device as the end all, be all to 'solve' the issue. It is simply nice to have options to consider as opposed to waiting/worrying about a failure and the pending financial consequence. That being said, I don't know if I'd incorporate the device in my car, just as I have not ruby dghii - Main Forum

I have two unopened liters of Porsche Manual Transmission Fluid - 75W - 90 Manual Transmission Fluid that I purchased a few months ago for a Boxster this that I have since sold. Suncoast lists the gear oil at $28.90/liter plus tax and shipping. I'll take $55 shipped anywhere in the US. Please PM me. Thanks, Donby dghii - Parts for Sale
I've used the Meguires and Mothers clay kits without issue more than a dozen times on six different cars (pcars, bmws, fords, alfa). I cannot understand what could have happened. There are different grades of clay available from different detailer vendors. The kits I bought were retail from Walmart or Pep Boys. Where did you get your kit? Did you take any pics of your scratches?by dghii - Main Forum
Tom, Don't fret, you still have pad left! The indicator is that you pads have reached a wear level that they will need to be replaced. The indicator does not mean to reflect that the car is not drivable until the pads are replaced. Your drive back north will, I assume, be mostly interstate which is easy on brakes. Head home and get your pads changed after you arrive. Drive safe!by dghii - Main Forum
The cause of smoke and smell I experienced last summer was from CV joint grease getting flung out of three torn CV boots. I discovered the problems a few months ago while doing a gear oil change. There was grease everywhere, including on the exhaust. I have since replace the boots and cleaned things up and am back in business.by dghii - Main Forum
I had the pleasure of learning all about the convertible top and clamshell operations on a 1998 Boxster and then my 2000 Boxster S. First off, kudos to those who provided such wonderful instructions, pictures and support. I'd like to add a rather small contribution to knowledge base. I apologize if my information is already known but I didn't see it in my searches. 1. I was scared I would reby dghii - Main Forum
I had a bad passenger side cable and upon replacement, managed to break one of pivots ends on the same side. Last week I got the new pivot ends in and finished the job. While I had things apart, I greased the rails and the pivot ends with white lithium grease. I can't really say I noted any real improvement but at least I know its been tended to.by dghii - Main Forum
Feel is important. Cars are all a little bit different so a quarter, third, or half a turn are all in the ballpark. One or two extra revolutions are not. Risk is in tightening too much, too little is easily detected and corrected. BTW, I recently replaced what I think what may have been the original plugs in a 98 boxster with 117K miles. Man, the plugs were tight! I cracked the ceramic onby dghii - Main Forum
quote "It's not rocket science." Correct. Don't over think this. Forget the torque wrench. It's a spark plug, Hand tight and then give it another half a turn or so. Too tight buys you nothing but potential problems. Besides, how do you know your torque wrench is to spec? When what the last time it was calibrated and to what resolution? Point is, the wrench may not get you any better resulby dghii - Main Forum
