Sorry but that was my first impression looking at the pics. I'd love to see the interior as I felt that the 987 interior was a dramatic improvement to my my 986. Dunno about the spoiler extending over the tail lights...I know my teenage boys would think its cool. I think its....goofy.by dghii - Main Forum
I'm aware of the bleeder assembly but I guess I dismissed it as it comes with the coolant tank I replaced last summer. I will check it out.by dghii - Main Forum
2000S with a little issue. After turning off the car with warm engine I've noticed that when I open the rear trunk I can hear what sounds like pressure releasing from the expansion tank. It is not real loud but certainly noticeable. I replaced my coolant tank and cap (.04) last summer due to a cracked tank. Coolant was changed about the same time with a 50/50 blend of Porsche coolant and disby dghii - Main Forum
Just to wrap up this thread, I sold the 98 Boxster today to a coworker who could not wait for me to finish this project. He saw the car when I first got it and started driving it to work and mentioned he would be interested in the car when I completed my work on the car. I purchased the car with some recent receipts (see earlier posts) and ended up spending about $1,100 on repairs and maintenanby dghii - Main Forum
I considered the Swepco 201 but given I have to pay for shipping regard 4less, the Porsche gearbox fluid was about the same $$. Agreed that any DOT 4 brake fluid will suffice.by dghii - Main Forum
In the last few weeks, both of my Boxsters have exhibited the exterior rubber trim folding in when I put the windows down. It is worse in the 1998 than the 2000 but they're both doing it. I have clayed and cleaned the windows inside and out. What can I treat the rubber with as a lubricant that will not leave leave the windows in a mess every time I put them down?by dghii - Main Forum
Your problem does sound hydraulic, given that it wasn't great after your clutch R/R but has gotten progressively worse. I think you are on the right track the the MC and SC replacement. Best of luck! NBC but I have an 84 Alfa Spider that years ago had a leaky slave cylinder, I successfully replaced it and a month later, the MC started to leak. Replaced the MC and then my clutch pivot pin sheby dghii - Main Forum
....I feel your pain. I tackled the job because of torn CV boots. I had done the drivers side rear last November as it was shot. The passenger side was ok but since I had the axle out and control arms disconnected I knew that I might as well do the bearing. I am fortunate to have access to an Auto Hobby shop with lifts and great tooling, including a 50 ton press. The axle and the bearing R/Rby dghii - Main Forum
On my 2000S last year I spent a couple of months messing with tire pressure and rotating tires etc.trying to chased down a similar sound. I replaced the wheel bearing on the rear drivers side and it was like having a new car! My car had about 95K miles but is a similar year as yours. Replacing bearings on these cars is not unusual. BTW, I got mine at Autohausaz for $39.by dghii - Main Forum
I think I'll see if it's possible to add a layer of insulation to the AC box to reduce or hopefully eliminate the condensation.by dghii - Main Forum
Hopefully, one day my teenage boys will agree! Great photo that I'm sure you'll cherish. Pretty cool of you Mom to find it and give it to you. She deserves a hug.by dghii - Main Forum
My son has been driving my 2000 Boxster S while I sort out the 98 Boxster I picked up a few weeks ago. My son said that he had noticed the passenger side floorboard getting wet lately. Last night, we swapped cars so I could do a few things to the car. As I worked on it last night, I confirmed that the carpet was very wet. I got it dried out overnight and decided to investigate today. Todayby dghii - Main Forum
I am still negotiating with the seller due my dissatisfaction with the condition of the rear window so I'd rather not discuss specifics. The tops and frames I've seen online (with soft window) have ranged from $300 to $800. Mine was around the middle, inculding shipping from LA to Florida. I figured a new top without a frame was going to run around $300 to $350 and I would be installing (and mby dghii - Main Forum
..Red or white...just broke one (red) tonight on my 2000s while replacing cables. I've ordered new ends from the Netherlands but they won't be here for a few weeks. Just wondered if anyone had any old stuff. I'd love to finish getting my top back together. Thanks, Don Please PM me.by dghii - Parts for Sale

Got some parts in and spent part of the day at the Auto Hobby Shop. I planned to attack the front motor mount, fuel filter, plugs and r/r the gear oil. The only rack available was a drive on so I ditched the gear box oil task as I didn't want to remove the cross braces and plate with the car on the ground. I did the mount first and found the task to be very easy. The numerous instructions avaby dghii - Main Forum
Sounds like my 1982 Alfa Spider I owned back in the day. I had similar issues (slipped timing chain @20 mph, head gasket) on a garage kept car that was less than 4 years old and had about 20k mils (don't know exactly as the speedo quit working at 10k miles). I punted and sold the car to cut losses. There is no way that you should face this repair bill on a motor with 27K miles. If you have anby dghii - Main Forum
picked up a used top and frame off of a 2001 Boxster from a source in Los Angeles (not a distmantler) and installed it last night on my 98 Box. Removing the top and frame is as easy as everyone has said...even for me! Of course, I it did take me a little longer than the pro's but I really had no problems. My new top bolted on easily. The two screws on each side were a little tough to get at.by dghii - Main Forum

It is a beautiful car! Pictures will not do it justice. The one I saw at a dealership was the first Boxster I'd seen in that color. Believe it or not, I had '80 Fiat Spider back in 1982 that was 'almost' the same color...mine was more of a 'root beer' brown metallic. I'm sure you'll enjoy your new car. Best of luck with it!by dghii - Main Forum
Suncoast will sell you new knobs...I think they're about $16ea for the 986's, not sure if it is the same part for the 987's. I bought a spray can of plastic coat and sprayed mine. They came out ok... not as good as new but certainly acceptable. I think Pedro has some instructions in his DYI section.by dghii - Main Forum

I thought there might be an issue with my 98 but know I wonder how come I've never heard it in my 2000S. Neither car has thrown a code or CEL. Pedro, I am unfamiliar with the RoW Spec. Can you tell us more about it? Thank you.by dghii - Main Forum
I guess I'll have to read up on the air pump...My 2000 Boxster S does'nt seem to have the same behavior.by dghii - Main Forum
I know my system is not operating correctly as there is no way that the engine compartment temperature is greater than 60 degrees C after sitting all night. I just need some addtional information such as the temperature sensor location and testing parameters. I know I can swap relays but I don't think that will be the issue.by dghii - Main Forum
On the 98 Boxster I picked up a couple of weeks ago, I notice that my engine fan (passenger side engine compartment intake fan) will run the first time I start the car in the moring. The fan will run for a minute or two and then turn off. The engine compartment is obviously not warm after sitting all night so I would not expect the fan to run at that time. The fan does not necessarily turn onby dghii - Main Forum
There are lots of things to consider with the tranny out although not all may be worth considering for your particular car. How many miles on your clutch? Flywheel conditon? What about replacement of the IMS bearing? Coolant resevour tank is suppose to be much easier to change with the tranny out, as is the AOS. Oil fill tube cracked? Transmission mounts? Back up light switch?by dghii - Main Forum
I picture it as similar to replacing a wheel bearing in the wheel hub. I'm not talking material types or anything like that, just fitment and orientation issues.by dghii - Main Forum
