I went old school...pry bar pulling down and small sledge hammer hitting the wheel hub. Takes two people for best results. Leave the nut loose on the top of the threads in case you swing and miss!by dghii - Main Forum
Sometimes used cars give you extras you can't find on the sticker of a new car!by dghii - Main Forum
.....repack if just replacing torn boot(s). I replaced both sides of both axles last fall. $40 total for parts. My CV joints were not noisy. Not really a terrible job at all, just messy! Now that I think about it, most jobs I complete I think weren't 'terrible' even though there are always points in the work where I catch myself thinking "What the h_ll have I got myself into?"by dghii - Main Forum

I have the aux kit for my radio on my 2000S. It is simple to install and yes, the RCA jacks just 'dangle' in the back, allowing you to route the cables as you wish. I did not connect the charging circuit as my itouch will run 10 hours and my shuffle 18 hours between charges, much longer than I care to drive at one time. You can alway charge for a bit from your lighter if needed. Without the cby dghii - Main Forum
Nice job! I spoke to Trygve back in the fall about purchasing the same top for the 98 box I was fixing up. After looking at shipping to FL, we decided it wasn't prudent to pursue any further. That being said, Trygve was very helpful and I hope his project pans out well. I did do the same R/R of frame and top and found it to be a great way to renew a 986. Wish I could find a reasonable dealby dghii - Main Forum
...If it was me, and I didn't investigate, I'd simply worry about it all winter and be miserable. Get it checked out and evaluate your options, if needed, from there. At least with winter setting in, you'll have time to repair if needed without cutting in to your driving time. Hopefully though, it was 'nothing'. Best of luck. Keep us posted.by dghii - Main Forum
Yeah, I remember that Silver was not an initial color choice when the cars were introduced. Per Miata.net FAQ, "Silver Stone Metallic" started mid-year 1990 through 1992. I do remember the that it was also a big deal when Black/tan (1993) was introduced and the BRG/tan special edition (1991). I'd had Fiats and Alfa's up to the point of the Miata coming on scene. I was initially disappointed wby dghii - Main Forum
Yes, very limited color choices back then. My first choice would have been red but instead, I purchased the car 'used' with 4000 miles in the spring of 1991. It was an 'A' package and was a great car. I kept it for five years before selling it to a coworker.by dghii - Main Forum
Ditto here.. My 22 year old currently drives a 2000 Miata....that he rebuilt the engine on, along with a turbocharger and intercooler. At 19, he built the Megasquirt engine management kit and made a wiring harness for the system that allows him to go back to stock if ever so inclined. He ran around with a laptop in the passenger seat, doing mapping for different fuels and situations. The carby dghii - Main Forum
Sometimes folks are idiots and sometimes folks just make mistakes. I'm glad you were paying attention and I hope the other diver learned a lesson. I have four boys ranging from 15 to 22. I have 30 seconds at a time to try to make them appreciate and understand that while it is easy to drive a car, it is difficult to be a good driver.by dghii - Main Forum
Tires were from Discouttires online site. I got lucky as the tires had an $80 rebate for a set of four that expired the end of November. I went online the Monday after Thanksgiving (29th) and the site also had after Black Friday special knocking off an additional $50 off the set. Bottom line $405 delivered and I'm waiting (8 weeks) for the $80 gift card.by dghii - Main Forum
I've been fortunate to own some very fun sports cars over the years and I've enjoyed the Boxster more than any of them. It is an easy car to putt around town in but displays a whole other side when called upon. Hopefully, it will continue to be a reliable fun car for the foreseeable future. The door handle doesn't bother me at all as long as I check to make sure the interior lights go out! I'by dghii - Main Forum
...and the drivers side inner door handle spring broke! What timing! Along with a new battery yesterday, I picked up new tires (Hankook's for $325 incl. tax delivered) which I'll have mounted and balanced this weekend. Ready for the next 100K!by dghii - Main Forum
Given a new top with glass is still over $500, you just have to determine how many hours you save doing a bolt on versus canvas R/R.by dghii - Main Forum
Shipping options are limited AND expensive due to the bulk of the package. FEDEX and US Postal was crazy. UPS was about $200 to ship from SOCAL to northwest FL. The top I ended up with had some spots on the rear window that I could not remove. The seller graciously refunded $150 of the price. The guy I sold the car to didn't care one bit about the spots so maybe I was being too picky. If Iby dghii - Main Forum
My car was still starting but turning over a little slower than usual. I also noted two times that my radio turn itself off, then back on shortly after starting out in the morning. The radio may or may not be related to the battery but I have previously replaced my ignition switch back in August. Anyway, just for information, the old battery was an Interstate Group 85 from July 07 (previous oby dghii - Main Forum
...as well as on my 2000S when I discovered a broken passenger side cable and subsequently broke the pivot socket upon reassembly. I didn't find it hard to time the transmissions...well at least not nearly as hard as I tought it would be.by dghii - Main Forum
I've done this on a 98 and a 2000 and did not disconnect battery and encountered no problems. FWIW, my son and I recently removed the instrument cluster on his BMW 323CI to install chrome trim rings. We disconnected the wiring harness without messing with the battery and had on issues.by dghii - Main Forum
If you have access to press out your old mount, you can buy a new one (mount only, no frame) from Autohauz for $39. I bought one a few weeks ago and plan to install it during my next trip to the Auto Hobby shop. I'll post my impressions if I note anything of interest. BTW, I also bought a mount from Suncoast back in September for a 98 Box I was working on. I can't remember the actual P/N butby dghii - Main Forum
If you have no problem running 18awg and it will make you feel better, go ahead and do it. You have less resistance in the 18awg than the 20awg so no issues there. One thing to consider is making sure that the 18awg will work with the pins and sockets for the various connectors.by dghii - Main Forum

None of mine were having an issue but I had already set my bit to do the plugs and tubes at the same time. Sometimes its not even an issue with the part, its an issue with time. I just figured that with my luck, I'd replace plugs and a notice a drip a few weeks later...by dghii - Main Forum
Tires are fine. I haven't priced the cost of repair. I'm still in the mode wanting to thank my govt. for caring so much about my tires that they obligated me to another bill I neither want or need.by dghii - Main Forum
May be grease from a torn CV joint boot. The grease is flung out of the boot onto your exhaust resulting in a an smell that is present after driving the car. The condition of the four boots are easy to examine with your car elevated on jack stands or on a lift.by dghii - Main Forum
Second time things always seem to go faster, unless you're like me and add a wrinkle to the project! When I did my CV joints, I did the drivers side first. Like you say, the job took me a little longer than I thought it would but basically it went ok. A few weeks later I decided to tackle the passenger side....and do the wheel bearing at the same time. Now given that I did the drivers side reby dghii - Main Forum
You shouldn't have a problem with your installation. You might even want to consider a slight coat of grease on the axle and hub to ease installation and keep from having the same problem next time. All you need is a few threads through the hub. Tightening the axle nut will pull it the rest of the way through. I cheated and used a small air hammer and the my axles were out in about 2 seconds!by dghii - Main Forum
The 2001 was repaired by local Indy. The 2003 was repaired by a south Florida dealer (spring 2011) where the car was purchased new. Porsche picked up the cost of the engine.by dghii - Main Forum
