Anyone know what info is available on a 2000 non-S?by AndyInNYC - Main Forum
With the ODB2 plugged into the head unit, what info is available? There’s no TPMS, etc. I’m interested in doing this, but not if my only info is “engine is on” Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Boxsterra, You seem to have dug deeper into this than I have. What do I need from an Android unit (harness, etc.) to read car info, and what info is actually available? It's a 25 year old car. As far as the microphone, is there a reference you can point me to to running the cable for the microphone? What's the difficulty rating on this aspect? I have the 2000 with the Sports Package, so I hby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
I'm debating upgrading the CDR-220 in the Boxster to a double din unit with XM and wireless Carplay. If I get something that is 'maestro-ready', will I actually get any engine info from a 2000 car? Additionally, where is the best location to mount the microphones that come with these units? Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
My current battery isn’t holding a charge. a) what battery size am I supposed to buy? I’ve seen mention of two. b) are all of them vented? I think I need a 10mm and 14mm socket for removal and install. I have my radio code. Anything else need to know, or do I take it to my mechanic? Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Bluetooth is working well for streaming XM radio from phone and for GPS directions over the speakers (or both at the same time). I haven’t found a really good location for the mic yet - and this was my principal goal. Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
yes; it's a 3.5mm. I bought a 3.5 female/female adapter. The second bluetooth device I bought is this one on Amazon: Bluetooth AUX Adapter for Car, Bluetooth 5.3 Receiver, 3.5mm AUX Bluetooth Car Adapter for Home Stereo/Speakers/Wired Headphones, Hands-Free Calls, Dual Connection, Hi-Fi Music Bluetooth AUX adapter I already had the AUX adapter with a 3.5mm plug at the end. This one has mucby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Is there a setting to increase the aux level relative to FM, etc? My Bluetooth adapter works, but the sound level is really low - even with the stereo and phone volume cranked up to where I might destroy the speakers if a CD were playing. Thanks Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Long ago I bought an AUX adapter for my CDR-220 (or CDR-22, I have the CD player). It sold as a HQRP Audio Cable Blaupunkt to 3.5MM for Porsche Becker CDR-22 or CDR-220 on eBay for less than $10 eBay listing for AUX cable This unit has the blue connector for the back of the stereo and a male RCA jack to plug into the phone/device. This worked fine while I had a phone with an RCA jack - like moby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
I thought I'd post a follow up. The first time I dropped the car off at the mechanic (well, the tow truck driver did), there were apparently no engine codes to work with. My mechanic said, "we can try replacing things, but ...". So we chalked it up to a fluke and I drove it home. Unfortunately, I drove to Philly and had the car die again as I was waiting for a light to change to pull into myby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
My 2000 Base has smelled of unburned gas the last few days when started cold. No dash lights were present. On Saturday, I was in Park and idling while checking directions and the engine went dead. I sat for a moment and restarted the car without issue. 2 minutes later as I pulled away from a stop sign the engine went dead again. I rolled back into a spot along the curb (fortunately without aby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Either a gas cap or a cracked plastic tube somewhere (I have a 2000 - ask me how I know ) are the likely culprits. Inexpensive fix, usually.by AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Thanks for the part #. No idea on traffic, but best of luck. Waze is always your friend. Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
While replacing my map light in my 2000 Boxster (I cracked the replacement the first time), I either popped out or noticed that the 'weird eye' cover was missing. If it just popped out it is in "Never to be FoundLand". If the picture link doesn't work, there are two plastic 'eys' that are between the map light and the soft top release. The one on the passenger side is now missing. I assuby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Sprayed the passenger seat belt buckle with the suggested contact cleaner and “click it in” over a day or so. My mechanic recleared the code while doing other work for me and the light has remained off after a few dozen start-stop engine cycles over the past few weeks. Yay! Problem solved. But don’t ask me about the sad relationship between me, nails, tires and AAA. Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Still trying to figure this out. I gave it a squirt of silicone lubricating spray.by AndyInNYC - Main Forum
My stalk was replaced long ago - just after the Boxster left warranty coverage. Replacing the switch isn't a big deal - it just requires you to be a flexible acrobat - and I'm neither. Since it is a cold engine only problem I don't know if spraying it will help - and I'm not sure what product to buy to spray the key mechanism either. Is silicone spray lubricant the right product? Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
My stalk had been replaced, so the 'B' is not the part for me. My mechanic replaced the switch at my request; unfortunately it hasn't solved my problem. When cold, the key is difficult to turn; when the car has been running, the switch turns fully without difficulty. Any thoughts on cause and cure? I'd hate to replace the column again. Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
I still haven't found time to get the car in to swap the ignition switch, but had a question. When the engine is cold, the key is really hard to fully turn. After driving a while, if I stop, pull the key and put it back, it generally turns freely and starts. Is there something I can spray into the key slot to help? Is this a sign that the non-electrical portion of the switch is going? Thanksby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Given how dull our Halogen lights are, it's amazing that they can be even worse (assuming you have Halogen). I feel your pain driving at night with even further impaired lighting. Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Ditto. This is my question as well. I understood that the 2000 used the B part. This is the part I ordered (two). I sent an email to my mechanic, but haven't heard back. The ones I bought are black on the outside. Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Blackbird, that's for the reply. I know that I had the whole assembly replaced (after warranty and without the dealer asking ). This part states "Only for Models with an Original Lock Assembly, # 996 347 017 05 or # 996 347 017 06., Can also update to late style lock assembly with late type switch, # 996 347 017 07" Is that still a fit? I think my discussing it here has caused the car to deciby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Any comments on making sure I get the ‘right’ part via Amazon?by AndyInNYC - Main Forum
and is this a 'good enough' tiny screwdriver to throw in the console with the switch: Small Screwdriver set on Amazon My concern (in the top post) is that I'm going to need to make sure the part is 'right' because I'm not replacing the switch now - so when it breaks I'll have the part and can 'just do it' rather than potentially being stranded somewhere (which happened the very first time the sby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
I decided that it's probably a good idea to keep a spare ignition switch around for my 2000 Base. I believe the part number is 4A0 905 849 B Is there anything I need to pay attention to if I'm buying on on Amazon? Lots of different sellers @ different prices. I could also take a drive to my local Audi dealer - but that's not as convenient as opening the front door to a package. Thanks for youby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
My originals were on the car for 20 years. Replaced front and back with Boxi brand in 2020 Nov and Feb respectively.by AndyInNYC - Main Forum
Replacing the struts was the best and cheapest upgrade I can remember making.by AndyInNYC - Main Forum
are the 2003, 2004 the only years? The 2003 I got quoted looked as though it had been abandoned in a swamp since 2003. The car it was on had a tree growing through it. Andrewby AndyInNYC - Main Forum
