Euro Imports in Alexandria, owned and operated by Peter Mikon, address is 725 N Henry St, Alexandria, Va. 22314. Peter has been working on my '01 986 and my wife's '04 BMW 328 (with like 240,000 miles) for years, including replacing the engine in my Boxster. He always does excellent work, always is cheaper than other independent mechanics. If I replace my car with another German car I will eiby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
I'd like to have that Hudson Hornet you used to have.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
I suspected as much. I had an interesting conversation with a specialist mechanic who said that as a sports car, the 911 beats the Boxster, but as an overall driving maching or daily commuter, he'd take the Boxster. I have to say that my 986, with more than 140,000 miles on it it still comfortable on long trips, as well as fun for tearing around rural roads. I've also used it to commute to worby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
no profit for them either. Strikes me as possibly a good strategy for a company that is a unit in a large conglomerate and only wants a particular niche of customers. The rest of us can keep on buying used Porsches, which makes the company no money, or buy a new Miata and use the savings to pick up a motorcycle on the way home.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
I just saw the ad for the new MX-5, ex-Miata. I have to say its pretty nice looking. With Porsche moving its sports cars further upmarket and away from the basic sports car experience, I'm wondering whether they're going to start losing customers to this car. I know a lot of people on this board started with a Miata and moved up to Porsche Boxsters because in a lot of ways its a better car,by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
says it will be called the 718: . Personally, I don't care enough about the sound to want it to be enhanced audio or any of that other silly stuff. I do regret, however, that Porsche is not going with its original 718 idea for a stripped-down sports car free of nanny gadgets, blinking lights for that much-wished-for disco look and enhanced engine sound. The prospective 718 was the first timeby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Pity the poor 996, the red-headed stepchild of Porschedom. One apostasy after another; it's water-cooled, it doesn't have round headlights, from the firewall forward its identical to the 986, the not-quite real Porsche. You know what, the other day, I saw a silver 996 in profile in a shopping mall, and it has a pretty sharp-looking shape, very impressive, very sleek.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Was broken, now replaced, parts and labor seven something. As a bonus, a rattle that might have been a loose part on the catalytic converter has now disappeared.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Five thousand miles back. Oil is clean.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
He has the car now, but he checked the oil last week when I thought I needed an oil change and he said it was too clean to change, come back in a few months. I think he did pressure test it.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Thanks. He checked the tank carefully at the time and said he checked everything else and could not find a leak at all. I credit him on this because it was a very slow leak and in the past he's done outstanding work on both this car and an aging BMW we have as well, always finding the problem, always fixing it and ALWAYS undercharging us, including not charging at all for spending two days lookby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Could use any advice on this pending repair. For some time I have had a very slow coolant leak somewhere -- mechanic (who I trust) couldn't find it, but every once in a while the red light would flash and I'd fill the coolant tank. Yesterthe light started flashing but when I went to fill the tank, it poured out the bottom of the car, right side just in front of the rear wheels. Possible causesby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
This will be an unusual post for this board. The other day I saw the new Mustang in the flesh for the first time. I have to say I was impressed, at least with its looks. It was, to use two words not often applied to Mustangs, understated and elegant looking, at least relatively so. I had a Mustang GT before my 986, and can attest that the driving experience of the two cars is quite differenby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
This is an interesting video that, while a little gushy, provides some interesting information on the evolution of the Model T; the links among Ford, Cadillac and Dodge; the evolution of Henry Ford's factory; and the secondary ("knock-on") effects of the poplarity of automobiles. It also, incidentally, shows you how to drive one:by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
i did some research, other than this board, I mean, and was advised to go with the Plantronics Legend, not the newer Edge. Haven't done so yet, but probably will in coming months.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum

If, like me, you considerately take enough time to ponder your Christmas presents that you don't start shopping until, say, today, I find it's good to have a fast car like a Porsche to race around the moms at the mall to get that parking space that just opened up in front of them. I was able to do this with my previous car, a Mustang GT, but the superior handling provided by the Boxster's mid-enby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Has anyone else been following the specs on the new Mustang? For 16 years, I had a 1988 Mustang GT, just before I bought my Boxster. I realize a lot of people have had bad experiences with Fords, but it's hard to argue with 16 years. When I bought my used 986, the differences were what you'd expect -- I don't think the Porsche is faster, but it handles much better and the ride is, obviously, lby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum

I'm not crazy about the watch, but I like everything else about this ad for Chopard's Mille Miglia:by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
and I don't think he would have chosen a watch or anything else on the basis of a TV commercial, especially that one.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Right, I've seen those ads with the Breitling in the Blue Angels or some other acrobatic flying team. I can just imagine these guys flying at close to Mach 1, six inches from the next plane and trying to figure out what all the bezels and dials on a Brietling say.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
As many mnow, when things get slow on the board here, there is a running debate among those (like myself) who have blown too much money on watches over which brand of watch for guys who can't count -- Rolex with its rotating bezel or Omega with multiple dials -- is better. Personally, I have a Rolex Submariner so I can pretend to be James Bond, but I thought about the Omega Speedmaster Pro, whicby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
You know what? Screw 'em. When I'm ready to switch I'll either buy another used Boxster or a used 911 from a private seller and Porsche won't get any more of my money until they get their heads on right. Or maybe I'll buy a pearl white slab-sided Lincoln convertible and show everyone.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
