Roger, thanks. I'll try that in the morning.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Looks like there's no coolant in there at all. Not sure. No puddles under the car, though.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
If it's low do I need to fill it with special Porsche coolant or can I use regualr Exxon coolant or water?by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
This seems odd. I just started up my car and the coolant (temp) light started flashing red. It seems odd because it's been cold here and the temp gauge didn't shoot up as was the case in past cars with a coolant leak. I shut the engine off for a moment and started it up again, no problem. I left the car in the garage and expect to take it into the shop tomorrow, but anyone have any thoughts?by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
DOF?by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
What is Alfa thinking. Nice handling on that Camaro. My last car was an '88 Mustang GT and if it had handled that well, I'd still be driving American.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Some of you will remember that I had an engine die on my '01 base some years ago and, after a long wait and consultation with mechanics, I took the risky step last year and had a replacement engine put in. Many advised against it on obvious and solid grounds. I went ahead, though, having faith in Euro Imports, my Washington, D.C.-area independent mechanic. At the time he also did some other wby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
What is it with carmakers? I scanned the spec on the new, really nice-looking Alfa and no manual transmission. I know many prefer it, but why would a manufacturer trying to restore its reputation as a serious sports car maker not even include it. I have the same question with the new Jag. Even Corvette, I believe, makes automatic standard.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
I remember some discussion years ago that 986s should not be taken through a carwash. Is this still the accepted wisdom? Mine really needs a wash tomorrow and I don't feel like screwing around.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Hm, let me run that by the shop...by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Found out today from my mechanic that my engine replacement from a year ago was due to a valve failure, not an IMS failure, so I don't know that I qualify for the settlement. Guess I'm just screwed, stuck with a replacement engine that I got a good price on and seems to be working really well.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Heading back from the beach today, I see a distinctive grille a couple of hundred feet back and slow down to let it pass so I can get a better look. Sure enough, it was a gorgeous, fire engine red XKE convertible, guy driving, woman passenger. She gave me a "V" sign and a wave as they went by, I think we were the only two convetible sports cars on that stretch of road. I don't know XKEs well,by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
I love my Boxster. Best car ever, Wouldn't trade it for anything. Anyone who disagrees with me is a pantywaist who doesn't understand fine cars. Then I saw this 1961, racing green MGB down the block today.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
right hand at 9:00, left hand at 12, except for rush hout when I put one hand on top of the other, both at 7.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Walking home today, I saw a really nice 968 convertible parked on the side of the road. I'm not sure I'd ever seen one, or really paid attention if I had. I realize this is apostasy in some circles, but it's not a bad looking car. I'd like to see how it drives. On the same walk, I saw a lime-green Lamborghini convertible stopped at a light (sounded like a Honda, by the way). Now, this is Wasby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
All of this is true, of course. Likewise there's no harm in whining about how now that there is a suit some of us may have been screwed. I may have been, for all I know at this point. Neverthless. I was out several thousand dollars for an engine replacement (and I not only got a bargain, but got an engine replacement that so far has worked well) and assumed I'd never see any of it again. Which stipulations are you refering to?by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Just spoke with the attorney handling the case. The proposed settlement is wending its way through the legal process; potentially eligible 911 and Boxster owners should be hearing officially about the case within 90 days.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Do I understand the emails below to indicate that this class action suit -- which I think I qualify for, and I had to go through a costly engine replacement -- is still awaiting court approval? I can't make out from the link who to contact; alternatively, I don't know if they will contact me. Anyone have advice? Thanks.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
as you'll see here: . The new Jag got design award. I remember the XKE as the most beautiful car of the '60s and admire the earlier Jags as well. In my opinion, the new one doesn't look that hot from the outside, at least in pictures. The interior looks nice, though. It could do with a manual transmission if they want serious drivers, though. I'm wondering what the rumble is on the new Toyoby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum

I have to say, were I to make my next car purchase decision solely on the basis of car ads, it would be the Fiat Abarth.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
It was a nice couple of days, wasn't it. I got one day of top-down driving in before the cold hit again.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Was driving out to the suburbs today with the top down -- possible in January because of the fine work our friends in the fossil-fuel-burning industries have done to eliminate snow and other former impediments to a year-round tan -- and a car pulls up along side me and the guy shouts out wasn't I surprised to be able to do so today. I looked over and realized he was driving a really nice Maseratby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
One of the commenters on the M135 calls it ugly. I'm not crazy about it, but this raises an important point. Porsches are attractive cars, and for some of us, that's a factor. I love the looks of my 986, I like the 987 and 981 also. To be honest, one of the reasons I'd buy a 911 next if I could, is its looks. The main reason my car is appealing is that it drives so well, otherwise I would havby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
I just skimmed it, so I can't really say. I did notice that, while this was not the only criterion,, they noted that the BMW M135 was something like £10,000 cheaper than the Boxster. They also said the BMW provided the sort of driving experience sports-car lovers look for. I'd be interested in others' thoughts, particularly others who have driven the BMW car. We also have a BMW 3 series, andby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
I realize I may be the only guy in the solar system who finds these guys irritating, but I quickly thumbed through Top Gear's car of the year issue today. I was happy to see the Boxster, as opposed to the 991, listed as a finalist for sports car of the year, but was somewhat surprised to see the BMW M135 take the prize. Anyone have thoughts on this?
