It seems (knock on wood) my long Boxster saga may be over. For those of you following it, my replacement engine went into the car a few months ago after the engine died on I-95 and I waited for the indy I use here in DC to finish rebuilding other cars to get to me. There were a number of minor things that needed to be done after that -- sensors, fuel line clearings, etc. The only remaining proby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum

Good luck. My replacement engine in my 2001 seems to be holding up well a month or so after transplant. After various minor related fixes, I'm planning on two replacement front tires and hope that will be it for a while.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Here is an article from CNET on the new electric Tesla: . The driving experience may be what we are all looking at, in some form, in the future. I thought it sounded interesting, the business about braking would take some getting used to, although we all learned to drive without manual chokes, so change can be adapted to. Personally, I would really miss shifting, but I don't think there's a wby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum

Please keep us posted on your progress; I wouldn't mind a sub $25K '09 911 myself in the next year or two.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Plantronics seemed to have the best reviews on CNET and elsewhere, but even that's no good with the top down?by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum

Following my recent engine transplant, one of the very few remaining problems is that the radio doesn't work and that the clock works only intermittently. I'm taking it in to my guy this week for this and to have the wheels rebalanced. Does this sound like a fuse problem?by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
No, never, not once. But only because my wife will never let us drive by the mechanic who has this really great 964 for sale, and I mean, it's cheap. Really almost free, when you think about it.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
But this one looks really good in this picture. I'd definitely consider it.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Swell, if somewhat obsessive, article in the new Excellence on MOMO steering wheels. I had a MOMO Monte Carlo on my last car and would put a MOMO wheel on my 986 if it weren't for the airbag issue.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum

The cover of my fuse compartment, to the left of the pedals, is missing. Should I just go to the local Porsche dealer and get a replacement, or is there something special I should know or someplace else I should go? Thanks.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum

Has anyone seen the new Dodge Dart commercial? I think it's kind of funny. I learned to drive on a 1964 Dodge Dart, which was a great car if you had the performance package -- slant six and three on the tree.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
You emailed it to me and I was glad for the recommendation. Shops go up and down -- for years I recall everyone was in love with the service at Porsche of Arlington (including me) but no more. I'm a big fan of Peter's, but it's good to have another name.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
No idea. Peter Mikon, this mechanic I'm such a fan of, couldn't figure out what it was and had already thought of all of the things you suggested. He called a buddy of his who told him to tell me to put it through inspection again despite the reading on his diagnostic machine. I told him I'd come right back after if failed inspection. However, it passed with flying colors.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
I am pleased to report that I'm in the final stages of the adjustment to the transplant of an 80K replacement engine into my '01 base. All error codes have ceased and today the car passed inspection (emissions only in D.C.) and is now registered. The only remaining things to do are to get the tires rebalanced and replace a fuse or something that I need for the radio to work and the clock to worby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum

Following the major surgery to replace my engine, I can't seem to get rid of a secondary air system failure reading on my mechanic's OBD monitor-- which is preventing me from gettting the car inspected. Following replacement of the engine and related repairs, naturally, the OBD showed complete failure on all readings, but I have driven the car more than 200 miles, in all kinds of traffic, and evby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
For those following my saga, my engine transplant seems to be going well (80K engine into a 2001 base, engined died at 129K because of shattered shaft connected to one of the valves, I think, not the IMS). Misfires have cleared up, CEL code cleared now that O2 unit has been replaced, along with some plugs. Some vibration indicates the tires need to be rebalanced. Am driving it now to clear outby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Recovery from surgery continues for my '01 base which recently had an engine transplant. Misfires have apparently ended as the gunk from two years of sedentary life at the shop and from the original engine's malfunction have been cleared out. Residual check-engine signals were apparently due to a faulty 02 sensor, which has been replaced, along with spark plugs. My mechanic drove it around lasby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Thanks for the encouragement and -- above the window advice. My guy uses another additive Moly something (???) which he put in the tank last week, we'll see if that helps. Jackby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
A friend, who is not into cars at all, has just been given a '62 T-bird in what he calls "driveable" shape. I like this guy and I don't want to see him get burned. Does anyone know any resources in the Washington, D.C., area or elsewhere where he might go to find out how to either fix the car or sell it without getting ripped off? Thanks.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Engine transplanted into my '01 base is going through shakedown with no major problems. Drives well, stopped giving misfire readings as, I believe oil and stuff has been ejected from the system. I got a check engine light again inidicating a possible O2 sensor replacement issue, we'll see this week.
