High quality pics of the tires: Four 17" Michele Pilot PS2 high performance tires. I just purchased the rears, when my engine in my Porsche Boxster blew and sold my chassis to a dismantler!!! The rears are just three weeks old!! Look closely, and you can see the "hairs" still on the tires from the injection molding. The fronts are in really good condition... I purchased them early last year anby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Parts for Sale
Just sold my chassis to a dismantler for $3,000. I emailed them a description and pictures, then talked to them on the phone. Apparently, they pretty much pay a flat fee for these cars. He said he was buying about one a day with blown engines... maybe he was exaggerating or just a recent phenomenon, but that is what he said. I called around to some speed shops and Porsche indys and the most thby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
I really don't know what to do with it. Maybe I will call around to a few speed shops and see if they are interested. Ideas? Bruceby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
I used to work right near that dealership in the early'80s.... I went to grad school at Case Western and got my first job in Beechwood. I want a manual.... Too many years as a kid jammin' the air gears watching Saturday racing. I want a Chaparel! Even had a Chaprel slot car with a tilting wing.... wing was controlled by the torque changes in the electric motor rocking back and forth. Ok, now that the emotions have calmed down, the accountant in me came out and the decision is?........ buy a new used car. After my indy saw that I was now thinking a bit more rational, he said that putting another engine in the chassis was "insane". While I won't go that far, my logic is based on continued, long-term, only driver, ownership of whatever I own. I need something dependable. I broke a spring, so you can't just replace one, you have to do two... well given my high mileage at the time (don't remember when) I said do the shocks... then it became do all four because I am keeping the car forever (har har). Used Porsche springs and the Bilstein equivalent shocks. I wanted the same ride. Don't remember the model number, but supposedly, they are the same as OEM but a diffeby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
If you notice in my data, the biggest variance in computer calculated MPG is at the slowest average speeds (well sort of anyway). I suspect, but am not completely sure, that the computer's algorithm is recency based, in that what you were doing at the end of your trip has a bigger impact than what a true average was. Just a guess. Bruceby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
Very good points of course.... but, who drives in a scientifically controlled manner? My driving is as I drive and those were the results. While I would not bet a dime that any one of those line items in my chart was spot accurate, I do believe that the data is directionally correct in that faster average speeds, for the average Porsche driver, will yield the same results. I calculated MPG using the actual miles and gallons used as denoted on the pump when I filled - I did not use the computer's calculation of MPG. For AVG MPH, I used the on-board computer for this. I never fully understood how the on-board computer calculates average MPH, but really it was all I had to use. Now obviously, the higher average MPHs were primarily highway and lower MPHs were city aby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum

My limited info so far is as follows: 1 - LN and Jake Raby are "associated" but not the same company 2 - Raby's engine replacement for mine is virtually the same price as a Porsche new one - I would buy his before a Porsche new 3 - 911 swap difficulty depends on the year 911 engine. The easiest is the 2000 and 2001 engine are "easily" done with the same harness/DME and no re-flashing, althoughby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum

Just something that is on my mind at this point: I agree with you about the LN engine - put it this way, there is no way I would buy a new, flawed, Porsche engine.... no way. But..... and here is where I am really having an issue:. Do I want to put say close to $20K into a meticulously maintained chassis with 197K miles on it? Just a rumination. I have been reading about shaft failures, are they "real", estimates of percentages, internet forum effects on perception, etc etc etc for 12 year now, and tried to be an objective observer of my own emotions and then how I triggered or withheld my spend. A few things: 1 - I have now had two IMS failures. These are my very real, personal experiences 2 - I believe I made a mby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
Just to grab some data points, I stopped into my local Porsche dealer to see what used, CPO Porsches were going for. I asked an open question "What was the cheapest CPO Boxster S they had in their system?". It appears the CPO warranty is 100K miles (don't know the time limit) I got a few data points: 1 - '09 Boxster S, 29K miles, $44K, 2 - '07 Caymen S, 18K miles, $42K 3 - '11 Camen S, ??Kmby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
My Indy was pretty clear about it, he had one single row LN failure. I don't know how many my indy has done but he and one of his mechanics say they do them "pretty often" with clutch replacements. He called LN to discuss and they admitted they were having failures of this single row unit. They are currently working on another that involves something with "oil circulation" but won't be availabby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum

Ok, if I get a used engine: (my mechanic is not real comfortable with this idea as I think he worries about problems after his install) - Why not a 3.4? I understand that a 2000 or 20001 will go in fairly easily with no DME changes, same harness. Requires some work of course, fuel rails flipped, something in the transmission flipped.... still having trouble finding data except that these twoby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
Crap. I don't know what to do. Thanx all for your input, and Mike for your writeup. Here is what I know so far (please feel free to comment on each): 1 - I have an Indy I trust - ex-Porsche foreman at dealer, 20+ years on Porsches - does engine re-builds - His rents space for his shop out at Aquilante's Phoenix Performance (if you are into racing, you know who he is) so he has machinists, heaby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
Driving about 55 mph in traffic on rt 202 near West Chester...... miss, miss, threw in clutch, engine died and dash lit up. No warnings or overheating. I just checked the oil 1/2 hour prior. Won't really turn over but starter and engine make a wummm, wummm sound when I engage the starter - I am not sure the engine is turning. It has been using oil faster than before but not extreme. I just had a second set of front control arms replaced now at 196K miles on my 2000S. I think these things are the culprit of all kinds of odd gremlins. Their wear manifested in odd clunking particularly when driving slowly on undulating (not bouncing) surface. The latest was wheel vibration at 90 mph and then slowly the vibration would start at lower and lower speeds. Unfortunately, theseby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum

I posted this question a bunch of months ago but thought I would re-try. 2000 S, 196K miles. I am looking to replace a few banged up, black, interior trim pieces and possibly, my Savanna Beige driver's seat. The usual suspects, door compartment lids, center shift console, etc. I contacted a few dismantlers and they didn't have seats - didn't ask them about trim pieces. Porsche is not spec'ing bigger tires for performance, they do it because you demand fashion. When I ordered my 2000 S, it came with 17" but I could get 18" opiont and the chatter was how cool 18" looked. Well I looked... I looked up the prices and said FORGET IT! Do you want to drive an '01 Porsche Boxster? If so, then fix it. I had about 150K miles on my 2000S engine before the coils and water pump failed. I am all for fixing and keeping a car running... always believing that it is way cheaper to do this than buy a new or late model. I also don't find the newer models that compelling over what I have now. Good luck. Bruceby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum

I loved my Dunlops in that they were good in the snow, dry and wet but they wore quickly, when compared to the Pirellis and Blizzaks. The Pirellis were awful tires in that they didn't do what they are supposed to do... provide grip in the snow so I just hated them for that reason alone. They were also noisy and harsh riding. As they wore, they were not even that good in the dry as I could tby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
