Driving my 2000 S (189K on the chassis) all year on salty roads etc here in Philadelphia, my rattles were legend. The dealer would re-fasten them but in a year or so they would return. About 5(?) years ago, my indy, the ex-shop foreman at the Porsche dealer showed me one of the shields after I asked him to re-fasten them/it.... The shield was so shot, there was nothing to fasten anything to.by Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
I am burning up my winter Pirellies because I hate them so much. I just passed inspection with them but the rears were at the absolute minimum for passing PA. So now, at 62 degrees and nearly worn out, they are slippery as all heck. I can break the back away just excellerating hard in a turn. Really beyond squirlly. I thought these winter tires may be extra sticky given their softer compoundby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum

I kinda had the thoughts of Tony....... In a sick way, there is a part of me that was hoping my engine was toast so I could put a bigger engine in the thing. Not that I really want another failure, but just fantasy as I was worried that the coolant smell I had meant a big problem. I think what I would do would totaly hang on the cost of a replacement. Thought you may be interested in what failed PA inspection at 189K miles on my 2000 S: 1 - Side marker light corroded 2 - Horn (apperently one of two were not working) 3 - Front left control arm 4 - Coolant cap 5 - Collant pressure thingy under plastic colar under cap The car was smelling of coolant and was a bit low but did not trip the light yet. Are you looking for track gloves or the nice leather ones? I purchased a super thin buttery pair when I was in Florence/Rome 10 years ago and to be honest, they do nothing for me. Actually I feel kinda dumb wearing them. I even tried them on the track and frankly, get nothing from them. I did wear them on a few 13 hour drives and they do seem to releave a bit of fatigue in my hands but so whaby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
You seem sure it is the engine, but consider...... My heatshields rotted out and they would rattle shortly but would stop as soon as they heated up. The rattle got worse until it took about 30 sec to 1 mnt to stop.by Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
In lieu of a more specific responses here, get the highest quality speakers you can buy from a reputable, higher-end auido dealer and ask them for a recommendation. Check first the ohmage rating for the speakers in place and match that so the amp is not overloaded by your new speakers. The ohmage is usually painted/stamped on the magnet and usaully be 4, 8 or 16 in value. Higher numbers of theby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
I used to get spotting on the floor but haven't seen that for almost two years. I dunno..... I guess I should just consider this the charm of an older car.by Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
The higher the price, the better it is. Better here as a very definitive characteristic: what others percieve of you. This has nothing to do with the car's capabilities or qualities. Back in school, we were taught a lesson about consumer behaviour with cars.... I am sure I am botching the story as it was over 30 years ago that I heard it, but here goes.... Back when car companies, and our ecby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
When I got the car back, it consumed oil at a faster rate than it ever did before. Now after I added the heavy oil, maybe coincidental, it stopped. I have noticed, again maybe coincidental, that when I had 0W, I would get spotting on the floor and heavier stuff not. I am not worried about oil consumption per se, but I am concerned with variability. Consistancy is good, inconsistancy causes mby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
Back when I used to track my car, a few instructors said the Boxster was a better handling car. I drove my friends C4, circa 2007 and the handling was definitly different and on rough roads in turns, the front end bobbed. The car also felt much heavier although that could have been because of the 4 wheel system.by Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
2000 S, 188K chassis, 140K engine. I posted a few weeks ago that my car was using oil after an oil change particularly after some hour long, fast highway runs. I then added a bit more than a quart of Mobil 1 15-50 heavy oil and guess what? Consumption stopped. I noticed this a long time ago that my car consumed oil back when they started putting in that 0W stuff.... and I would get spotting oby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
Just gotta rant a bit. Took my wife's 2008 IS250 to the dealer for 30K service and got a call that the car requires new pads and roters. Also, they strongly suggest a fuel system cleaning. The car has 30K miles on it. They wanted about $800 for the pads and rotors. I didn't even ask about the fuel service. So I did some quick research and even called Lexus national.... get this: 1) Thereby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
Actually, for my wife's Lexus IS250. I forget the numbers, but the Lexus dealer wanted over $100 for each unit!!!!! I needed them because I have a second set of wheels and tires for winter. I got them from eBay for, again, I can't remember but I think about $40.00 - $50.00 for ALL FOUR. Then I went to a Toyota dealer, NOT a Lexus dealer, and they did the installation and programming for anby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
I find it fascinating that we humans desire sincerity, honesty, and "purity", but our commercial world provides almost none of this. Just look at our disgust with politicians. Let's be honest with ourselves, our Porsches are not pure sports cars. They are bigger, heavier, and built to targeted price points than what we wish they were: some fantasy of passioned engineers building their dream cby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum

The world is full of oil. The issue is not scarcity, but two: 1) political stability among the cheapest suppliers, and 2) diversity of cheap supply. There are many, many sources of oil in the world but they are not fully integrated into the world markets due the cost of production and distribution to the world's markets (the oceans). The reason the world buys Canadian, Mexican, Venezuelan, anby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
I have been topping it up now with a heavier Mobil 1 instead of the already present Valvoline. I really can't see how this will hurt the car... if I did, I wouldn't do it. If anyone knows differently, let me know please. But I really can't think of why there would be a problem. I asked my mechanic about this and he said there is no issue. So why does Porsche have this recommendation?by Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
All good feedback and questions. I also stopped into my Porsche indy, who I trust, who did a quick diagnosis. In short he didn't find anything wrong. He hooked up the computer and everything was extremely normal. He thought it may be the oil separator and he checked this by plugging his finger over the dipstick hole to feel vacuum and felt little or according to him, normal. I have about 140K miles on this "new"engine (about 187K miles on my 2000S chassis) and am noticing a slight increase in oil consumption. Any ideas as to why? - This engine used no more than 1 quart of oil between 15k oil changes over its 140K miles - usually just a half quart - Now it just used up 1.5 quarts at about 8K miles since last oil change and I see no spotting on my floor - I see no smby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
They pitch this thing as some sports sedan ala BMW....ha! Push the thing and the suspension gives way and all hell breaks loose. Just an awful experience. I don't fit in it, the A pillar blocks your forward view, there is no place on the center console to rest change or crap, the button layout still confuses the heck out of me, the leather on the steering wheel makes a loud sound as your slidby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum

Just 'cause I'm a geek, I asked for the old bearings and then took them apart. You need to run a solvent over the balls and races to remove the grease. All four bearings (maybe one was fine), two each repair, showed pitting. I think there are some words of art that better describe what I saw, but all showed some degradation.by Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
The noise was so odd that I didn't believe it was a bearing.... everyone said bad bearings are high pitched. My mechanic said to just replace the bad one but I had him replace the other side as well..... I did this because I have a long-term, drive-it-till-it-dies plan for my 2000S now at 186K miles. I don't remember the mileages, but I have now replaced the fronts and rear bearings. Odd,by Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
I just thought I would vent some frustration at the Porsche-recommended Pirelli winter tires I have on my car now for the 2nd season. They suck. We had some snow in Philly last week and I almost got stuck in my near-flat driveway. Total was maybe and inch or two max. I have complained about these things before...... sorry, just getting a bit emotional as I depend on my Porsche 2000 S as myby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum

First, using the material from a convertible top for luggage is just ...... odd. No comment beyond that. I have 185K miles on my 2000 S and the top is in really good shape! The window is a little scratched up and "browned" in the corner folds but still not too bad. The top has some minor abrasions but still looks just great. I do use a hardtop for the winter and always wash the top with deteby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
