My main concern would be reliability of a new design and low RPM torque. When pollution controls were first introduced it forced the manufacturers to eventually go to fuel injection and computer controlled engine management, but it took a few years for them to get it right. I suspect the ultimate solution to performance with very low fuel consumption will be the hybrid design similar to the 918by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
There seems to be an effort, organized or not, to encourage us to give up our sixes for a turbocharged four. This reminds me of the time when pollution controls were introduced and premium leaded gas became unavailable. This time around, we will not be forced to give up our cars or modify them due to fuel requirements. I had a BMW R90S motorcycle which I refused to modify and ran for years onby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum

I grew up in the era where information on sports cars was obtained through the car mags and some word of mouth. As they say, the internet has changed everything. The most cursory internet search will turn up the fact that Boxster engine replacement is not all that unusual, at least when compared to other sports cars. I suspect that has a lot to do with the rather large loss in value of Boxsterby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
The best news from my point of view is that it will be a 6 speed manual car. I could live with a manually operated top, but I have some lower back issues that make a very good adjustable seat a necessity for me. I have no problem at all keeping my current car.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum

My cable guide shows that Fox Sports will show the race from 7:30 to 3:00 CDT. I don't know if the actual race will be streaming on the link. I hope so.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
This is all very good news for the rest of us. This failure is not likely to occur again. I previously owned a BMW Z3 and there were well known wiring issues that occurred over time reported on several forums. I personally was very happy with the outcome here.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I'm liking my Boxster more each day I drive it. I may never sell it or trade it for a newer one.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
A very unusual failure mode. Most electronic modules fail completely for a variety of reasons. Intermittent failure is very rare. My money would be on a cold solder joint.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I hope the DME solves the problem, in which case I would guess it would be something like a connector in the DME. If it doesn't, a reasonable next step would be to replace the wiring harness, which I am sure would be a labor intensive process. I wouldn't trust the Porsche dealer to track down an intermittent failure in the wiring harness. They could send the old harness back to Germany for anaby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
Don't be too disappointed if the new DME doesn't solve the problem. In my career before retirement I spent over 40 years troubleshooting electronic hardware and software. I would guess the problem is more likely physical than electronic. Let me explain. The car has been functioning well for over 48K miles, in Texas, where it gets hot. I would imagine an electronic glitch would have occurredby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
Good question. According to a recent discussion you should be bleeding the clutch as well as the brakes. I would wonder about changing the transmission fluid and possibly the coolant, but I will let others with more expertise weigh in on that.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I don't think most Porsche owners recognize the fact that there are so many failure modes with the earlier engines, and Porsche wanted to minimize damage to its reputation. The difference in values of 2007-2008 Boxsters compared with 2009-2010 Boxters similarly equipped and with similar mileage doesn't in my estimation reflect the big improvement in reliability with the 987.2.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum

Your original post mentioned that you thought there might be uneven gaps in some body panels. That would be a major issue.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
Your main problem right now may be that the other driver's insurance may want to total your car rather than spend any money on body work. Good luck.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
Autoweek had a good piece.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I've found out recently through questions posted on the main forum there are areas not covered, or covered in error, in the owner's manual. Specifically, although the manual recommends a brake fluid change every two years, there is no mention of bleeding the clutch. Also, the manual recommends consulting the dealer in the event of "marked loss of coolant" without defining how much that might beby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Board suggestions
When I had my car in for the 4 year 40K mile service last week, I asked them to change the brake fluid. This is called out in the manual to be done every two years. This service had never been done, but I wasn't too concerned since it was an Arizona car and the climate is dry there. So, my question is that since the brake and clutch use the same reservoir, when I ask the dealer to change the bby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum

The dealer ordered a new cap. They didn't have one in stock. I should have it in a couple of days. I told the service advisor that I will not add any coolant, that they can do that themselves if the problem is not fixed. He said that would be helpful for documentation. I don't believe I need to wait for a warning light to come on. As soon as the level is significantly below the "MIN" indicby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I just got off the phone with the service advisor at the Porsche dealer. I suggested a new cap would be the place to start. They are going to cover the cost of the new cap and agreed that the issue should be tracked down. I have printed this discussion so I can leave a copy with the dealer. The warranty is good until April 28. Steveby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
The dealer service department checked the cooling system by pressurizing it to 16 psi and looking for residue. No problem was found. I may replace the cap, but it's no big deal to add half a quart of distilled water to the coolant every 5K miles. I'll certainly keep an eye on it. I'm about to join the ranks of the out of warranty drivers, but considering the lack of trouble reports on the 9A1by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
The really scary thing is that this car will be sold as a CPO to an unsuspecting customer.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I have the service records for my Boxster, and the battery was replaced in November 2011. The original in service date for the car was April 2010. I don't know the detailed history as to how often the car was driven, but it was kept in Scottsdale so there was no seasonal storage. If I can get a replacement for $100 to $150,I think I'll replace the battery before storing the car in 2015 just toby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
The most important missing question is "Would you drive a car with PDK?"by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
There are a couple of factors I didn't mention. When I got the car home from Arizona last May and added a bit more than a quart, I did not check the coolant level again after a week or so of driving, which I should have done. I just checked the level again this morning and was able to add another 50 cc to bring the level up to max. I had the engine at operating temp yesterday, enough to causeby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
